Enjoyed this overture!
Overture is just that – an introduction to the of the world & characters of Liam & Samantha. Theirs is a forbidden love as they are guardian/ward with an age difference, so if that does not appeal to you then you might not like this book. But I love a good forbidden relationship! The author created Liam & Samantha with a rich history & sizzling chemistry that made me root for them & feel for them both. The author weaved a tale of espionage, secrets, love with a twist ending that left me wanting to have the next book now!
I have mixed feelings abut this book.
While I enjoyed the small amount of suspense that this story had,I didn’t like the romance between Liam and Samantha.
This is age gap/taboo story.Liam is Samantha’s guardian until the moment she turns 18.The problem is that that they don’t have any sort of “family” feeling towards each other, actually they are in love with each other. Now,thay are not really related, which was something that was stated from the beginning and something that I appreciated. Because of that I was able to overlook(sort of) the taboo part of this story. My biggest problem is actually the age difference between these two.Samantha is 18 and Liam is 32.In y opinion the 14 years of age difference is a bit too much.Especially because Samantha is only 18,I just can’t shake the feeling of wrongness in that relationship. He is too old for her. But,the romance was portrayed nicely. It was passionate and it felt true and at the same time it wasn’t distasteful.
Liam and Sam were nice characters.Liam is ex-military,dominant and beautiful. He is also caring, even tho he doesn’t believe in that.Sam is violin prodigy, smart and a little bit naive, but nice heroine in general.Bot of them were likable.
I enjoyed the suspense that was happening behind the scene and I definitely can’t wait to know more about Sam’s father and everything that was happening there.
Overall,I found my self enjoying this book, minus the romance part.
Heartbreaking and intimate … Skye Warren delivers a masterful and poetic portrayal of forbidden love and impossible choices.
I didn’t like the book. It was the same thing thru the whole book. For me it was twisted in that her Guardian and her end up romantically. It was boring to be honest
She has a crush on the man who’s been her guardian for the past six years. He fantasies about her mouth on parts f body. It’s forbidden. It’s inappropriate. It’s taboo. She’s not yet eighteen. He’s sixteen years older than her.
Samantha is a violin prodigy ready to step into the world. She’s obedient, trustworthy and careful. Samantha lives with a group of military soldiers on a compound. The compound known as North Security is located in Kingston, Texas, a small town.
Liam has been protecting Sam from a danger she’s unaware of. He’s an ex military man who owns a security firm. He runs his household the same way he runs his business with a regimented schedule, discipline, and structure.
He has legal custody of her, but she’s never seen him as a father. He’s never seen her as a daughter just someone to protect.
Her father was an Ambassador whose life was cut short. Despite his death her life’s still in danger. Liam’s known her life’s in danger so he requested to become her guardian. With all that said this is only part of the story that fell short. I felt if it had more storyline this could’ve been a suspenseful story.
After reading four books in a row by Skye Warren I’ve come to the conclusion that each book follows a formulaic pattern of being taboo, unconventional, insta-love, forbidden, age gap, and erotic. Here’s another common element her characters have a push n’ pull connecting at one point only to end with a cliffhanger. It’s all too repetitive.
Eventhough the subject matter and storyline are good I still find myself skimming. Nothing sticks or holds my interest. The manner in which Skye executes her story and builds her characters doesn’t attract interest in me. I find her characters are emotionally unattached thus creating an unattached feeling from me.
There was more talking about the taboo nature of the relationship without crossing the line.
Skye’s writing style doesn’t draw out that page turning need in me. Every one of her characters comes across as cold and distant. The attraction felt misguided not taboo. When you factor in her parental loss and abandonment issues it’s easy to decipher where the crush stems from.
This is book 1 in a three part series. Samantha is the ward of Liam North a terrifying ex-military badass (though he is not terrifying with her). This is an age gap story. He’s 16 years older than her and she is just turning 18. He’s starting to see her as something other than a child and she’s got a thing for him too. She’s a violinist. A prodigy and is about to go on a world tour, but someone wants her dead. (And OMG at the end of this first installment you find out who. WOW. That’s all I’ll say.)
I’m loving this series! (Listening on audiobook as usual!) I wouldn’t call this a dark read, though it may escalate in future books, who knows, but it is a very GOOD read and people who like dark reads may like it because where I write TEXT (he owns her, there is power play kink etc), Skye writes subtext. And that subtext can still push all the buttons. Liam is definitely a growly hero that pushes those buttons.
Overture by Skye Warren is a forbidden romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Teddy Hamilton and Grace Grant. This is book one in the North Security Series. I cannot wait to dive into book two Concerto.
This is the first book of Skye’s that I have read and it definitely won’t be my last. The story was well written with just enough suspense and sexual scenes for a forbidden romance.
Teddy and Grace are an amazing duo. I love the dual narration it makes it simple to keep up with the story. I cannot wait to hear future works by these narrators.

Not a fan of thirties man 17 year old girl. Disgusting
Hauntingly beautiful with intense characters and incredible writing, Overture had me gripped from the very first page leaving me desperate for more by the end.
My initial thoughts were: I couldn’t sleep last night I had to finish this book to see how it ended….and then OMG just push me off the cliff why don’t you! I need Concerto NOW!!!! Now it has been almost ten days since I finished the book and I am still wondering what is going to happen and how soon can I get my hands on Concerto.
It had been a while since I read any of Skye Warren’s books and to be quite honest I’m not sure why, especially after reading this book. I am sooooo glad I had the opportunity as well as the time to read an Advance Readers Copy of this book. OVERTURE is the first book in the NORTH SECURITY SERIES and I can tell you right now this is a series you are going to want to read, if you enjoy your books a little dark, a little taboo, yep this is the one for you!
Liam North had been awarded guardianship to Samantha Brooks after her fathers untimely death six years ago. Liam always had a soft spot when it came to Samantha but don’t let that fool you, he is as tough as nails especially if you mess with someone he cares about.
Samantha is about to graduate high school, turn eighteen, and embark on a world tour playing the violin along side some other amazing musicians, her time with Liam is coming to an end because once she’s eighteen his guardianship is over.
Samantha has had a crush on Liam for a while now and she is determined to make him see her as a woman instead of his ward before she leaves for the tour, little does she know he’s been having some unparental feelings about her as well. We are gifted with some sexy alone time that highlights just how much the other is craved. I personally loved this part, it definitely added to the heat and sexual tension building in the story.
This story pulled me in right from the beginning and never let go, well until the cliffhanger had me wanting to throw my kindle across the room. If you are looking for a read that is a little dark and on the taboo side I would recommend this book to you…just remember there is a cliffhanger and the next book comes out in May. Happy Reading!!!
**I have voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book for my Blog, Nadine’s Obsessed with Books**
4 Star review Overture by Skye Warren
Skye Warren is a new author to me, no idea why that is though. I had no idea that Overture ends on a cliff hanger so be prepared.
I was a little hesitant about this book at first as I am not too keen on stories where the age difference is substantial; however, I went in to Overture with an open mind.
This was a book that despite my initial reservations I enjoyed. Liam North is a man who struggles over the feelings he has for his ward Samantha Brooks, a violin prodigy.
There was plenty to tug at the heart strings in this story, as Liam and Samantha struggle with their feelings and attraction. Both Liam and Samanyja struggle with their demons from the past and it is this struggle that forms the basis for this story. Liam will do anything to protect Samantha from the danger if hidden enemies. They both feel the need to protect one another not only from others but from each other.
There were some surprising twists and turns in Overture and I am interested to see what happens in the next book. Will Samantha find the answers that she desperately seeks? I can’t wait to find out.
My heart is breaking for Samantha and Liam. With everything they have been through, all the years they secretly loved one another, their fate should be sealed as a loving couple. But the taboo stigma of her being his ward prevents this from happening and although Sam wants it to happen, Liam stays strong.
I love how Tanglewood is still in these stories!
Honestly? This was a book I couldn’t put down once I picked up. The entire taboo-ness of it all. The anticipation. The steam. I had a knot in my throat reading each tension-soaked scene. (Not even kidding)
Forbidden enough to make you squirm and tinged with sensuality and affection.
If Taboo Romance is up your alley, you’ll delight in this forbidden romance known as Overture where Skye Warren hit all the right notes. (No pun intended). 🙂
I really enjoyed how this book was written. It’s considered
taboo probably because of the age gap. Once you start
reading though, you see that the feelings are mutual and in no
way distasteful. From the very first chapters Samantha
& Liam have you hooked on what turns out to be something
much more for either of them. Due to his age and his line
of work, and he tends to keep Samantha at arms length, but
that soon changes when she starts pushing for more and the
lines start to get blurred. There’s romance, suspense, intrigue
that’ll keep you reading till the very end. I hope to see more
of the side characters in the next book. Can’t wait for “Concerto,”
because I was seriously left with a book hangover
This was smart, sexy book, with a lot going for it. The main character of Samantha was an enjoyable teen character, as were her two best friends Laney and Cody. Her guardian Liam, and also his brothers Josh and Elijah, were hard asses, but very loving in an overbearingly protective way. It was sad to see how insecure Samantha was, due to her initial upbringing with her father and then her strange existence with the North brothers. The romance was intriguing, if a little skewed. You get the sense that Samantha & Liam could do a lot for one another, other than just sexually, if they gave themselves the chance. It’s mostly Liam that tries to keep them apart, but Samantha does have her hangups as well. The background intrigue seems to be quite important, but kind of shuttled into the background noise. While I had heard this was the first book in a new series, I hadn’t realized that the books would be a continuous story, instead of stand-alones. This volume most definitely felt like the beginning of a story, where there was a lot of groundwork laid and world building performed. But it was most definitely not a complete story, and really just left the reader on a cliffhanger in a number of different aspects. This was probably the biggest reason that I quite enjoyed but didn’t completely love the book. I’m looking forward to reading future installments though, and have high hopes for the remainder of the tale.
Five tempting stars! This book is epic taboo and sensual temptation.
For heaven’s sake! Overture by Skye Warren is the ultimate forbidden tale with too many shades of sinful taboo wrapped in elegance and consuming temptation. It seduced all my senses to the point of craziness. It is fire. It is ice. It is an earth-shaking and mind-blowing reading that leave you craving and aching for more. It is a sweet symphony that entices you and lures you like the Pied Piper of Hamelin. It is a dark harmony and steamy surrender that temps your soul and heart. The writing is deliciously dark and tempting as hell. Forbidden never tasted so sweet before. It is poetically incorrect and darkly absorbing. Everything about this book screams flawless perfection. There is nothing as taboo as this.
In my opinion this book is raw sensuality. It gravitates to what is wrong and taboo, to what is impulsive and rough abandon to dark desires and unforgettable devotion. The plot is unique and original. The story develops around the music world where dark notes are played between a violin prodigy and her military guardian. The angst level is a delicious torture that adds intimacy and ardour. Overture is more than a sensual reading. It is a book where love defies the conventional. It is a fight against what it is correct and what it is wrong. The story of Liam and Samantha is an unconventionally fairy tale where pleasure is a bittersweet torture sedated by obscure notes that awakes desire and love in the most primal way.
Liam North is such a complex man tortured by his painful past. The shadows are consuming his soul and his demons are wining his heart. Cold ice runs through his veins and it only could be melt by the repressed desire towards his ward. She is the only one who can warm his frozen heart. But wanting her as a woman is wrong. He should protect her even from himself despite letting her go could kill him and send him to the numb darkness.
Samantha is the virginal heroine, a temptress of taboo and forbidden. Her innocence is a mirror of her desire and it will break Liam’s armour. Wanting her guardian keeps fire running through her veins. The liquid desire pools in the most secret place of her anatomy killing her a making feel so alive at the same. Liam makes her feel protected and his damage soul calls to her like a lullaby. Dark Notes wrap her desire for him.
What Liam and Samantha have, is like oceans rise to kiss the moon. They defy nature. The growing a consuming feeling is like gravity. Their desire pulls them to exactly where they need to be. It’s too intense that it takes over them. Samantha brings Liam back to life when he lights the fire that is burning her insides.
I’m just a simple bookworm trying to figuring out how a book like this ruined me in the most tempting way. Skye Warren never disappoints me. There is no doubt that she is the queen of taboo romance. Her talent is impressive. She is a wonderful writer. She gifted us a new addiction. Liam North. He is the epitome of an alpha man. He is sin personified and dark temptation. The story told in the pages of this book is seductive and utterly obsessing. It pours forbidden desire and taboo passion. Overture is an intense story that can rip you to shreds. It is raging passion contained by the tiny lines of rules and morality. It is wrong desire packed in dark secrets.
WOW!!!
Ask for a taboo romance and BOOM! You are definitely going to be obsessed with Overture by Skye Warren.
Exquisite, well written, addictive and raw, are the perfect definitions for this, out of charts, forbidden romance.
It’s impossible not to be on edge, every time you turn over a page of this book. Trying, without luck, to stop the tremor of the hands or the fast beat of your heart when with insistence, you try to understand the reasons why, a man like Liam North, was able to take under his wing a prodigy girl that is not related to him in any way. But that will undoubtedly change, as soon as he realizes that the years do not pass by in vain and little Samantha is not so little anymore.
The progression of their relationship, is perfect for the story. Skye doesn’t rush it. Instead, she makes you feel, in a unique way, what her words are capable off. But no matter how much you think you know what is going to happen, you’ll see that this is just the beginning of a hell of a ride you won’t forget.
As many people know they know I love me a Skye Warren book. And when I heard the blurb for Overture I knew I had to read it.
This story is sexy, taboo, full of angst with a fill of heart wrenching of emotions. Your heart strings will definitely be pulled with this one. You feel for Samantha and Liam.
Liam North, becomes her guardian when she was 12 after her father passed away. He want to protect her but in doing so he finds that what he wants to really protect her from his himself. Liam is dominant, strong and assertive, but even thought he wants to keep Samantha safe there is something about her the brings this man to his knees.
Samantha is a young girl about to turn 18, she plays the violin beautifully. And she’s considered a young child prodigy. She thinks she’s an adult and is really to take on the world as she gets ready to go on a world tour. She knows what she wants and that Liam.
This book is definitely taboo with the age gap, but it’s more then that. It’s a story of trying to do what you think of right when your heart tells you that you should do something different. It’s beautifully written and will have you hooked from start to finish. It’s filled with emotion, angst and many secrets and lies. Just be ready bc it ends in a bit of a cliffhanger. I definitely can’t wait to see what happens in book 2.
Well done Skye Warren! 5 stars !!
Holy smokes, Skye Warren has composed one hell of a symphony with Overture!! A story that took me on one hell of a crazy rollercoaster ride. I absolutely LOVED Overture!!! This story was everything i LOVE about forbidden romance, it’s sexy, deliciously taboo, with a perfectly told storyline that is absolutely haunting, and beautifully told. This book gives you all the emotional feels!
Samantha, the young woman loves her violin, has been playing her whole life after t
he death of her father, she goes to live with a much older man, Liam North.
Overture is a synchronized forbidden/taboo/age gap romance,. Skye Warren gives us perfectly flawed characters you will LOVE!!! Overture is another brilliantly told story. And I was completely BLOWN AWAY!! I ADORED Liam and Samantha’s story, and I can’t wait to see how this a story plays out in the next book!!!
This musical novel is utterly romantic and so unique! I absolutely LOVED Liam North, a taciturn Alpha male who takes in a young musical prodigy and takes care of her in a parental role until she turns eighteen and he begins to see her for the beautiful woman she is… another must read by Skye Warren!
