Overture is the first book of the North Security series. The beginning of Liam and Samantha’s story,
Liam wasn’t ready for what life had planned for him, he wasn’t ready to care for someone. He only knew about training and combat, but life was about to change everything he ever knew, bringing feelings and emotions that only her the beautiful Samantha will evoke in him.
“I was nothing when you came to me. A man with a death wish. A business that kept me from drinking myself into a stupor every night. When you came to me, it gave me something to live for. Something to believe in”
She was shy and elegant, a prodigy and a master of classical music. she knew how to play, how to perform but she didn’t know how to make him stay how to make him care for her. She didn’t know how to teach him how to love.
“How am I supposed to be interested in the boys who are dancing in clubs when this man has kissed me? How can I be Satisfied with warmth when I know how it feels to burn”
Their past is what brought them together, their future is what threatens to break them apart. Now it’s up to Samantha to save the only thing that keeps them tide..
“There is someone I’m interested in, but it’s wholly inappropriate. Wrong on every level. Completely forbidden. I barely even let myself think it, but Liam is the only person that comes to mind when I dream about kissing or sex.”
Liam is cold, Dominant and commanding. everybody thought he wasn’t capable of loving or caring until her, the only woman who can make him love again and the only woman he can’t have.
“You Look like the most perfect woman I’ve ever seen. But I don’t think it’s the dress. It’s you”
Another amazing sexy and super hot story by Skye Warren, so in love with her writing and characters.
I can’t wait to see what happens in Concerto.
I loved this story!!! Liam North is everything you could possibly want in a protective alpha male. The more I read, the more my heart ached for him. His past has coloured his present and he keeps his distance with people. No one more so than Samantha. He protects her with rules but then again perhaps he is protecting himself from her.
Samantha is a sweet young woman who more than anything wants to be seen as a young adult and not a child. She is still innocent in many aspects and yet, wise beyond her years.
*”How vulnerable it makes me to have something vital to my existence belong to another human being.”*
This line is everything. It can be applied to anyone. Anyone in love. This was a real stand out line for me that continued to stay with me.
There were many incredible characters in this story including the other North men: Josh and Elijah. All the North men are different and yet similar. There connection and interactions are interesting to watch. I did love the other North men but Liam holds a special place for me.
I wasn’t sure if anything could be as good as the Trust Fund Duet but Skye Warren has proven that she is magical in her writing. The amount of detail and care taken to create such a beautiful story is to be commended. The trivia we learn about the violin world is brilliant because I’ve always loved the instrument. But we also learn about Liam’s past as well as Samantha and how their paths crossed for the first time. While there is an age gap between them and their attraction is taboo, it never felt tainted and wrong. Perhaps it’s because Samantha makes the choices. As Liam said: *”Because I made rules and she followed them, but that was always her choice. I only ever had as much control as she gave me.”* The two of them certainly share a bond with both of them having difficulty childhoods but I think their bond goes beyond that. Samantha softens the harden soldier and shows him love. Liam cares enough for Samantha to give her everything she needs and knows that she needs to fly and so refuses to stand in her way. But I love them together! And just as I was reaching the end, I was blown away by a revelation and found myself saying: WHAT THE HE…!!!!
I am bursting, absolutely bursting, to read the next book to find out what happens to Liam and Samantha! Skye Warren has created another fantastic story which captured my attention and imagination from page one.
I want Liam North to be my guardian.
Wow I can’t wait to see how this story plays out. All kinds of taboo and all kinds of feels and chemistry. You can feel how conflicted Liam is which makes it a lot less creepy and a whole lot more fun to experience. A little heartbreaking but the story isn’t over yet! I want more ASAP.
I received an advanced/review copy of this book. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content and honesty of my review.
Skye Warren is a fantastic writer, and this book was no exception to that. I love the older man/younger woman trope–especially with a little added taboo elements. And let me tell you; the amount of steam and slow burn sexiness in this book is perfection. I loved this book and I’m dying to read the next one!
Original review: http://alatedbibliophile.com/2019/03/07/overture-skye-warren/
“When he’s holding me, the darkness can’t reach us.”
Samantha Brooks is about to turn eighteen and is a violin prodigy. She lost her parents early, but despite this, everything in her life seems perfect and flawless. Her notes, the way she plays the violin … everything except this love interest in her tutor Liam North that she keeps a secret.
Liam North is thirty years old and owns North Security. But he hides secrets that can keep him from the person he cares about most: his protégée Samantha Brooks. Guilt was what brought him near her and memories of a little bird that he can not save.
This is not an easy topic to read. The age difference between the two is a taboo in society. The fact that he is tutor of the young woman even more controversial. They are two people broken in different ways. She feels that she can be abandoned at any moment if she does not do exactly what is expected of her, because of everything she has lived with her father. He thinks he is a beast, a demon unable to love. That he deserved all bad treatment from his father as a child.
In an inexplicable way, they understand each other and complete each other. Like a weird puzzle. Emotionally intense and dramatic, the book mess with the emotions, at the same time that brings sensual scenes and revelations that at the end of the narrative leave the reader shocked. And that put us face to face with an uncomfortable reality: when we speak of human behavior and emotions, anything can happen. Even if it is considered morally dubious.

The worst thing about Liam and Samantha’s story is that I have to wait for the next book. Who doesn’t like a hot alpha male who chooses to take in an orohan and give her the world and himselfm I read “Overture” in two days because I couldn’t put it down and it’s Skye Warren at her absolute best
An age gap forbidden romance? Sign me all the way up! I’ve wanted to read more from Skye Warren ever since I listened to Heavy Equipment on the Read Me Romance podcast and so I jumped at the opportunity to review this. I have to say I was not disappointed – the way she built the tension between Samantha and Liam and the mystery behind his past with her father is oh so delicious and intriguing. Add to that, Liam has brothers and I so want their stories too! I wasn’t expecting this to end on a cliffhanger, so that was mildly frustrating, but I’m along for the ride. I have to see how the mystery plays out and witness Liam and Samantha get the HEA they deserve. 4 out 5 wine glasses.
When I first started it read this book, it felt like something I had read a hundred times before. Nothing special and nothing extraordinary happens but I kept reading. It did pick up in pace but not until very much later in the book; then all the secrets spilled like a split bag of skittles.
I also felt that a lot of back story was missing, past childhoods for both the main characters, events happening in current time that would have enhanced the twists and the secrets. I can’t deny Skye has given us three very sexy and very hot men in the North brothers but I felt cheated out of a story.
I’m hoping the second part picks up as I’m just invested enough to keep reading to find out how it will all end.
When I went into this book, reading only the blurb, I thought it was going to be very similar to another book I read (age gap, classical music, guardian/ward), but I was SO. WRONG. Skye Warren managed to bring together something that seem impossible and make it possible.
Our main couple have gone through quite a bit together. Liam North gains custody of Samantha Brookes after her father dies. Unbeknownst to her, her life isn’t as simple as it seems and Liam is a lot more involved with the death of her father than she expects. Once she turns 18, as a young and talented violinist, she is about to embark on her first tour with a professional orchestra, but something is holding her back–her feelings for Liam. The two take their first steps on what will most definitely be a path full of judgement and danger.
I did not realize the series title when I got this book. I was pleasantly surprised to see that Liam and his brothers were in this team (seemingly of ex-military men and women) and they had their own /secret/ mission and goal. This addition changed the whole story line from where I thought the book was going to go, and took it to a whole other level that left me breathless. Samantha and Liam are believable, which is one of the most important things I look for in a good book. They went through internal and external turmoil about their feelings and what steps to take. Although, thinking back on it, the book is a slow burn, it didn’t feel like a slow burn! I COULDN’T PUT IT DOWN. Skye Warren captivated me with their love story and I’ve never been happier that this book is only the first in a series.
Can’t wait to see what’s to come!
5 Stars!
5 hot as sin stars!!!
I am sooooo ANGRY!! Skye really destroyed me in one page turn. OVER?!?!! I am dying here. I need book two NOW!! So as you can see this is a brand new series “North Security” and this is book one. And yes it ends in a damn cliffhanger, I love to hate it!!
This is Liam and Samantha’s TABOO love story….
Liam ~ I am her guardian. I know the secrets. I know the memories she lost. I want her in every way possible. But I can’t have her…
Samantha ~ he is not my father. He doesn’t need me. I need him. Music is my life but all I can think about is my guardian. I want him….
My thoughts…
This is a total taboo love story. And it is fucking HOT!! The tension had me all types of crazy. I have found my 2019 book boyfriend. Liam is everything!! Sorry Samantha but I am head over heels. I am not even embellishing. He is sexy, protective, loyal, passionate, loving (even when he thinks he is not), and did I mention sexy as hell?!!!
This book is written by one gifted author!! I was already a fan of Skye’s but this is my favorite book of hers so far. I can’t wait to get my hands on every single one of these books!!
Be ready for your world to be rocked. Daddy issues welcomed. And I would like to mention that Elijah and Josh are just as hot!!! This is a definite MUST read!!!
**I received this book as an ARC and in return gave my honest review**
Well. I didn’t know what to really expect!
I love all of her books!!!
This is a Tanglewood soon off. And you see a little of Bea from Escort!!
This is a gently taboo storyline.
A ward falling for her guardian.
The guardian is head over heels for her but knows it’s not right.
The angst in this mixed with the heat. Whew.
L O V E D it!!!
Ends on cliffhanger. Concerto out in May!!
Skye Warren
Overture was good and worth the read and I’ll be interested to see what happens in Concerto, but the rest of my review has spoilers, so that’s all I’ll say here. For full review with spoilers, check out my Goodreads page.
Classically Strung!!!
This novel is a perfect execution of combining classical musicians with a suspenseful and thrilling forbidden romance!
I wish I didn’t have to wait until May to read Concerto!
This book is incredible. Loved every second. Need book two now!!! This books was
“Almost doesn’t count”
Liam is a man who grew up believing he is had the Devil in him but ends up with an innocent twelve-year-old ward, Samantha, who has developed into a violin prodigy. poised to go out in the real world. All alone. Without him to protect her.
It would not be so hard for either of them if they could only just be more, move beyond the guardian-ward relationship. If only they could act on the way they now feel for each other. If only it would not hurt so much when Samantha leaves Liam.
But while both have a lot to prove, and maybe not just to themselves, someone is laying wait in the shadows, perhaps connecting a time in their pasts when their paths had all crossed.
What an amazing read, full of romantic, lustful, sinful, and innocent emotions, all exposed amongst others, and I am so glad that there is still more of their story to come!
Liam is Samantha’s guardian and she loves him and craves to be loved by him, but she is not eighteen so this is her little secret to keep. Liam has become cold and hard so he does everything to keep Samantha at arms length even breaks her heart. Skye Warren has written another unique romance that keeps you totally spellbound, is intense, arousing, emotional and the attraction between Liam and Samantha is sizzling. Love does not dictate age or who to love, it just happens. I loved Overture and highly recommend this book!
Holy cow. This book was so, so good. I need more. I can’t wait to read Concerto. This was the kind of taboo I like. Liam North was dark and broody with those deep rooted issues that makes him swoony! Fabulous story! One of my fav tropes ever!
Reading this now and loving it! One-click this baby!
I was expecting something dark. More disturbing. Forbidden. Overture is more than that. It’s unique in its own way. A perfect combination of innocence, steamy scenes, and heart-warming words that only Skye Warren can create.
The relationship between Liam North and our little prodigy Samantha Brooks was super cute. Natural. Full of tension. I can’t remember ever being so frustrated over a slow burn (Liam, wake up!).
I really liked how things played out in the end and I can’t wait to see more.
THIS.FUCKING.WOMAN …… just wow
Everything about this story was edgy but yet not quite dark. I’ve come to expect darkness in Skye Warren’s story-lines but I honestly did not feel it while I read this book.
The entire story had a forbidden aura to it. It tempted me and drew me into every single word and moment throughout the story. Took me to very edge but never quite pushed me over.
This is where my review stops LOL And you wanna know why (that’s me screeching lol) … Because I got blindsided in the most glorious way and fell the fuck over! And I want every single one of you, to fall exactly the same way I did.
This book is the epitome of Skye Warren. IT IS GLORIOUS and it is why I love her work so damn much!
