A fantastic, captivating story filled with heartache, flirtatious banter, wit, and insta-love. Brenden is a playboy, musician who irritates and is irritated by Lauren. Lauren is on a break from guys due to past heartache. Overtones is a witty story about two people with an instant connection as well as heartache due to choosing different life dreams and not feeling a long distance relationship can work. Jerica MacMillan creates great stories with so much heart, emotion, and finding what’s really important to these characters. Wonderful characters readers will fall in love with. I can’t wait to read what’s in store next for Brenden and Lauren.
The banter between Braeden and Lauren was off the charts. I would be laughing so hard one second and swooning the next. They decide to up and travel across the country together, while this would be a horrible idea for most because let’s face it road trips are a great way to either become close to someone or want toss them out of the car, and they only knew each other in passing it seemed like a crazy idea. This ended up being a great idea for them because they did have a connection and chemistry that ended up being scorching hot. I loved that we got both Braeden and Lauren’s point of view because it showed us how deep their connection really was even though they both tried to fight it like crazy. This is book one of their story but book two comes out soon and I can not wait to see what happens because these two have become a favorite of mine.
I love this series and we finally get Lauren’s story and find out more about Brendan (Jonathan’s brother). Lauren appears to be a happy, flirty person and that is all that people see. However, she is more complex and we get to find out who the true Lauren is beside being the best friend and confidant for Gabby and Charlie. Lauren and Brendan out of the blue and Jonathan and Gabby’s wedding that they were going on a road trip to NYC so that Lauren can ice skate at Rockfeller Center! The road trip brings out who these 2 people really are and we get to watch them find out who each other are and watch them figure out how to handle the chemistry between them. Lauren and Brendan fall for each other but had already agree that this trip was a one time thing and they could be friends with benefits until their trip is over. Obviously things change along the way but they can’t figure out what to do, especially since they live in separate states and are at different points in their lives. I can’t wait for the next book to find out what happens with these 2 people and if they can figure what they truly want in life and take the chance to go after it.
I’ve always enjoyed Lauren, a key supporting character in prior installments of Jerica MacMillan’s Songs and Sonatas series. I always figured that she had to have s backstory that explained her personality and that made her complex and interesting. Well, now, in Overtones (Book 6), Lauren finally gets her turn. Her romance with Brendan (who has also appeared previously) is a really well told story that’s both layered and fun. Frankly, my only criticism of this book is that it’s the first in a two part story arc. I really hate waiting for a story that I’ve invested so much in to continue. Other than that, and but for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed, I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to Reverb, the next book in this series (and conclusion of this particular duet), which is scheduled to be coming on March 25.
When Lauren needs to get rid of a guy at her best friend Gabby’s wedding party, she didn’t expect Brendan, the fiancé’s brother, to become her fairy godmother.
Despite the misunderstandings at the beginning, when Brendan offered to take Lauren to NY to ice skate at the Rockfekller Center, he didn’t expect the attraction and feelings that come along the way.
Their road trip is full of chemistry and they get to know each other deeply, but when Lauren’s trip needs to be stopped and they need to say goodbye before planned, how will be the feelings that have come between them?
I loved the story and the ending made me anxious for the next book.
I highly recommend the reading.
I received a copy and voluntarily left a review and all opinions are my own.
From the moment I read Jerica MacMillan’s book Summer Fling, I have fallen hard for her writing. I didn’t think I could fall anymore until I began reading about her hot musical geniuses in her Songs and Sonatas series on their road to fame and love and I was left waiting for their next duet full of angst, crescendos, and unparalleled ecstasy. She is kept my heart and libido in overdrive with these amazing characters who are wrapped up in pursuing their musical careers whether it be through classical music or pop, little do these heroes and heroines know that they will find love along the way. Jerica sets her readers on another journey with a couple that will have our hearts skating around more than the Rockefeller center and will leave us panting and waiting to see where they will take us in the next book.
I was so over the moon excited when I found out that Jerica was going to finally let us dive more deeply into Lauren who has amazed and intrigued me through many other books in the series and find out more about her. She kept me laughing and wondering what made her tick and what would come out of her mouth next. She always kept me on my toes, as just a side character in the stories and I couldn’t wait to see her make her debut and star as the awesome heroine that she is. Can you tell that I am just a little bit smitten with Lauren? Is it that evident? After getting know her better, I am still just as in love with her and am anxious to experience more of the heat between her and Brendan.
Since Jerica has begin introducing the gorgeous, scrumptious Brasher brothers, they have been starring in my boy band fantasies and I am always ready and willing to meet another of the Brasher boys up close and personal. So when I knew that Lauren was going to get all twisted up in the sheets with Brendan Basher, I had the popcorn and cold beverage ready because I knew things were going to get hot and interesting fast! Having met ALL of Jerica’s heroes, I would have to say that Brendan is one of her dirtiest talking book boyfriends yet. He knows how to romance a girl with his whimsical trip to make her dreams come true, charm her, and keep her hot and bothered. What more could Lauren or a reader ask for?
Jerica MacMillan delivers a scorching tale of love found on a spontaneous road trip that leads to so much more than what these two characters bargained for. I highly recommend Overtones for a romance that will leave you breathless and wanting more and more. Of course Jerica has to leave our hearts hanging on a precipice waiting for this couple to come together again in her upcoming book Reverb and consume us with their passion and make us fall just a little bit harder for their brand of steam and love.
I’ve loved this series from the start but this couple is my all time favorite. There is so much heat between Lauren and Brendan, it just leaps off the pages.. I so want more of Brendan and his dirty mouth. Lauren is one lucky girl and I can’t wait to see what’s next for them.
Overtones
By Jerica MacMillan
Main Characters: Lauren and Brendan
I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author.
5 out of 5 stars
This is part 1 of a 2 book series. Next is Reverb. Love Lauren and her no filter mouth. And Brendan is the drummer in the band Brash. They talk and flirt at their friends wedding and the next thing you know the two of them are on a road trip to New York. They both agree to a no strings fling, but you know how those agreements can turn out. There is plenty of sex, chemistry and emotions throughout. Love Jerica’s writing. The only thing that would have made it better was if I knew more about music. Highly recommend.
Once again I am obsessed with one of Jerica MacMillan’s books! After reading the other 5 in the Songs and Sonatas series, I was so excited to finally read Lauren’s story! Lauren and Brendan are just perfect and their chemistry is off the charts. Overtones will have you laughing one minute and swooning the next. I loved the banter between the two. I can’t wait for the rest of the story!
I just went cross country and loved every minute in the car with Brendan and Lauren. Overtones was funny, sweet, with great banter, misunderstandings and great sexual tension. It all starts when Lauren needs help from a drunk guy at her friend’s wedding trying to get her to his room. As her and Brendan, her lifesaver and friend’s new brother-in-law continue to talk she mentions her secret desire to go skating in Rockefeller Center. Next thing he suggests is a road trip to make it happen. Lauren is funny, outgoing and you never know what she will say next. I have loved her all along as Gabby’s friend and couldn’t wait for her story. This can be read as a standalone if you haven’t read the others but why??? Brendan is quiet but once he starts talking let the dirt flow. He also shows her he’s a gentleman with how he treats Lauren on their trip. The chemistry throughout the road trip had me turning pages. I could not get enough of these two and can’t wait for the next book. All I can say is this series just keeps surprising me with each book – I can’t pick a favorite.
I loved the journey that Lauren and Brendan go on and include us. This couple is spontaneous and adventurous. The writing and flow were perfect. The scenery had me feeling like I was in the car with these two. Let me back up. Brendan is the brother of Jonathan who we met in Double Exposition. He’s not looking for love and is happy with his life. However, he is intrigued by one of the bridesmaids at his brother’s wedding. After saving her and suggesting an offer he doesn’t expect her to jump on, their journey begins. I loved Overtones because we get to know this couple and fall in love with them.
