Forget everything you think you know about sensuality. You will re-learn every sense of it with this tale.
Where are the 10 stars? My goodness, I feel stingy by giving this book only 5 😀
Elegant writing, passion for music and a confessional tone underline this most beautiful romance infused with the perfume of the forbidden.
I tend to gravitate to musical or artistic themes in novels, so I couldn’t believe my luck when one of my beloved authors, SW, announced her next creation to happen between a violin prodigy and her military guardian. If that doesn’t thrum with dark notes of pleasure and angst, nothing does!
I marvel at the richness and complexity of these two characters falling in love that defies convention, reason or decency. Yet they fight against it with broken hearts. The writing is beautifully nuanced with emotion and honesty. Liam is tortured by his own nature full of shadows and secrets, tempted beyond endurance by the innocence of his ward. I felt goosebumps every time they shared an emotion while denying themselves the freedom to indulge it.
It is such a beauty of a romance to read. Perfectly tuned, a harmony of opposite forces as young Samantha finds her voice in a cacophony of doubts and fears, and the steel-willed guardian protects her from hidden enemies, from his basic lusts that never feel too much even when they are.
What takes this story into a place of its own is the levels it touches. Love, lust, but loneliness too, belonging and growing up, and the cyclopean strength required to set free what you love the most.
This has aroused my senses and my mind in ways I thought long dormant. I felt pure longing for this couple to find their broken happiness together. It ends on a plot twist that’s going to turn Concerto into a craving. I know I must have it. I must!
Overture by Skye Warren is the story of Liam North and Samantha Brooks.
Liam took in Samantha when she was around 12 years and became her legal guardian. Now Samantha is turning 18 years old and will be off on tour for her music. Samantha has feelings that go beyond a guardian for Liam and is torn between them. Liam knows it is wrong to feel the way he does for Samantha especially with the secrets he keeps.
For me this was a page turner…I am such a fan of Ms. Warren’s writing. I just loved this book and looking for more book by this author.
Overture by Skye Warren is the very definition of taboo and will have you turning pages late into the night.
We’ve barely begun to scratch the surface of what’s happening with these brothers and I’m all buckled up for the journey. Liam, Josh and Elijah take protective, alpha male to a whole new level. All of them suffering under the weight of the baggage that was their childhood, serving and protecting their only form of redemption.
Overture is Liam and Samantha’s story, taboo relationship by the very definition that had me squirming in my seat a little. I’m still not really sure how I feel about their love match, but I have to say these two are the epitome of the word stubborn.
If you’re not a fan of cliffies, this one will leave you dangling and a little heartbroken, I’m ready for more.
Can love be restricted by age or labels dictated by society? When two imperfect souls find solace and reprieve in each other, it cannot be wrong because everyone thinks so. Life needs support and friendship. And heart can see love in the most difficult yet appropriate person. Overture by Skye Warren is a story of such love. Where love means protection, redemption and solidarity.
I have almost no boundaries while reading different romance trope. Overture by Skye Warren deals with something I have difficulty with sometimes. Age gap romance. Liam North became the legal guardian of Samantha Brooks at age of 12 after the mysterious death of her father. They didn’t know each other at all before that. Liam took her under wings and protected her. She is a violin prodigy and Liam supported her arts. Now she is almost 18 and ready to leave for world tour with world renowned artists. May be it is the impending separation or may be the hormones of a woman trapped in a girl’s body, Samantha starts having sinful and forbidden thoughts about her guardian. Liam, ex special force and owner of North Security is dark, dangerous, brooding and most importantly always in control. But his feeling for Samantha is getting out of control. Samantha has a shielded life in North Tower and now she wants to explore the world. She wants to explore Liam. They both know it is taboo and probably wrong. But it becomes inevitable when two persons find light in each other and they need the light to slay their demons. But Liam has to let her go. Samantha is an innocent, brilliant and talented girl. She has no place in the evil world of Liam. They have too many secrets and forces working against them. And we leave the couple heartbroken and destroyed in the end. This is a series so the story continues in next book!
The whole story is like a well synchronized orchestra. The push and pull between Samantha and Liam flows like well tuned music. Their relationship is like a sensual dance. They have this intense need to be just together. The crescendo and fall of the emotions were amazing. The story has elements of surprise and mystery woven with unadulterated lust and passion. Secrets whisper behind the walls of North Towers and the author left me hanging with a devastating one at the end. The writing is simply beautiful and expressive. Skye Warren brings out the best and worst of all the characters with ease. She created a slow, believable and comfortable change in relationship dynamics. I didn’t cringe or feel awkward as Liam and Samantha crossed boundaries. On the contrary this felt almost holy. The chemistry of bodies and minds along with the musical overtone made this an unique story.
Skye Warren is a master story teller. She writes an epic and exquisite tale of forbidden love and burning passion in Overture. This story is about broken souls getting healed by power of trust and loyalty. I never wanted it to end and I know the wait for the next book will be pure torture!
RECEIVED ARC FOR HONEST REVIEW.
A book of opposites
I’m just going to say…..buy this book….OMG what a story!
Samantha is a child prodigy and after her father died, she is taken in by Liam North as his ward, even though they are not related by blood. She is close to leaving on a tour around the world, but before that happens she first has to graduate from high school, have her 18th birthday and then the tour can start. But as she gets closer to the time, she doesn’t want to be the good girl anymore who follows orders and she especially doesn’t want to leave the compound where Liam is
Liam is the owner of a business that specialises in dangerous missions around the world, in short a group of mercenaries. As Samantha’s birthday approaches, Liam feels more guilt around why he took her in, feels more for her period…..so not as a guardian should for a ward under his care.
This book feels like a book of opposites…but a book that will keep you engrossed in what happens next and will ensure you keep turning the pages until the last note is played
Thank you to Skye for my advanced copy for which I leave my honest review and I can’t wait for more
He is her guardian, he’s off limits but she desires him more with each passing day.
He aches for her also, just one taste. She was always more than his charge, though she never knew it.
Age is but a number, does it matter whether there’s six or sixteen years age gap between them?
The music she plays comes from her heart and soul.
He lost his during his childhood. Can she help him reclaim what it rightfully his?
What did I just read!! Oh my gosh!!
Tension, Angst, Drama, Suspence, it has it all!
There’s so much more to this than what you first see. Look beneath the notes and you will be as gripped and tortured as I was!
Many a moment of “Omg..nooo” followed by thoughts of seeing if my phone could fly.
Frustration at wanting and getting two different things, but at the same time needing it as it is.. I loved how Skye knew what I needed. She got it beyond perfect!
Samantha is innocence like a baby bird. Needing comfort, and protection to both survive and unlock her true potential.
Liam is so uptight, and formal. His feelings locked away securely.
They make for one hell of a read. Their connection so intense yet true.
I need the next book now and I’m prepared to beg for it!
Skye Warren truly is a masterful author. Her books are well written and the characters are always engaging. I’m a huge fan of dark romances so naturally, when I’m in the mood for something a little darker, I turn to Skye Warren and a few other authors. Overture is something different than most dark romances because it adds a more taboo relationship between a guardian and his ward. This is something that I just couldn’t really get into.
I loved both of the main characters. Samantha is a fascinating prodigy and Liam is the definition of wounded alpha male. I typically love stories with a hero like this but I truly struggled to get into the romance aspect of this book.
Though I didn’t get into the romance aspect of this book, I loved the suspense of it. The plot was unique and it did keep me reading and wondering what was going to come next. This book was intriguing and I loved that it kept me interested even though I wasn’t feeling the romance in it. It’s rare that I read a romance that keeps me reading just for the plot.
All in all, I’m rating this 4 Caffeinated Stars because the plot was suspenseful and the entire book was well written. Even though I wasn’t a fan of the taboo nature of the book, it couldn’t take away from how well written it was.
**I received this book in exchange for an honest review**
In this story, we have Samantha, who is a young 17 yr old girl, who is almost 18, and she is also a child violin music prodigy. Samantha is ready to graduate high school in a few short months. Then she will be off to perform in a musical tour, around the US to start with and maybe the world next. So much happening in the next few months for her.
Samantha was orphaned when she was 12 yrs old, when her father, a US Ambassadors died. Her mother had died when she was younger.
Liam North, a military security man step in and took over guardianship of Samantha. He knew what a special gift she had of being a child prodigy. He took her in and became her protector. Liam is about 15 yrs old than Samantha. Liam has 2 younger brothers, who he was also raising – even though they were older than the 12 yr old girl they have just gained guardianship over.
Liam owns and operates a military type security agency. They are located in an area close to Austin, Texas. Liam has never had a girlfriend since he has brought Samantha into his life. She is now his responsibility.
While this is a forbidden/age gap romance, Ms. Skye Warren turns on us in that, Liam North is dominant, strong and assertive but there is something about Samantha, his beautiful, delicate violin prodigy. Samantha has power over him that no one has, which brings this hardened soldier to his knees.
I did receive ARC copy of this book. I am freely leaving an honest review.

3.5/4 stars
Great story about taboo lust. I really enjoyed the build up between Liam and Samantha. I don’t want to say anything because I want it all to be a surprise, but know that this leaves you wanting more. I need the next book so I can see what happens once Samantha goes on tour. (Review by Terri “Jane”)
A beautifully orchestrated taboo romance brimming with angst and heart-shattering moments. A story not to be missed!
Liam North will become an instant alpha favorite as he battles with the lust and passion he has simmering below the surface for Samantha. A devastating plot of mystery, taboo love, anguish and heart’s torment as these two find love in a place considered forbidden.
Bravo to Skye for writing another unputdownable story! Liam has risen to the top of my Alpha list and Samantha is like no other heroine I’ve read. Her innocence and strong conviction to follow her heart is unmatched
This book is so deliciously taboo I loved every second of it.
4.5 stars
Erotic, sensual story of a musical prodigy and her guardian
Skye Warren has created a very erotic and sensual story about a musical prodigy and her guardian. She weaves tidbits about the great musical masters into this new series that explores the relationship between a child violist prodigy and her guardian. The story begins when Samantha is almost eighteen, nearing graduation from high school and will shortly embark on a world tour with other classical musicians, being responsible for herself for the first time.
Liam North has been Samantha’s guardian since she was twelve and he was twenty-eight, taking on the responsibility for a very scared, insecure girl upon her father’s death. What would motivate an ex-military, running a black-ops for hire firm with his brothers to take on this responsibility?
The story explores the change In Samantha’s and Liam’s relationship in the months before her tour starts. At the same time information about Samantha’s father starts to reveal her father might be a traitor and she is at risk because others believe she might know or remember something.
As part of the ‘taboo’ relationship, Skye considers when ‘almost’ eighteen is close enough for guardian/ward relationship change . A month, a week or hours from the milestone birthday? Or never.
I rated this at 4.5 stars because is a short story that has a cliff hanger. This could easily be a series about each of the North brothers, with an HEA for each and a continuing plot throughout the series, similar to her Stripped series.
3.5 Stars
Overture definitely pushed all my buttons. It gets you out of your comfort zone reading with this taboo forbidden romance. So many risky situations that you are not sure what will happen next. Did I think I would end up liking this story, at first I was uncertain. I love Skye Warren’s writing. I was trying my hardest to get past about some circumstances that were part of the “forbidden romance” part. As the end neared, you start to uncover some truths. The why’s and how’s blend together with this forbidden melody.
I enjoyed all the musical quotes/facts with the beginning of each chapter. It brings you closer for the love of music. I was intrigued enough at the end to see what will be coming with the second book. I really love Liam and Samantha. I just need to love them as a couple. I think that is where I will get to with the second book as they grow into different rolls.
**5 Stars***
The blurb was the hook.
I read it and I knew I had to find out more because I do love me some taboo/forbidden login’ and this baby delivered in spades. It was sensual, sexy and heartbreaking and that ending has me wishing the next book was waiting on the Kindle already because I NEED to know what will happen next!
I adored Liam and Samantha. Liam is hard, sometimes cold and has so many layers of Kevlar surrounding his heart you’d think he wasn’t human…and yet he is so starkly human it hurts because he cares deeply but only sees it as a weakness. Samantha has been sheltered and has her moments of naïveté but she’s also solid in a way that makes her more mature than most realize and has heart that is more empathetic than most can understand.
Their journey, thus far, is quite rough, though don’t see that changing in the near future for them considering the circumstances of their relationship and where things left off at the end of the book. But I really liked them together. They have a flow that goes beyond the whole guardianship thing and a connection that goes beyond words.
This is my very first read by the author and I’m so happy I finally had the opportunity to dive into her words because I’m hooked. The writing was engaging, the pacing good and I enjoyed the dual first person POV’s and I really like how she had the forbidden aspect of their relationship play out and evolve. As for the supporting cast of characters, I really liked all of them and will hopefully get to know not only Josh and Elijah better, but Laney and Cody as well!

I was lucky enough to win an ARC of Overture and I finished it last night. Let me just say that it is sweet music to your soul. I absolutely loved it and can’t wait to see what happens in the next book. If you love taboo with a little suspense, a sexy alpha and a sweet girl then this story is definitely for you.
Heart pounding, heart stopping roller coaster ride! Overture takes us on a wild ride of emotions. I know when I get ready to start reading a Skye Warren book, I am going on an emotional journey that ends with my mouth hanging open thinking, “OMG! OMG! What did I just read?!”
Nothing is easy and some isn’t as it seems. There are extenuating circumstances and complicated situations. Overture is a forbidden romance with an age gap. Skye Warren does a wonderful job of weaving a tale of forbidden love. Her words jump off the page and grab you, pulls on your heartstrings, and keeps you hanging onto every word from start to finish. I fell in love with her characters. There is something about them both that tugs on the heartstrings. It does end in a cliffhanger but I would highly recommend reading it!!! It is more than worth your time! I love Skye’s books and this one is no exception. I am anxiously awaiting the release of Concerto! I know Skye will blow us away once again!

This story is deep and intense. I wasn’t expecting a cliff hanger but I cannot wait for the next read. This story I felt we really got to understand Samantha. I feel like I got a glimpse of Liam and more will come in the next story. This story laid the basis and I’m on edge. It’s going to be intense and I want more between Liam and Samantha. Can’t wait !
I loved this taboo read. I loved how protective Liam is of Samantha. Samantha tries to understand him. His childhood was horrific. I cried thru those scenes…
