I thoroughly enjoyed this light-hearted story about an unlikely pairing. Great writing and an amusing plot. I wasn’t ready for it to end!

I had the privilege of reading an advanced copy of Mary Ann Tippett’s Pairs with Pinot and it’s an adorable RomCom with a fun edge. Interesting characters with depth and bright moments that resonate with real life, Tippet takes us on an engaging journey with Faith and Brian as they navigate dating (and life) in the 21st century. What makes it even better: the original way the narrative is weaved from beginning to end that doesn’t feel like a formula. This one will stick with you and keep you smiling.

Does everyone have a perfect soulmate out there, whom they just need to find? And can a dating app really match you up with the right person, based purely on your answers to a series of personal questions?
These are the question explored in Mary Ann Tippet’s latest book, Pairs with Pinot. We follow the story of a young woman named Faith as she struggles to find a career in the wine industry, with the threat of homelessness hanging over her. The narrative switches between the paths of Faith and Brian, a more reserved and analytical journalist.
Faith is easy for the reader to like and root for, her natural enthusiasm only occasionally dampened by the challenges she faces. Effectively an orphan, she lives with her grandmother, who is somewhat harsh despite her underlying affection for Faith. Faith faces an ultimatum to move out and find her own place – a difficult task unless she first finds a better paid job, ideally working with wine – but is given extra time on condition she tries out a new dating app called SoulMates.
Brian, meanwhile, needs to use the app for different reasons. He is in a relationship, albeit an imperfect one, but is asked to write a story exposing the ineffectiveness of the SoulMates app. At the start of the book his rather taciturn and factual nature (and his near-obsession with Pinot Noir) make him harder for the reader to immediately warm to, and one’s feelings towards him are given the opportunity to evolve over the course of the story.
The SoulMates app brings the two characters together, but the course of true love never did run smooth, and despite initial attraction, several factors result in the couple leaving their first date without any certainty of a lasting relationship. Will their differing feelings about animals and Pinot prove to be a lasting barrier between them? Well, that would be telling… 🙂
For anyone in search of a light-hearted and playful romance, I highly recommend this book. The characters and scenes are sharply drawn and very relatable for almost any reader, and it’s an enjoyable read from start to finish. The style, which weaves in the character’s answers to the SoulMates questionnaire, is a nice innovation, and can be thought-provoking in places too. My only criticism, as with the author’s excellent previous work (Clara and Pig), is that I would have enjoyed even more of it!

Pairs with Pinot is a romantic comedy that is a fun and interesting story about two individuals who find love through a dating app. The characters are relatable, and one finds oneself caught up in their love story. The author is witty in her descriptions, and she does a great job weaving humor throughout the story. Additionally, the author has a unique way of letting the reader get to know the main characters. She uses the responses of the characters on a dating app interview to reveal their backgrounds, passions, likes and dislikes. This style of writing keeps one intrigued throughout the story, and the depth of their personalities gives a rich foundation to understanding them. I loved the author’s acknowledgement in the beginning of the story that the dating application questions were derived from an actual psychological research study that focused on the interconnectedness of relationships and intimacy. This information adds another layer of authenticity to the story. This book is recommended to anyone looking to get swept away by a modern day love story that will captivate the reader from start to finish.

An enjoyable and easy read. Brian and Faith are two fractured people in a busy, modern world. Get comfy (with or without pinot) and let yourself get lost in their will they / won’t they romance. I finished it in two sittings.

Very unique style of writing.
I loved the innovative route this author took in creating this book. An unlikely pair falling in love, is the type of classic story that never gets old. This book was a great read with desctiptive elements that can be relatable to anyone.

This is only the second romantic comedy I’ve read, and the first one was not funny. I’d like to thank the author for providing the laughs in this sweet mix of comedy and romance. Faith and Brian were great and I laughed from her indecision on the first page all the way through. Great book.
I received an advanced reader copy from the author for an honest review that I am voluntarily leaving.

I had the opportunity to read “Pairs With Pinot” before its publication date – it was such a lovely read! Everyone enjoys a good love story with some comedy in it, right? This one has all the elements. While reading it I could picture every scene, as if I was watching a romcom movie. I loved the part when they first met… the way the thought process of both characters is described is so good and funny! I also really liked how the importance of small details that are given throughout the story end up making so much sense by the end. Looking forward to the next book in this series!

This book is a delight! I was lucky to have the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this romcom, and it does not disappoint. Faith and Brian are a modern day couple easy to relate to, and love.
Their story is not predictable, which makes the book even more of a page-turner! The characters are well-developed and you’ll find yourself laughing out loud at some of the scenes. Very entertaining and realistic plot. And, of course, it has a happily-ever-after, which is a must for any romance in my opinion!
