Can true love prevail against prejudice and deceit? After a bitter betrayal, Dawson Blackhorse won’t allow anyone to run roughshod over his heart again…especially not the woman he was once foolish enough to trust. The rodeo circuit gave Dawson an escape after his racist boss ran him off. Hank Bartell made it clear no man who was part-Navajo, would buy his ranch or court his daughter. In a single … or court his daughter. In a single moment, the man destroyed every one of Dawson’s dreams.
But when the rodeo brings him to the tiny mountain town of Sawyer, Idaho, he comes face to face with everything he lost.
For nine years, Chloe Bartell hasn’t been able to forget the man who abandoned her. Especially not when she looks into the eyes of their son.
The quiet life Chloe leads in the small town of Sawyer is shattered the day Dawson comes to compete in the rodeo. He’s everything she remembers and more. Gorgeous. Muscular. Six foot and change of sexy cowboy. She watches helplessly as he comes face to face with the son he never knew he had. Dawson demands answers but Chloe is determined to keep her distance. When sparks fly, the fire they ignite threatens to burn down the walls she’s built around her broken heart.
Will the pain and loss of their past drive them apart for good? Or can they forgive each other and build a new life, a life they always dreamed of…
Overdue for Love is the sixth novella in the Long Valley world, although all books in the Long Valley world can be read as standalones. It has some strong language, and oh my, sexy times. Enjoy!

I really enjoyed reading about Chloe and how much she has grown since the beginning of the book. When she was young and barely legal she was throwing herself at Dawson without thinking of the consequences it could mean with her father. She was written as desperate and selfish and this bugged me.
However when we meet up with her again, she is a hard worker, loyal friend and wonderful mother. Being forced to grow up looks good on her. I really liked this Chloe. She was determined, resourceful and not willing to give up or give in to her father. I loved watching her with Dawson. He had hurt her and she was careful and cautious with him concerning her son.
I really liked Dawson in this book. Even though he was angry the first chunk of the book, he had every right to be. First with Chloe’s father and then Chloe. He left that ranch and became something on the rodeo circuit and now he wants to put down roots. Walking into a diner might have been the best thing for him.
I loved how quickly and passionately Dawson took to being a father. He knew right away that Tommy was his and from that very moment, his life changed. He knew where he wants to be and who he wanted to be with.
Dawson Blackhorse works at the Bartell Ranch and has been working, and paying to one day own the Ranch. He needs to stay away from Chloe Bartell. She’s a temptation that he must resist! When Dawson finds out that Hank Dawson pulls the rug out from under Dawson feet, that he’s backing out of the deal. Hank not only returned Dawson’s money plus interest, he informed Dawson about Chloe’s upcoming wedding to another man. He took his anger out on Chloe and left. Fast forward 9-years later Dawson runs into Chloe in a diner that she works at.
My feelings went from anger, to disappointment, to anticipation and happiness with how Dawson and Chloe reconnected. A great quick read about hardworking individuals who discover love where they never expected to find it.
I volunteered to review an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
Just love it when a plan comes together.
This is a yummy second chance romance that begins with two betrayals of the worst kind. Then nine years later, Dawson and Chloe have a chance meeting at a diner and Dawson comes face-to-face with the result of his betrayal against Chloe. You will have to read to see if Dawson and Chloe can forgive past hurts and forge a new love that will lead to the forever family they both need.
Dawson & Chloe shared one time together and disappeared from each other’s lives. Nine years later, while on the rodeo circuit Dawson runs smack dab into Chloe….and their son. Determined to be part of his son’s life, Dawson decides to stay put.
This is a second chance romance with perfectly flawed characters. Perfect for curling up in your favorite chair and escaping for a little bit.
This book is a tale of love lost. It gives you faith in a possible future for those of us who have experienced something similar. Once again the lack of communication plays a huge role in the problems experienced. Lessons learned.
Not a bad book. Short and to the point. I was hoping for more angst considering the premise.
Good short book.
An entertaining afternoon read! Wonderful characters and entertaining storyline make the pages fly by.
Predictable but enjoyable
Outstanding great read. It is certainly worth reading. You’ll enjoy this book very much. This book should be at the top of your list. Love the forever ending.
Loved the characters.
This was an easy read. No real plot twists or turns. The characters were likable. I’d recommend this for a quick escape and HEA.
Double happily ever after
This is an interesting story of second chances between a couple. Reading went quick. I am almost finished & enjoyed the romance.
Very nice light read!
Sweet novella that was predictable. Great characters like Chloe, Dawson, Tommy, and Ruby. Erin has written quite a few books. So if you like this one, there are lots more to read.
Loved this series
Opens with the cowboy getting pissed and raping the ranch owner’s daughter. When he runs into her 9 years later, he gets her drunk to get her to have sex with him. aka Date Rape. Other than those two unnecessary problems with the story, it was pretty good. an ok love story.
A delightful second chances love story, Overdue for Love touches all the right spots. Born out of betrayal the book speaks of the fires of attraction that burned between Chloe and Dawson although never acted upon, until the fateful night when Chloe’s father drops his bombshell – that the ranch Dawson had been working so hard towards, has been whipped out from under his feet. When Chloe’s father tells him that she is shortly due to marry a wealthy neighbour, anger burns in Dawson’s chest. Anyone who has been betrayed by someone they trusted can identify with the hurt, shock and deep sense of betrayal that Dawson experienced. Adding fuel to the fire, Chloe once again flirts with Dawson, and thinking that she is using him in the same way her father has, Dawson takes advantage of her offer. When Dawson walks into the diner where Chloe is working 9 years later, the arc of attraction between them is once more electric and the reader is drawn into the simmer and then burn that sparks between them. This is a passionate love story, leaving one rooting for the star crossed lovers and trusting for a hopeful outcome. A most enjoyable novel. I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest and voluntary review.
