P.A.W.S. by Debbie Manber Kupfer a five-star read that will whisk you away. This is the first novel in the P.A.W.S. Saga and if you like a paranormal YA story then you won’t go wrong with this one, it has a little something for everyone. Miri is a great character and one that will take you along with her on her journey. What a journey that it is, after a life of secrets and reveals she will wow you with her strength. After loosing her Omama she could just give up, but she doesn’t, the silver charm keeps her stronger than she can imagine in more ways than she can imagine as well. All I can say is bring on number two, I needs more Partnership in my life.
P.A.W.S is the first book in the P.A.W.S Saga series by Debbie Manber Kupfer. It follows Miri as she learns the secret of the silver cat charm given to her by her omama, and which thrusts her into a secret world she never knew existed. She learns secrets about her family history – some good and some bad, meets many new friends, and learns to trust herself and her power.
This is a different take on shifters and their origins – this and their schooling reminds me some of the Harry Potter series. The bad guy has no redeeming qualities at all, and he deserves what happens to him, though I find it hard to believe that it would happen the way it did. All the characters were well-rounded and have their own histories.
I’ve been listening to a lot of audio books recently, and I think this performance by Priscilla Finch could have been better. Because there wasn’t really any change in tone, dialect or expression to indicate the different characters, it was sometimes hard to determine who was speaking. This is definitely a young-adult book. It contains themes sympathetic to those in the teen years and nothing risqué or that would cause nightmares. I left those years behind a long time ago, so I didn’t really connect with the characters as much as I think I would have back then. As such, I don’t recommend this for adults, but I think that YA age range would like it.
**** SPOILER ALERT ****
AUDIBLE EDITION:
“P.A.W.S.: ( The P.A.W.S. Saga Book 1 )” is my introduction to Kupfer’s writing. I’m really glad of it. The author richly builds the world of P.A.W.S. and develops the characters of the P.A.W.S. world.. I thoroughly enjoyed this entertaining book. The story of how Miri comes to terms with her inheritance and her parents is fascinating.
Q: Will Miri find out what her gift is and how to control it?
A: Grab this page turner, read it, and find out!
Above is my review of the actual book, below is my review of the narrator and audio production of the Audible version of the book.
Ms.Finch does a superb job of bringing Miri and the rest of the P.A.W.S. characters to life. For the most part, Ms. Finch’s audio production work is top notch.
I look forward to hearing more of her narration in future.
I would recommend this book, in whatever format that you prefer.
In the interest of transparency: I was given a review copy of this book and I am voluntarily sharing this review.
It is my own honest opinion.
Interesting read. Miri, alone after the passing of her grandma, discovers she possesses certain secret powers and a mysterious history she was never told. On her journey, she makes some new likeminded friends from P.A.W.S., Partnership for Animagi, Werewolves, and Shapeshifters, who will help her along the way. Get ready for an exciting, dangerous, and supernatural journey with P.A.W.S.
This story is a paranormal, urban fantasy, which I don’t read a lot. I enjoyed the story, although the storyline was predictable and some subplots were underdeveloped. I would have preferred if Miri, the main protagonist had been a bit more sceptical of the PAWS community. Nevertheless, I liked the character of Miri and the other characters were well-developed. If you like YA, this is for you.
P.A.W.S. by Debbie Manber Kupfer is an excellent little book. A good book for a young adult to read. It’s about belonging about finding your tribe. Mary spends many years as the odd man out. When she enters a new world and finds her people she finally learns what family is all about. Great story, with great characters. I think I will be remembering this author because I want a little more.
P. A.W.S is the first novel in the P.A.W.S series by Debbie Manber Kupfer. This is my first novel by this author.
Miri is sent to live at a St. Louis boarding school with her aunt after her grandmother passed away.
She discovers she has power after being bullied and befriends other people like her.
This gave me a Harry Potter feel and I was curious how we see her with her Aunt when it the beginning we see her with her parents.
This was a fun read and I just love the cover. I can’t wait for the next book and to see what the cover looks like.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. The plot was amazing, so many twists and turns I wasn’t expecting. The supernatural aspects were incredible, not overdone like many fantasy novels can be, it had just the right amount of supernatural to the natural world. The characters were really well written, complex and had a lot of depth. The settings were descriptive, really painting a picture in my mind, making me believe I was there. The aspects of history were incredible, and really elevated the entire novel. I can’t wait to read it again and to see what comes next.
P.A.W.S. (The P.A.W.S. Saga, Book 1) by Debbie Manber Kupfer
5-stars
P.A.W.S. (The P.A.W.S. Saga, Book 1) by Debbie Manber Kupfer was an excellent YA /Fantasy novel. I could not put this book down. Kupfer does a magnificent job at the start opening with Omamma and her death. I was hooked right away. Miri was so young at the time but as time went on, she learned about her secret. I loved her ability, which I will not say. This book was amazing and it kept me interested. There were so many interesting characters with special abilities! I can’t wait to see what comes next.
I also really enjoyed how organized this book was and how the author was able to distinguish between characters speaking. There was also a good amount of descriptive scenery that I had no issues visualizing as I read. There was great plot and climax, too. I highly recommend this book!
4 Stars
P.A.W.S is the first book in the P.A.W.S Saga series by Debbie Manber Kupfer. It is a wonderful YA paranormal fantasy, with shapeshifters, werewolves, secrets, magic, adventure, danger, violence, drama, and a sprinkle of romance. This is a journey of self-discovery, finding where you belong, friendship, and more.
This is my first read from Debbie Manber Kupfer- and I am happy I stumbled on this cute story. There was a lot to love about the book. It does have a bit of a Harry Potter-esque feel to the story, and like Harry our MC is a bit of a lonely misfit- until she finds where she ‘belongs’.
Miri’s life turns upside down when her grandmother dies, and she is shipped off to boarding school. But little does she know that this will be the start of a great adventure. From being a bit of an outcast, Miri discovers the ‘family secret’ and begins her journey to her true self. But danger is stalking her with sinister intent. What happens from here, makes for a captivating read.
Now- on to Book #2!
Thank you, Debbie Manber Kupfer!
P.A.W.S. by Debbie Manber Kupfer is the first book in the The P.A.W.S. Saga. This is an entertaining book with interesting characters.
So I would definitely say this book is ideal for younger readers. I do enjoy reading young adult stories although I did find this one was probably my limit on how far I would go down. That being said for anytime that likes this genre it is definitely a book worth reading.
The story was interesting and varied. I liked that different lore was combined in the book to create an in-depth world. The characters were fun to read about – the bad and the good. The range of personalities, and their links to their animal shapes, was done well.
This is was a great book and one I enjoyed.
P.A.W.S (The P.A.W.S Saga book 1) by Debbie Manber Kupfer follows the story of Miri, who after tragically losing her beloved grandmother is passed a priceless heirloom that allows her to become part of a supernatural community that she had never dreamed of. Miri joins P.A.W.S and meets others like her. During this time there is a malevolent being out to get her and steal what is hers. This book was a nice introduction into this world and was very different from any other supernatural books I have read. Hoping that book 2 gives more insight as the characters grow and mature.
P.A.W.S. (The P.A.W.S. Saga Book 1) by Debbie Manber Kupfer. A different kind a shifter story, I was really intrigued at the start of the book you meet Celia. Celia and family are hiding in the back room of there house in Vienna, when the Gestapo Soldiers came, Celia watched as her family was herded out of the door. The story then jumps to Miriam’s (Miri) point of view. The story of Miri is a sad tale to start, her mother gave her to her Omama (Celia) to raise up till she was ten when tragically Celia dies but leaves Miri a parting gift, a gift Miri doesn’t realise will help her later in life. I don’t want to give too much away but I absolutely loved this story. Debbie created multiple plots throughout this story that all tie together in the end. Such a good read would highly recommend.
A young girl Miri is forcibly moved to a boarding school by her selfish uncle and aunt, after her grand mother passes away. The only piece of legacy left with her is a silver amulet with a cat pendant given to her by her grandmother on her 10th birthday. Miri is unable to adjust in the new school and is constantly tormented by other girls until one day, she finds a special power that she can shape shift into a Cat.
She is then taken in by an organization called P.A.W.S which serves as a safe haven and training center for shape shifters, were wolves and other animagi. Miri finally finds solace in her new home, but danger is lurking around a corner.
There is a monster at loose, hunting for her. He seeks her amulet. There is evil at work. Will Miri be able to overcome the threat or not is the crux of this coming-of-age fantasy novel.
I loved the plot and the characters. Though all the magic in the book is something we have already read before, the plot itself offers a fresh take on the characters. P.A.W.S is lively and full of characters who are very enjoyable to read.
The only thing I felt was the climax was too quick. The book has a very predictable ending, no surprises there, but the encounter between the good and evil should have been elaborated a little further. I felt even the romance between the characters was also too quick and a little imposed upon. It did not feel very natural.
Otherwise, I thoroughly enjoyed the book. I am not sure if it can be recommended to children as there are some gruesome scenes. But as adults or young adults, it’s a breezy read. A fantasy book, nicely written, clean and neat.
P.A.W.S (The P.A.W.S saga book 1) by Debbie Manber Kupfer is a 3 star read.
Miri has lived with her grandmother since she was a baby, on her birthday she’s given a special cat charm just before her grandmother dies. When her aunt she’s never met shows up to take her to live with her and her uncle but they don’t want children so they send her off to a boarding school, where her life isn’t as happy as she would hope. Things get even stranger when she meets Josh who explains her heritage, but there’s danger on the horizon, can Miri keep herself and her new friends safe?
I wasn’t entirely sure about this book to start with but once I got a few chapters in it wasn’t so bad.
This was a great book, for older teens. Some parts were a little bit graphic for the ages recommended. I however loved this book and will be getting the rest of the series! Miri is a great character to follow. All of the characters are well written and they have back stories, they don’t just pop out of nowhere. I can’t wait to read the rest of these books if they have my attention like this one.
What an interesting adventure. This was a story I wasn’t expecting and didn’t know what to expect. This new to me author has a very unique voice and delivered a fresh new introduction to a genre for me. I really doubt this story to be interesting and look forward to seeing how the series continues.
Miri is discovering her families secret after her granmother has passed away. She is then sent to boarding school where she meets other shape shifters. This is a Harry Potter inspired book and you can tell from some of the lore this is a good book for young adults or those who have not read shape-shifting before. Alistair infuriates me he’s a bully he’s not someone you want to cross. . Nora has been minipulated . Miri and Josh are two of my favorite characters they are beautifully written. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series to see where this adverture goes.
This is my first book by this author, I enjoyed it from beginning to end. I will be looking for more from this author for sure. This is a well developed story that has characters that bring the story to life. They are connectable and made the story engaging for me. I was pulled into the story right from the beginning. Miri receives a silver cat charm that holds more power than she realizes and is about to make her life a little more interesting. This is a paranormal story where you will meet new friends including werewolves and shapeshifters. I highly recommend this book, will Miri learn to control her power?
