“Dr. Botox” to the bored rich women of Chicago, plastic surgeon Max Jordan is shocked by his son Joshua’s decision to focus his medical degree and talent on Haitian orphans. Embittered by Joshua’s sudden death, Max searches for resolution in the place his son called home—an orphanage outside of Port au Prince. The selflessness of Joshua’s coworkers stuns Max. He is particularly taken with … with American volunteer Valerie Austin, whose dream of a tropical honeymoon has been crushed, replaced by a stint working in the impoverished orphanage. But Valerie’s view of Joshua’s sacrifice—and her own—challenges everything Max knows. Have the doors to his gilded cage finally opened to a freedom he’s never known?

Love, love, loved this book!!!
I know when I read one of Deborah Raney’s books I will find exceptional characters doing amazing and honorable deeds throughout the world and in their own communities always working toward making a better world!
Inspirational and insightful look into the lives of two people placed together by a fate, unexpected and refreshing.
This is the second book I have read of hers and I thoroughly enjoyed it. If kept my attention and was a good clean Christian book. Things do not always turn out as we wish them too, but we have to keep the faith. It really highlights how much we take for granted and how much we can do for His kingdom if we yield out life to Him.
This is one of my favorite books by Deborah Raney (and I’ve barely scratched the surface of her books–so excited to read more). This story was beautiful, and I really didn’t want it to end. It’s not a light read, but I hate sad books, and I would never categorize this book in that way. Highly recommend!
Love this author. I like how she puts scenarios into books where you look at them and go “what would I do in that situation?” A great read 🙂
Loved it
The setting of this story is the ministry of missions in Haiti. It brings to life the poverty and difficulties livinlg and serving in this country. Both the main characters went to Haiti with different goals, but their mission work and the personal relationship they developed with God changed their hearts. A wonderful story.
I loved this captivating story set in a Haitian orphanage. Having participated in several overseas mission trips to poverty-stricken countries, my heart was fully engaged in the plight of the children and their need for care. If you’re looking for heavy romance, this isn’t the book for you. But if you’re interested in a heart-warming story of life change through the power of God, surrender to the will of God, and how serving others brings joy, give this one a read.
I could not put this book down, I pretty much read it in one sitting. I love Deborah Raney, she can paint a picture with her words so well that I felt I was in Haiti with these people. I wish I could be a selfless as these people were (and how people really are) to give up a life that could be so easy compared to the days that they are living in a Country that has nothing but what they give it. I really can’t put into words how this book made me feel. I just love Deborah Raney’s writing and I have loved everything that I have read of hers so much, they just make me feel.
I loved this book. I feel like I’ve been on a mission trip to Haiti, and the growth in the characters was sweet and believable.
Great read. Hard to put down.
I have read this book a couple of years in-between. I loved the gospel message that is available for all people groups with no respecter of persons.
Josh becomes a doctor and goes to Haiti to help children, finds faith. His father is a well to do plastic surgeon & doesn’t understand his sons mission. Father goes to Haiti to see what his son did. Read before and loved it. Also great a second time, thank you!
The author did oor job describing the character s. It took half the book before it was even mildly interesting.
An overall great book to read
Loved this book! Looking forward to more by this author!
