Dear Isaiah,Eight months ago, you were just a soldier about to be deployed and I was just a waitress, sneaking you a free pancake and hoping you wouldn’t notice that my gaze was lingering a little too long. But you did notice. We spent one life-changing week together before you left, and we said goodbye on day eight, exchanging addresses at the last minute.I saved every letter you wrote me, your … saved every letter you wrote me, your words quickly becoming my religion.
But you went radio silent on me months ago, and then you had the audacity to walk into my diner yesterday and act like you’d never seen me in your life.
To think … I almost loved you and your beautifully complicated soul.
Almost.
Whatever your reason is—I hope it’s a good one.
Maritza the Waitress
PS – I hate you, and this time … I mean it.

Isaiah is in the military about to be deployed, he meets Maritza as a waitress in a diner. The two hit it off and are good friends wishing for more. The couple sends letters to each other while Isaiah is gone. I loved the slow burn romance and sweetness of this story. An awesome read!
I received an arc and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This book gave me all the heart flutters, punched me in the feel repeatedly and I couldn’t put it down. Loved it so hard.
And now I am a fan! I had never heard of Winter Renshaw before. I picked this book because of the P.S. since I am a HUGE fan of books with letters, emails or text messages in them. I had no clue that it was going to make me skip my lunch! YEP!!! THAT”S RIGHT! This book had my stomach in such knots that I could not make myself eat my lunch. I cried. I freaked out. I wanted to throw my kindle. Winter really took me for a ride with this one! The story is of a guy that doesn’t want to commit to a woman, who pushes herself in as his friend. They spend time together and then keep in touch, as friends, when he is overseas! If there was a way to give this book more than 5 stars I would! I loved it all! And I am quite excited to get into another book from Winter Renshaw. I think I may have just found myself another one-click author!
Winter Renshaw is a must read author for me and when i read the synopsis for P.S I hate you i just knew this would be one of her books i couldn’t not read. I was not disappointed at all absolutely loved this story.
Wow was Isaiah was a very confusing and tough character, sometimes you just didn’t know what he was thinking or what he was going to do next and i was so glad this was a dual POV because we got to see his side. He was going to be a tough shell to crack and the fact that something terrible to happen made rethink his live really put in to perspective that you really need to live like this day could be your last. I haven’t read many military books, but i give it to any person who would sign up for the army very brave people.
Maratiz now she was a feisty character, who never gave up, was stubborn, was full of live, did everything with a smile on her face and she was a character that i loved. I really loved how honest she was and even if she thought it wasn’t the right thing to say she would say it anyway, what did she have to lose and i loved that about her. In ways she was lost and didn’t know what she wanted to do but didn’t push herself into something she wasn’t going to be happy with. I loved her determination and she would not let anything get in her way when coming to Isaiah, but he came between them and this would be the only time you could feel the loss and disappointment coming off the pages.
I loved this story, i laughed i cried, it was emotional in a few parts and my heart broke a little. I loved these two characters and i loved the hidden romance in parts and i loved the story and this book was written perfectly loved every bit.
Massive 5 Stars from me
I love books that have written correspondence back and forth between characters. The anticipation of reading the response once a letter is sent brings butterflies to my stomach. This book did not disappoint. This is a book about a waitress who gets to know one of her patrons for 9-days before he is deployed to Afghanistan. At the last minute, they exchange addresses and agree to write back and forth “just as friends”. As their friendship progresses through letters, Isaiah goes silent, leaving Maritza wondering why. Months go by without a word from him.
This is an endearing story about a couple who don’t want to recognize, or put a label on what is truly developing between them. Once communication ceases, Maritza denies what her heart really is feeling towards Isaiah. Will, Maritza and Isaiah be just a fling. or will they reconnect?
Well written story. Kept me engaged the entire time.
P.S. I Hate You is a cute, sexy read. Coming from Winter, I expected something darker, but thankfully, it stayed mostly on the light side. Oh sure, it’s got some angsty moments, but nothing OTT or ridiculous. And of course it’s sexy with interesting characters.
Maritza is the granddaughter of a true Hollywood legend who’s living her life but not knowing where she wants her life to go, when she meets a soldier at the diner where she waitresses. He’s a grumpy patron, not liking the diner’s rule of ONE PANCAKE PER PATRON – NO EXCEPTIONS, so Maritza makes an exception, sorta, and gets him his two pancakes and he ends up leaving her with a bad impression of him but a $100 tip. When she turns out to be the ditzy girl who runs into his car at a stoplight and she has to drive him home after his car won’t start, they somehow make a connection of sorts. Maritza is the lighthearted, sweetness to his broody darkness, and they end up spending a week of Saturdays together doing touristy LA stuff before he deploys again. Of course feelings are somehow developed, and they end up writing each other while he’s overseas, until she stops hearing from him and she tries to get over him.
Of course things are never simple in the land of love, and Maritza and Isaiah do eventually make their way to an HEA. I was hoping for a more definitive epilogue, but I like that they ended up happily together. I will say that Isaiah was a bit prickly for most of the story, and I perhaps wanted to smack him a few times. Maritza was sweet, but a tad annoying at times, but mostly likable. But generally speaking, I liked them together and found P.S. I Hate You to be sexy and entertaining.
I enjoyed this light, easy read. The story has drama, humor, friendship and romance. Maritza is a spunky and sassy character that is easy to like, Isaiah is quiet, strong and intriguing. It has a different and interesting plot that is well written. This is the first book I’ve read from this author and now I will look forward to reading more from her. I received this book as a gift and voluntarily give this review.
4 stars
This was my first book by Winter Renshaw and I found it so cute. As I didn’t know her, I didn’t know what to expect, but I loved the cover and the synopsis and wanted to get to know her work. I’m glad I did it. She has a light, and fluid writing that is very nice to read. The story had a drama, a pinch of comedy and a it was a gradual romance that make us end up wanting a love like that.
Isaiah and Maritza didn’t like each other at first sight. She is very cheerful and ready to make new friends. He is more closed. In a week Isaiah would return to Afghanistan. So to pass the time Maritza proposes that they live a week of Saturdays. That’s it, like all these remaining seven days were Saturday: days of sightseeing, of having fun, knowing each other. What starts with a distraction becomes friendship. But with Isaiah leaving what will happen with their relationship?
Because it was a military book and the synopsis was a letter, I thought the characters might spend more time apart than together. However the author knew how to dose the scenes, between their time together and separated, without making it dull. To tell the truth, the beginning of the book surprised me because you can feel their connection even if it is only a week.
I just felt that a character didn’t have a proper ending. To tell you the truth, it seemed to me that he didn’t make much difference in the story. But the story of the main couple is beautiful! I totally worth it.
My first read of Winter Renshaw left a beautiful impression. I’ll certainly read more of her work. I highly recommend it.
Maritza Claiborne is a waitress at Brentwood Pancake and Coffee; one day while slinging pancakes, Corporal Isaiah Torres takes a seat in her section…and he’s so rude. Their first meeting is nothing worthy of a repeat, but when Maritza runs into Isaiah later they find the smallest bit of common ground and end up spending the rest of Isaiah’s leave together.
Maritza is very bubbly. She’s a positive girl who’s embracing new experiences and enjoying being single in LA. She has not intentions of dating Isaiah and is keen to spend a week exploring LA with him. She definitely seems a bit too happy for Isaiah, he’s much more quiet and broody seeming. But somehow their newfound friendship works.
Isaiah is definitely not looking for a relationship, he’s shipping off to Afghanistan again in 9 days so a bit of easy, fun, touristy time spent with Maritza the waitress seems like the perfect way to run out the clock on his leave time. He’s so adamant about not wanting anything more with Maritza it’s almost detrimental to their friendship at times.
I liked both Maritza and Isaiah, though he was definitely a bit difficult at times, they were still an enjoyable couple to read about. Near the end of this book things get…interesting. I would have liked a bit more foreshadowing about what was coming. I felt like it was a little bit out of left field and also it gets resolved rather quickly and neatly. Once I was on board with this twist I thought, for sure, I was in for some major drama but then it just sort of fizzles out.
**I have voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book
8 years in the army to reach the rank of Corporal? Even with all those deployments? That was my first thought. A bit of a juvenile writing style. Didn’t fall for any of the characters.
It’s awesome
I picked this book because of its quirky title and read it because it was a wonderful story. Isaiah and Maritza are brought together by coincidence (twice) after which they decide to spend a week of Saturdays before Isaiah deploys for eight months. While he is away, they agree to write paper letters only. Then, there is nothing. Maritza decides she needs to get out more, but still can’t seem to move on. When Isaiah walks into her diner and barely acknowledges her, she changes over to anger. I enjoyed the start of the book, which built solid character stories, and if I had one minor annoyance, it would be that once they found each other again, it seemed a little rushed. All in all, a good enjoyable read.
I am so glad I had the opportunity to read and review this book!
I am an Army vet and my husband is too, so this story struck a chord with me.
PS I Hate you is the story of Isaiah and Maritza, a chance meeting, a brief time together and the letters, oh the letters.
I loved Maritza’s spunk! I embraced the fact that even though she is the granddaughter of Hollywood royalty she still works, pays rent and leads a “normal” life. She is grounded and still full of life!
Isaiah, oh how I could see so much of my husband in him, which of course made me love him more. He tries so hard to be an island unto himself but realizes, almost too late, that he needs Maritza to be part of his world.
This was a story full of fun, friendship turned love, angst, smexy times. Everything a great story needs!
Winter has definitely made a new fan with me! I will be the newest fangirl in her world! I cannot wait to read what she has coming out next!
It was another fantastic read from one of my favorite author Winter Renshaw. The way she wrote P.S. I Hate You, it will make you smile, swoon, it’s a feel-good story with a twist towards the end you’ll either love it or hate it? When well-written characters and unique plotlines are combined you’ve got yourself a good book. I devoured this in one sitting. I just can’t put it down. If you haven’t read a book by this author, I greatly recommend this one. Happy reading!
I may be in the minority with my rating for this book and I’m actually surprised I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I thought I would. This is honestly the first book that I’ve read from this author that I didn’t enjoy. I didn’t connect with the main characters in any type of way and I didn’t feel any type of connection between Isaiah and Maritza. A friendship between the two characters didn’t even seem believable to me. However, I did enjoy Isiah’s mom and his sister Calista, but even with that if I can’t connect with the main characters or the story there’s no way to really enjoy it. The flow of the story was also slower than I expected. I’m really disappointed because I honestly expected to loved this story and it just wasn’t the story for me.
