A cyborg drowning in emotions and an abducted Earth woman trying not to feel.
Abducted, enslaved, and constantly worried for her daughter, scientist Dr. Simone Li has had a rough few months. Now that she and her daughter, Grace, have been rescued by the fierce cyborgs of the House of Rone, she’s trying to make a life for them on the desert world of Carthago. Toren, a cyborg, is reeling from an influx of emotions. The only one who can calm him down is Simone, who has demons of her own. A fast-paced read with lots of action and romance. I really enjoyed this book.
When Toren, Cyborg for the House of Rone, is injured during a rescue mission, some of his systems and his emotional dampeners are damaged and he is unable to deal with all the emotions he’s feeling. Luckily, Simone, one of the humans that was recently rescued, is more than happy to help him however she can.
I absolutely love this series (and the House of Galen series) from Anna Hackett. The characters are amazing, the storylines are interesting and intriguing, and the smexy-times are sizzling hot. I hope they continue.
Read in KU.
Four and a half
Simone, Toren and of course the adorable Grace step into the spotlight in this latest story and its a wonderful read that adds so much to this series. If you want action alongside your hot romance then this story certainly delivers. I’m really enjoying the newest set of bad guys for these cyborgs to battle because they constantly surprise and do amazing things with technology. It’s also a joy to see these characters face their fears and realise just how strong together they can really be. Yes its exciting but it’s also edge of the seat at times but most of all this was a truly enjoyable read with characters to care about and who doesn’t want that ?
This voluntary take is of an advanced copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
Gripping Suspense, thrilling action, witty banter, fabulous character interaction, life-threatening incidents, emotional up and downs, sizzling romance, and a happy forever make “Paladin” an entertaining read.
Heroic cyborgs save Simone and her daughter Grace from the vicious Endull aliens. They are now safe living a free life in The House of Rone. Toren, a hot, powerful cyborg, suffered an injury during the rescue. Unfortunately, this injury has his emotions running wild. He also begins to have fiery desires for the beauty Simone which he does not understand. Simone has trust issues in the matter of the heart. Her daughter Grace is full of fun surprises. Toren and Simone face a few hurdles before reaching their happy forever.
Fun, well-written read with a great plot. Simone and Toren’s chemistry glows in this sci-fi story. Love Grace’s antics. The author does a fantastic job showing trust plays a huge part in love relationships. Finding this to be a gratifying read, I voluntarily reviewed a pre-release copy via the author.
Another wonderful book in the House of Rone series. Toren and Simone’s tale is one of learning to redefine your life and Ms. Hackett does a superb job of walking her characters to a new personal reality. Plenty of the action and steam that her books are known for make Palidin a must read on my shelf. Enjoy!
Feeling overwhelmed by emotions he didn’t want, Toren was angry and the Terran woman had him at edge making him feel worse. Without his weaponry he considered himself half cyborg but feeling sorry for himself was not going to help him. Simone’s ex had really done a number on her. Insecurities were dragging her down filling her with doubts and fear for her feelings toward Toren, but she needed to be strong and fight the terrific Edull. Action, adventure, strong emotions, danger, romance and passion. Love how the female characters were a force to reckon with fighting along the warriors with strength and valor. Terran women power! An interesting and entertaining story that I enjoyed.
Dr. Simone Li has been abducted, enslaved, and constantly worried for her daughter. Now they are both safe under the protection of the House of Rone but Simone still feels guilty. Toren, the once emotionless cyborg, was damaged during her rescue and now he cannot control his feelings. She is determined to help Toren work with his emotions while helping to bring down the Edull.
“Life is full of ups and downs, Toren. Challenges and triumphs. The struggle, being outside our comfort zone, that’s how we grow.”
I am so glad to jump back into this alien and cyborg filled world. I just love this series and I am sad to see it will be ending soon but I will reread it. Simone was a strong, smart, single parent of a daughter who likes to make bombs. I really liked her and Grace. Toren was the quiet, controlled cyborg but now he is emotional and out of control. He can’t control his feelings except when he is with Simone. She calms him and makes him realize emotions aren’t bad things.
“Emotions are messy. They don’t run in a straight, predictable line. You can’t have the highs without the lows.”
Together these two not only heal each other and find love but they fight the Edull and get valuable information. It’s just a matter of time before they are taken down and all the humans are safe.
Overall, I loved this addition to the story and I can’t wait for the next one. I need to see grumpy Maxon fall in love. Oh and I also love seeing how great Toren was with Grace. It was so sweet I couldn’t get enough of it.
I just can’t get enough of Ms Hackett’s amazing books! This is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone. There is so much exciting action, suspense, humor, romance, aliens, cyborgs, romance, and humans that don’t give up! The main characters get their HEA, but the major story arc is far from over!
I loved this book. It was a great escape for me. The world-building is so inventive and well done. Toren and Simone’s story is full of heart and action. Her precocious daughter brought a smile to my face often. I received an advanced copy of this book and freely leave this honest review.
4 Stars
Toren is a cyborg from the House of Rone. He was recently taken prisoner by the Edull, and they ripped out a lot of his emotional dampeners. They also damaged his cyborg parts, and he’s having a hard time figuring out what his worth is, since he’s temporarily banned from fighting, and he’s missing parts of himself. Simone was also being held as a prisoner of the Edull, and she and her daughter, Grace, are trying to figure out their new normal.
Something about Simone helps to calm Toren. He is totally unused to feeling anything, much less the emotional onslaught that is hitting him right now. Being with Simone calms him. Simone somehow teaches him to use those emotions and to channel them. He uses them when he needs them in a fight, and he channels them when in danger.
Simone and Toren are sent on a dangerous mission. They are supposed to only observe, but when the chance comes to get closer to where they need to be to help rescue another human, they jump at the chance—which naturally puts them in danger. While each story in this series is unique, certain aspects of the stories are getting somewhat predictable. Regardless, they are still a creative escape from the mundane. Ms. Hackett has an incredible imagination and does a fantastic job at world-building. The reader remains invested in making sure these cyborgs from the House of Rone all find happiness, and in making sure the Edull’s fall—although that story is still to come!
Another stellar story with House of Rone!
What a wild ride this is! Edge of your seat action throughout. Simone is the perfect person to help Toren get a grip on his newfound emotions. Well, at least, she helps him exercise them . Simone is one more courageous and resolute woman ready and willing to take on the evil Edull. I know you’re going to love watching Simone and Toren and their crazy escapades. The best part? They fall deeply in love! Enjoy!
And boom just like that she’s done it again. Hot, hunky cyborg meets human girl and let the shenanigans begin. Add in the evil dudes, bots that aren’t so very friendly oh oh oh and those Gladiators from books of old (yum yum bubblegum), well not old but previous books in the series. Realistically you can read it on it’s own but to get the whole picture you really need to read the previous books. Great job Anna but then I’m always saying that.
