“Dr. Botox” to the bored rich women of Chicago, plastic surgeon Max Jordan is shocked by his son Joshua’s decision to focus his medical degree and talent on Haitian orphans. Embittered by Joshua’s sudden death, Max searches for resolution in the place his son called home—an orphanage outside of Port au Prince. The selflessness of Joshua’s coworkers stuns Max. He is particularly taken with … with American volunteer Valerie Austin, whose dream of a tropical honeymoon has been crushed, replaced by a stint working in the impoverished orphanage. But Valerie’s view of Joshua’s sacrifice—and her own—challenges everything Max knows. Have the doors to his gilded cage finally opened to a freedom he’s never known?

It was excellent
love all of Deborah Raney’s books – great message in all of her books – faith building
Highly recommended.
Wonderfully written story including difficult, sensitive topics. A great encouragement for anyone that has experienced those life tragedies. The only negative was the blunt ending. Even though it was on a positive note. The last chapter wrapped up much too quickly with too few details.
Love, love, love Deborah Raney’s books! I usually delete most of the books I get because I get so many, but hers stay in my Kindle collection.
Great story with great characters.
I found this story to be very rewarding; it was a realistic story of a non-Christian father who lost his Christian son and had never had the opportunity to fix a real argument they had prior to his death. So there were feelings of guilt, anger and a real search for answers. Very moving story to me.
Great read! I would highly recommend this book. I could not put it down. Great characters. Very informative.
This book was absolutely wonderful and hard to put down! Beautiful story of self realization and self sacrifice.
I really enjoyed it. Was worried for a while that it wasn’t going to turn out the way I wanted it to, so it definitely kept me reading into the night. Thank goodness it ended up the way I wanted it to.
Loved this book! Enjoy her writing- gentle romance with a great eye opener on Haiti. But written with compassion and grace about the people there. I want to read more by this author.
Moving story which makes you appreciate the things you take for granted as you read about conditions in Haiti. Some character changes though seemed a bit far fetched
Great christian love story
This is, again, another good book from Deborah Raney. Love the Christian through-line & story!
This was an insight into the plight of orphans in Haiti and the selfless service by some Christians. A promising young doctor, however, died with something that could probably been healed had there been better care. A year later his father visited to make sense of it in his mind, while totally rejecting God. It is an interesting struggle and a look at what it means to follow Christ.
The story of working as missionaries was really informative. I enjoyed the educational portions plus the budding romance in the book too. And I always love a good ending!
Deborah Raney is one of my favorite authors and never disappoints. I especially loved the part where the main character realizes God has answered her prayer in a different way.
I took a mission trip in the Mts. Of Haiti 9 years ago and Raney captures the people so well. Reading the unfolding story is comforting to me. I can read romance with conflict knowing it will be faith filled and clean when written by Deborah Raney.
An inspirational book about a young woman changing course after a failed romance. Going God’s way is always best.
Anything Deborah Raney writes is amazing and this book didn’t disappoint
