I began this book late last night and ended up reading straight through until 3am. I was totally enthralled with the story. Family, secrets, lies, forbidden feelings are just a small part of this emotional, heartwarming story. Liam is a hardened, military alpha who is broken deep inside and 16 years older than his ward Samantha. She is a beautiful, brilliant violin prodigy at 18 years old. Liam has been her guardian since she as 12. Skye Warren sent me on an emotional roller coaster ride until the end. I cannot wait to read the next story. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
When I started reading I couldn’t put it down.Skye Warren is magnifysent and amazing writer.I cannot wait to read more of there books.Keep up the great work. You should definitely read this book. Can’t wait for the next book.
Overture by Skye Warren
5 stars
I think Liam North just became my all time favorite ! This book was beautifully written. I loved the relationship between Sam and Liam, to me it seemed a natural progression not something taboo. Skye has written a beautiful story, one that will stay with me for a very long time. I have never listened to as much classical music as I did with this one but it seemed fitting. I’ll be depressed as I wait for Concerto!-
Oh My God this story..so heartwrenching!!
The story of a beautiful young girl who is in love with the man who took her in as a child, when she lost her Dad. Her brother did not want her. So Liam took her at 11 years old and took better care of her than her father ever did. She grows to love Liam but not in a fatherly way. Her name is Samantha and she is a child prodigy who plays the violin like it’s a part of her. Liam has his office near her and enjoys her music. We meet her when she is seventeen about to become a woman at 18 very soon. Liam is 16 years her senior but is in love with her also but he has is own demons to contend with. He believes that he can not return the love that she so desperately wants from him. She is about to go on tour but she would give it all up if Liam would say he wanted her to stay. This book put me through a roller coaster of emotions and was very, very difficult to put down. A lot of late night reading 😉 If you read Escort you will find out that she is Bea’s friend from that novel. This is one amazing but heartwrenching read. Skye Warren makes you feel the emotions of every character. She places you in the moments. I highly recommend this novel and any other novel she has written. By the way you can read this without reading Escort but if you do you will be wanting to read Escort too!!
I expected to enjoy this read, but I did not expect to be absolutely in love and obsessed with the future installments of this new series.
This starts out as a hot taboo story featuring Samantha and her guardian Liam, and quickly becomes a very sweet story with bits of heartbreak and mystery to spice it up. I will say, that I did not see the way this would end including the major plot twists at the very end. Normally this would bother me as I hate waiting for series installments but I really like in this case that a tidy ending was not forced, and so much room was left to cover next. I’ll definitely be waiting for the next one!
* I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy for an honest opinion.
Taboo, older guardian love story with all the feels. Lana~ White Hot Reads
Once again Skye knows how to write a story that brings all the emotions. Samantha Brooks is struggling with her feelings for Liam North and wants to do something about it. Liam North on the other hand is trying his hardest not to have feelings for Samantha. He knows that he should not be thinking about her like that but can’t help it. Liam’s has a fierce protection of over Samantha and will do anything to protect her. I can’t wait to see how it pans out.
Overture is a forbidden taboo. It’s the first book in Skyes new series.
Liam gets custody of Samantha when she’s twelve years old. He’s the the doting father figure in her life along with his brother’s Josh & Elijah.
Liam is harbouring secrets that Samantha needs answers to. Both are battling their demons from the past. Their chemistry is undeniable, but with the past lurking around, Samantha is in great danger, and Liam with stop at nothing to keep her safe .
From start to end, Skye has us feeling all sorts of emotions throughout the book. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next.
When you think about a gorgeous book cover with a violin on it you think it will be about something delicate and beautiful and sophisticated. That’s exactly what Overture is… until the nightmare then holy crap! I’m gasping for a breath I didn’t know I was holding. Things aren’t what they seem and everything changes!
Holy fudge the countdown to midnight and the scene after was scorching hot! I think I was engulfed in flames along with my kindle. Then the aftermath and oh my god the tears. The action and excitement! The shock!
The story had a slow start but out of no where I became hooked and couldn’t put it down until the very last page and even then I was swiping for more! I cannot wait for the next book! I’m dying!
From the synopsis you know the bare bones of the story you know Samantha is a violin prodigy and that Liam is her guardian. However that is only scratching the surface of this story. As with every book the author gives us it’s intricately crafted with twists and surprises. If you thought you were going to read a straight forward forbidden love story get ready for a complex and intense read.
This was forbidden raw passion, this was lust and love, this as betrayal and heartbreak. Only the author knows what happens next and I can’t wait to find out
I received a paperback ARC of this and I’m so glad I did. I loved every moment of it! I think it’s even better than Escort. There were so many great moments in this story and the interaction between Liam and Samantha was perfect. It was just as it should be. I loved how protective Liam was towards her. When I got to the end I was sad because I wanted more. Now I have to wait until the next book. I’m looking forward to it!
OH. My. God. Skye Warren does NOT know how to write a bad book and her latest is just proof of that. Overture is full of suspense, heartache, lust and love. I could not put this book down and was reading along in the world of violins and hunky men when BAM! Out of the blue the book ended with a most spectacular cliff hanger. I can not wait for Concerto to be released. Overture is so well written that I swear I could hear Samantha playing the classical music as I was reading. Overture is Carnegie Hall and I give it 5-stars.
Samantha Brooks is a child violin prodigy. After the death of her father she becomes the ward of Liam North the founder of North Securities. Surrounded my ex-military men and living on a compound in Texas, life is safe and secure. Samantha is counting down the last few days until she turns eighteen and leaves to go on tour, which means she will also have to leave the man she has fallen in love with. Liam knows that keeping Samantha at the compound is wrong and he also knows that the feelings he has for her go way past that of guardian and ward. Samantha wants Liam in ways that only a woman can want a man, but that is one Overture that she does not know how to write. How can she get Liam to see her as an adult and not as child, as a woman that is in love with him? With hidden dangers waiting in the shadows and a love that is forbidden, Samantha knows the only way to get Liam to understand her for the woman she has become, is to leave the safe, secure compound and go out on her own. It’s for the best that Samantha leaves, but Liam’s not sure he can handle living without her, and if she leaves who’s to say that those who are out to get her won’t succeed?
Wow! This book was so much more than I was expecting. I knew I would love it as Skye is a one click author for me. But I didn’t know just how much.
Liam and Samantha are the kind of age gap, complicated, taboo love story I adore. Add in a whole bunch of intrigue and suspense and you’ve got a book I couldn’t read fast enough. Absolutely cannot wait for book 2!
Some consider Samantha Brooks a musical child prodigy. She just wants to turn eighteen and go on tour. Liam North has raised Samantha since he became her legal guardian 6 years ago. He always kept it professional between them considering he was so young himself to raise a practical stranger. However once she became an adult those lingering feelings he suppressed became harder to resist. Can they keep it how it was between them or will their true feelings be to hard to fight? This is the first book in this new series and I enjoyed it immensely! A delicious taboo treat! I hope you fall for Liam North like I did. Told in dual POV; ends in a cliffhanger
Samantha and Liam had crazy hot chemistry between the two. I loved the dynamic. A bit of mystery and suspense with a lot of hotness thrown in was fantastic! I definitely wanted more and look forward to the next book!!
I knew as soon as I started I would absolutely adore this book. Skye Warren has the ability to pull you in right from the start.
Liam is a lost and broken soul. He refuses to see what life could be like with the right person to help get you there. Samantha is a naïve young woman who is very talented, but has no idea what the real word is really like. The emotions that both feel for each other would have some thinking is wrong. He is her guardian and she is the ward he took on at the age of 12 after her father died. As her eighteenth birthday approaches they both are faced with their emotions and how they really feel for each other. The web of secrets and deceit begin to unravel and things from the past are coming back to haunt them. I can not wait to see just how the rest of the story unfolds in the next installment.
Liam and Samantha’s relationship is very complicated. They both appear to be opposites. He is so controlled, cold, and strict. She is all emotion as she plays her violin and dreams about her future. He is secretly very attracted to her, but she is his ward and underage. He also holds a secret about how her father died that prevents him from becoming closer to her.
As Samantha approaches her eighteenth birthday and adulthood, she begins to gain control of her life in preparation for her upcoming concert tour. She is tentative as she attempts to gain information from Liam and gain his love. All she wants is for him to promise her he will miss her, always welcome her back with open arms, and perhaps be her pen pal as she travels the world. Liam cannot handle this. Our story becomes more and more complex, as the truth comes out and our characters must come to accept the changes about to happen.
This is bound to be another excellent series from this author. I can hardly wait for the next installment!
I am voluntarily reviewing this book. Thanks to the author for sharing a copy with me.
LOVE SKYE!!! She never fails to blow me away. Overture doesn’t fail! Liam took custody of Samantha after her father died. He protected her and wanted to keep her childhood a happy one. But living in the same house as Liam was never easy for Samantha. She had to grow up at a very young age and didn’t want Liam to see her as a little girl anymore. She was leaving soon to go on her Violin tour, but she wants to get Liam to open his mind and his heart to her before she goes.
Skye brings in some of her past characters in this wonderful book and I am guessing and hoping they will all be joined even more as this series continues.
Skye Warren’s books always hit me so hard and Overture gets a 5-star rating. Her words dance across the pages, luring you in, enticing you to become part of the story. A relationship between Liam and Samantha is forbidden and taboo but also so perfectly natural. Not only has Skye given us an age gap romance, but she has also thrown in a little ‘daddy issue’ into the mix. The classical music references throughout the story add a poetic symphony into the relationship.
Liam North is the perfect alpha, protective and possessive and full of self-control. Like all good alphas, he knows what he wants is so wrong but loving Samantha feels so right. Their journey is a dance of sexual tension that made my heartstrings sing. The emotional torture that Liam endures made me love him even more.
Samantha is young but she has lived more than most her age. She has grown into her womanhood after experiencing how cruel the world really can be. Liam saved her, protected her, and now she wants him to love her. Her music draws him to her, but will it keep him mesmerized enough to stay.
I also need to mention how wonderful her side characters are. They all brought the story together, made it more than just Liam and Samantha’s, they made it whole. Samantha’s friends Laney and Cody provided the reminder of Samantha’s age. Their high-school antics while they stick together for the better good, made me smile while I shook my head. The North brothers are also fiercely loyal but hold nothing back when it comes to expressing their opinions. All of these characters brought a true sense of reality to the story. I loved Josh’s sense of humor and Elijah’s protectiveness of Samantha.
Skye has a writing style that I adore. She puts my mind to work while she feeds my soul with a beautifully written romance. Nothing is ever served up on a platter for her characters. They always have to ride an emotional roller coaster to get to their happy ending and that journey is what makes me love her books so much. Overture is another example of the amazing things Skye can do to a book and to your heart. She sets the stage for part two with shocking surprises in the final pages, leaving the reader wanting and needing more of the story that is Liam and Samantha’s. I loved this book and I will be first in line to read Concerto. It can’t come soon enough.
Liam and Samantha, they are, well, they are both broken. Not a little, but more than they should be. Because of their fathers. Because of their childhoods. Because life just isn’t giving them any breaks along the way. Even as fate put them together, they continue the damage. To each other. Not maliciously, not with intent t harm. With intent to protect. To protect themselves, from the other. To protect the other, from themselves. And then it all becomes clear. The truth doesn’t always set you free. Sometimes the truth makes you lose everything you want. Everything you hold dear, need to live. Sometimes, the truth hurts, and makes you a target. Luckily, the truth is being held back by Liam, even when Samantha thinks she has it all figured out
Thrilling, yet quiet. Sweet, yet shrouded. Soothing, yet heart pound. This story weaves, twists, and turns, but it stays in one spot. Loved it, and the end came too quickly, was too surprising, and sucked the air out of the room when it was revealed. It has left me in high anxiety wanting the next book, and the conclusion!
Overture is a forbidden story of Samantha and her guardian, Liam. She is a musical child prodigy when Liam took her in when her father mysteriously died. Samantha has questions that only Liam can answer. The story is sexy, emotional and so good. I love the little musical tidbits before each chapter. Another brilliant story from Skye Warren.
