The truth is in the evidence. Follow your nose, keep an ear to the ground and don’t believe everything you hear. Tyson Cartwright has always known who he was and becoming the Adirondack Pack’s Enforcer was the goal from the very start. He loves his job, but not today. Someone in the pack isn’t who they say they are. It isn’t the first time and it won’t be the last that Tyson has to rid the pack … pack of a spy. These are the people he calls his friends and family and one of them is lying to him. His gut has an idea but is it just because he doesn’t like the man his sister has taken up with or is there something more to Jack Naughton? For Jenny’s sake he better know for sure it’s Jack before dispensing justice because once a wolf goes over the line, there is no coming back.

This story is not your happy time, sexy alpha, romance paranormal. It’s dirty, it’s gritty, it’s down right heart wrenching. And boy oh boy does this make me want book one ever more. I mean, I don’t know what I would do in Tyson’s situation, and I don’t know if he can ever come back from crossing the line he HAD to cross. He really did. And you never ever want to see those things happen. Tyson the lethal, protector, Enforcer of the pack, Jenny the sister of Tyson and Owen, Jack the cop, pack member, and Jenny’s boyfriend, Canidae the rebellious wolves who believe they are better than humans and humans need not exist.
This is a truely heartbreaking introduction to the Adirondack wolf pack. Tyson as the pack enforcer has few friends and even fewer family and this is the story of how he is responsible for the death of his only sister. This book introduces the pack alpha, doctor, enforcer and a few other characters, they are all great characters and I can’t wait to read more about them.
Tyson and his sister, Jenny, grew up hard and a tragedy drove them to the Adirondack Pack for protection. Protection became acceptance, and soon after, family. They were part of something that created a home for them. Jenny and the alpha, Owen, are the only people who know all of him and love him as Tyson cares for his sister and the rest of the pack as Enforcer. The rest of the pack fear him because should they ever cross the line they answer to him as judge, jury, and sometimes executioner.
His duties bring the machinations of the Canidae pack to his attention. They believe humans are lesser and their desire is to bring their existence forward and allow their wolf selves to reign over their weaker human side. When all signs point to a spy in the Adirondack Pack Tyson begins to investigate. What he finds is disturbing and the consequences are deadly. Jenny could be in danger and the one that could be threatening her is none other than her boyfriend, Jack Naughton.
When Tyson learns the truth he’s beyond devastated. The events that follow are more than intense, they’re utterly heartbreaking. I grew to love Tyson from the start, even his aloofness that separated him from everyone but Jenny and Owen. The story is a bit slow and there are a lot of characters we are introduced to that will be pivotal to the series as it progresses but the information is given in a way that isn’t confusing. Everything that happens is pretty linear and the plot is steady in its progression despite being a bit slow to get off the ground. There are also quite a few moments that could have been avoided if Tyson used his resources a little better but the information that’s withheld is also the foundation of the first official book in the series. Despite all that, Tyson captured my attention. His intelligence, keen observance, and determination to serve justice for his family cements him as a very good man. I’m absolutely invested in his story both now and when I read Too Far Gone.
