Taboo, sexy, emotional, and heart wrenching! Amazing characters, intriguing storyline and taboo sex! What a way to start a new series that only this terrific author could pull off. The hunky ex-soldier, Liam and his young ward, Samantha traverses the forbidden waters of desire and lust. He’s a bit of a creeper when she young but it’s not one sided. Sam has a major crush on the sex on legs hunk and is willing to push the envelope especially when she’s all grown up. Liam knows he should go there be Sam is too irresistible plus he has knowledge that could blow apart any kind of relationship between the two. What a cliffhanger! Can’t wait for the next installment. Great to start to the new North Security series! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC.
Did the teaser make you think ‘hmm, this sounds good?’ Well, just wait. You haven’t read anything yet. Skye Warren begins this story by giving us an e-military man taking guardianship of a twelve year old violin prodigy. She’s woven such an intense tale of mystery and human emotion that will pull you in almost immediately from the first page. I was so immersed it was as if I was in the middle of these interactions rather just on the sideline and to be honest, there were those moments I was so affected I felt the tears slide from the corners of my eyes. Two battered souls from completely different circumstances who fight their own set of demons. This is such a dark, twisted romance you won’t be able to put it down. I want to know what happens next!
Audiobook version:
This was my first Taboo read and I have to say, I loved it! I was honestly expecting more shock and awe from a perverse standpoint when going into a book I am told is a taboo but honestly this was so much more that just a “Taboo” read. The story, the characters, You almost forget it is supposed to be taboo and just run with it. I can not wait to read more!
The narration was Great! Teddy and Grace are always enjoyable performers so I expected nothing less than the awesomeness they provided!

Awesome. Hated to put it down. Will definitely follow this author.
Overture is a slow burn, hot, roll coaster ride with gritty taboo forbidden desire, that turns into an untethered love. Top that off with suspense, intrigue, lies, deceit and possible heart break, that that only Skye knows and hopefully reveals to us soon. I certainly can’t wait for the next book.
In addition to that it narrated by the amazing voices of Grace Grant and Teddy Hamilton.

Overture
Series: North Security Book 1
By: Skye Warren
Narrated by: Teddy Hamilton, Grace Grant
I am a huge music lover, and this sweet taboo was music to my ears! Liam North takes on the responsibility as guardian to child violin prodigy, Samantha Brooks after the untimely death of her father. Their relationship is not one of parent/child but more protector/child in the beginning, and as time went on, their dynamic changed. Now coming up to her 18th birthday, graduation and a world tour, Samantha is trying to come to grips with her attraction to Liam. conflicted as his priority is her safety and with her past, there is a definite need of protection. Will they give in to the passion? Will Samantha remember her past? The shocking ending is quite the cliffhanger and leaves me wanting to know what will happen next. It’s the perfect mixture of taboo, passion and suspense, all music to my ears.
Teddy Hamilton and Grace Grant are wonderful together in their narration. Hamilton breathes that conflicted feeling in Liam so perfectly, your heart will hurt. His conversational style makes you feel like you know Liam and want to help him work through is desperate attempt to stay neutral. Grant is amazing as Samantha. Though I think her voice is a little mature for a 17-18 year old, she gives the inflection of defiance and yearning strength that Samantha has. Her passionate voice has that desperation Samantha feels as time gets closer to her tour. It’s a great listen and leaves you looking for more.

When the one thing you crave is the only thing you can never touch.
Overture is an addictive listen. Absolutely everything you could want in a forbidden romance. It’s well written and perfectly narrated.
I would recommend this for anyone who enjoys forbidden/taboo, OTT Alphas, steamy angst and suspense. I can’t wait to continue on in this series.
I love this book but I wish it was mentioned in the blurb that it’s a cliffhanger…
Great storyline with good progression
Characters descriptions is good, they all feels familiar after a while.
There’s lots of feelings and the author has a way of getting the emotions through in her story.
Steamy love scenes
Samantha is strong and Liam is stubborn, it’s a turbulent relationship growing between them.
Narrators:
Very good voices that has clear pronunciation and passionate reading.
If you like a hint of forbidden love and a cliffhanger I recommend you listen to this. Even with the cliffhanger it’s worth it. Next book please!!!

I am still coming down from the emotion this book put me through. This was my first Skye Warren book and I am craving more especially book 2 to this series. Be aware this is a cliffhanger, I was not but so glad I listened. This is a story of a young girl that is a violin prodigy and he is in the custody of a man 16 years her senior that took the job as her protection after her father died expediently. He and his brothers run a security company but his main priority for the last 6 years have been protecting Samantha as well as allowing her the opportunities to plan her music. He isn’t her substitute father, not in any way even though he is her legal guardian. As she nears 18 and will be out from under his guardianship and set to leave his home he starts to have other feelings besides protection for Samantha. There is mystery and bad guys and smoldering hot moments that are intense as well as pain from past hurts that will break your heart. I am completely wrapped up in this book and series. I HATE cliffhangers but I am completely hooked with this one and chomping at the bit for book two to release in May.
Teddy Hamilton and Grace Grant were amazing in this audio. Oh my the emotion the put into this book will pull you in completely. You are with Liam and Samantha and all the other great characters throughout the entire book. Loved their voices.
I received a code to listen and review this book and give my honest opinion. I loved this audio and I highly recommend it.

Overture (North Security #1) “Forbidden fruit never tasted this sweet….”
Overture, told in duo pov’s, is a cyclonic forbidden May-December romantic suspense.
Conspiracy, danger and mysteries lurking through the pages to create a captivating listen.
Dark secrets and lies revealed in tiers leading into the ending with a earthquake twist.
Character’s are compelling with complex personalities.
I loved how each chapter begins with a quote and music.
OH MY GOLLY GOSH! This ends with a crackajack of a bombshell cliffhanger. Concerto North Security #2 ebook doesn’t come out till May, I need the audiobook asap.
Narators Teddy Hamilton and Grace Grant are both new to me. Pace, tone and pitch flowed through smoothly. Just the right amount of passion to bring the narrative alive.

Overture
By: Skye Warren
Narrated by: Teddy Hamilton, Grace Grant
This is one of those stories that captivates you from start to end. It is well written, with interesting storylines and characters that are complex and well developed. Liam North and his brothers are ex military and operate a security firm who handle secretive missions. He and his brothers did not have a the best upbringing, Liam is a shell of a person, who thinks he is unable to feel, love and is undeserving to receive it. Yet, 6 years earlier he took guardianship of a 12 year old girl, Samantha, who was left an orphan. Samantha is a violinists and music prodigy. She has developed feeling for Liam, but he can not reciprocate her feelings and just won’t go there because she is his ward and it is wrong. Things change on her 18th birthday but he is all wrong for her and has to let her go, let the bird fly. This story offers so much, there is drama, angst, twists, suspense, action, secrets are revealed and lines are crossed. How long can Liam deny that he does feel, that he does love Samantha and not as a guardian but so much more. Skye Warren thank you for this great story, I need the next book “Concerto” pronto, I hope it is coming out on Audible when it releases in May too.
I listened to the Audible edition, Teddy Hamilton and Grace Grant are wonderful narrators and voice performers. They bring the characters to life, give them their voice, personality and attitude. Each are entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Shout out to Teddy Hamilton’s Liam, you could hear how broken of a man he was and Grace Grant’s Samantha, she had an innocence about her. Thank you for this great listen

The basics of this story surround a teenage violin prodigy who was orphaned at 12. The guardian that took custody of her was only 28 at the time so they’ve essentially grown up together. The story is told from a dual point of view, so we learn mainly through flashbacks from Liam’s POV what happened…sort of. As Samantha nears her graduation and her 18th birthday, she’s also embarking on her first world tour, leaving Liam and her life as she knew it, behind. Liam feels overwhelming guilt about his feelings for his young ward, but he also alludes that the guilt stems from something else that happened in the past which affected their paths. Although Samantha has led a fairly sheltered life since her family mainly consists of all the men and women of North Security, Liam’s company, her romantic feelings are quite mature. Aside from the taboo romance between Liam and Samantha, we find out there’s a dangerous threat to her life htat might be linked back to her father. This book ends in a cliffhanger. I can’t wait to see how it plays out in Concerto!
I love this author and always look forward to her new releases. That’s why this review is difficult to write because this book confused me. On the one hand, I liked the intrigue and the premise that Liam knows a lot more than he is letting on throughout the book. I love that Samantha is a prodigy and the descriptions of her violin playing were vibrant and beautiful. The attraction between the two didn’t bother me either. Where I came up short was how much back and forth there was as the two dealt with their inner thoughts – there was just too much of it. I wanted more of the mystery. It took a long time for something to happen (both relationship-wise and in terms of the intrigue and secrets). And the bombshell at the end seemed rushed without any real set up to it. I’m hoping that the second book answers more of the questions in a quicker manner. I’ll give this one 3.5 stars because it took too long for any type of movement to occur. This review was based on a complimentary pre-release copy.
Overture was my first Skye Warren book, I was drawn to it because of the classical music element, it is one that speaks to me and isn’t seen that often in the romance world. Overture is a forbidden romance between Samantha a 17 year old, violinist musical genius and Liam her legal guardian who is almost 15 years her senior.
The story was a delicious slow burn, with clear chemistry between the two leading characters. Both mentally struggling with their attraction to the other and neither acting on it because of their perceived legal relationship to one another. Samantha is motivated, driven and is about to go off on her first classical music tour across the world. She has fears of losing Liam when she is of age and no longer a burden, she worries about being lonely, yet is determined to establish herself as a professional violinist.
Liam is a soldier, owner and leader of a private security firm alongside his two brothers, a wealthy alpha hero at his core. Liam requested guardianship of Samantha when she was orphaned at 12 and has raised and nurtured her with a firm leash, he is now struggling to wrap his mind around setting her free. Liam holds secrets about why he took guardianship of Samantha, about why he protects and watches her so closely, as the book progresses little titbits are fed to us; but I feel there is a far bigger plan in play here.
The delicious slow burn between Samantha and Liam reached one magical scene for me on the night of her 18th birthday. Skye Warren paints the scene majestically, Samantha bathed in moonlight as she picks up her Stradivarius to play Beethoven’s 5 secrets as Liam grazes the skin of her inner thighs……holy mother of god!!!! all the hotness, if you read this scene listen to the piece of music as you read and you will never forget it!
Towards the end of this novel the twists start to play out in the plot and we see Liam close himself off as Samantha drives away from him into her new life on tour, starting it with a broken heart.
At times in the first half of the novel I found the story slowed a little too much for my liking and it needed something outside of Liam and Samantha’s slow burn to keep the pace and storyline fresh. Other than that I enjoyed my first Novel from Skye Warren and I am looking forward to getting my hands on Concerto to see if Liam can realy let Samantha fly free after all.
*This book ends in a cliff hanger* I wasn’t aware of that before starting the book but the second book is soon to be released.
Samantha Brooke is an almost 18 year old child prodigy. She has an amazing talent with the Violin and is soon to start going on tour. When her father died 6 years ago Liam North took her in as his legal guardian. Now that the clock is ticking down to her 18th birthday, a lot of things are about to change, secret revealed, and the temptation between them both is starting to become unbearable.
This was an amazing read (listen). Liam is dark, and captivating. The whole story has a seductive and forbidden feel as Liam is 16 years older than Samantha, but there is so much more to the story than the forbidden fruit story line as there are many twists along the way that must be revealed. All throughout both Liam and Samantha feel wrong about their desire for each other.
Can not wait for the second book to be released.

What Lilith Liked: Skye keeps us enthralled with this very romantic and haunting novella.
What Lilith Didn’t Like: It’s too short . . . as usual with Skye’s writing, I want more!
Lilith’s Favorite Quote: “Somehow the two of us, complete and utter strangers, became a family.”
In a Nutshell: A lovely respite. An easy evening read.
Lilith’s Sizzle Meter: Sensual
4.5 Stars for Overture which book 1 in the new North Security Series from Skye Warren. Thi book is a beautifully written taboo romance with the perfect mix of love and angst.
Liam North never expected to become Samantha’s guardian, he never expected to suddenly be responsible for a teenage girl. Samantha was a child prodigy with the violin when she came to live with Liam but now she becoming a woman and she does everything in her power to make Liam see that she is not the child he still sees her as…….
Liam may have taken Sam in as a teenager but most of this story is written from when Sam reaches 17 well nearly 18 to be exact, this is a story about two very complex people fighting their emotions and their feelings, it’s about secrets but most importantly it’s above love. This book touched me on every level, it touched my heart as I watched this couple try to find happiness whilst struggling because society says they should never have fallen in love . Looking forward to what’s next in this series because if this book is anything to go by it will certainly be a hit for this very talented author.

Where on earth do I begin! I pre-ordered Overture since the synopsis not only sparked my interest, but the very thought of reading a forbidden romance revolving around a nobel instrument such as is the violin…well, I was sold. And I have to say as a frustrated musician, Warren’s research into and knowledge of the finer points of music is outstanding. So, when it hit my Kindle in the early hours of the morning; I picked it up and that was that! Everyone started to move except me! Those curious looks thrown my way went ignored. I’d begun the book and had no wish whatsoever to put it down, but was it worth supporting long faces and grumbles. No doubt about it!
The plot works up to a crescendo of incredible intensity. And if it were ever possible, between the staves and the sacrifice for pitches of perfection, secrets one could never have imagined lie. Answers to questions are masterfully convoluted evoking a sense of unrest and not just for the reader. Samantha’s wants to know more. Setting out on a quest to conquer the man she’s loved for what seemed like forever, I must say her resourcefulness to draw attention to herself worked wonders.
Young, talented and determined, Samantha has yet to take the world by storm. She’s been schooled to study, has dexterity and stamina in abundance despite lacking in a few life skills. I have no wish to divulge the reasons why she’d been overly protected by her guardian; however, I couldn’t help but fall hard for this lass whose innocent demeanour I found such a becoming trait. In contrast, I think there’s much more to be said about her sad childhood.
‘Growing up isn’t about learning something new. It’s about unlearning the fairy tales you believed as a child.’
For me, Liam is the perfect gentleman. Ex-military, gorgeous, commanding and quite a bit older than Samantha, he’d cease to be her ward when she reaches legal age. Liam’s is torn between love, guilt and duty. His oh-so troubled soul stirred my emotions and I thought if anyone deserved happiness, it was him. Unfortunately, what I wanted and what the author had in mind were completely different things altogether. You won’t hear me complaining though.
“I’m not fighting demons, sweetheart. I am one.”
Regardless of the age difference or the complex situation there were in, I never felt uncomfortable with Liam and Samantha’s inner thoughts which believe you me, they are titillating and heart-wrenching all in one.
“Then how do you think of me?”
‘My greatest pride and my deepest regret.’
Now, whether you like cliffhangers or not in my honest opinion, Liam and Samantha’s story just has to go on because firstly, I didn’t want the book to finish and secondly, goodness me…the intrigue. Being left up in the air often gets the better of me but for once, my only desire was to get my hands on the follow-up, Concerto. Coming in the middle of May, it couldn’t come sooner. Newbie to Warren’s writing, while chatting to book buddies about this book, many of her novels have been recommended to me, so it’s highly likely I’ll be pushing them to the top of my TBR list. Beautifully written, Overture is a without a doubt, a must-one-click. Bravo!
You can feel the heat and longing in every page of this book! With both characters desiring something they have to hold back from. There are secrets surrounding Samantha and Liam’s pasts, and suspense in their future. I have a feeling the action is just beginning. Book one was more about the sensual action, and I’ll bet book two is filled more with the someone out to get me kind.
All in all, this book set me on fire and made me root for them to figure it all out, while being super curious as to what’s coming.
WTH! I didn’t realize this book was not a standalone it ended on a cliffhanger that left me breathless and wanting more! So much more, like NOW!
Overture by Skye Warren is full of sensuality, angst and heartbreak. Not to mention secrets and suspense.
The build up was slow but it made the suspense so much more powerful.
The writing is flawless and flows so very well.
This is a taboo read. A panty-melting May-December romance.
I loved Liam and Samantha together. They both have old souls and are lonely. They seek solace in each other but he, aware of how inappropriate their relationship is, fights his attraction and his desire. And boy, let me tell you, you can feel the attraction and desire, they are palpable.
Liam is a broody, ex-military man and has many secrets he does not share with her.
She is a musical prodigy. Her only taste of sensuality, her music-until Liam.
Together, the sparks fly! The angst is almost unbearable and the secrets could be deadly.
Skye Warren has written the perfect blend of romance, suspense and angst and it will leave you aching for more.
I received an ARC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
