One of the top ten best-loved novels in America, as seen on PBS’s The Great American Read!
Scottish Highlands, 1945. Claire Randall, a former British combat nurse, is just back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon when she walks through a standing stone in one of the ancient circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach—an “outlander”—in a Scotland torn by war and raiding clans in the year of Our Lord . . . 1743.
Claire is catapulted into the intrigues of a world that threatens her life, and may shatter her heart. Marooned amid danger, passion, and violence, Claire learns her only chance of safety lies in Jamie Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior. What begins in compulsion becomes urgent need, and Claire finds herself torn between two very different men, in two irreconcilable lives.
This eBook includes the full text of the novel plus the following additional content:

It’s just about my favourite book. Have read it again and again. Gabardine is such a great story teller and that’s what this book is, a story which encompasses history, relationships of all sorts, good, evil, love and war.
Can’t recommend it highly enough.
When this book was recommended to me I was skeptical. But I quickly became hooked. After reading it I thought wow!!
When I finished reading it, I immediately went back and started from the beginning again, it was that good.
Loved Outlander from the get-go. Ended up reading the whole series twice over and fell in love with many of the characters. Diana provides marvellous historical context to all the books and has an undeniable ability to make Jamie Fraser (young or old) the bench-mark for all men.
What a story teller! And the history is on spot. All her books are recommended!
I loved this book and got addicted and have read the entire series
First in one of the best series I have ever read. Learned a lot of history reading these books. If the TV series draws you to the books, it’s a good thing. Even better…read the books first!!
Loved the characters and found it hard to put down. I’ve now read all the books in the series and waiting for more!!
Great book; great series; great audiobook
This is one of my all time favorite books!
If this book doesn’t stay with you forever, there’s something wrong with you!
Great series.
Love love love this series!
Love this series!
The very original. As a male, I really enjoyed this book—and really helped me understand why my wife enjoyed it so much!
full of interest and excitement.
You just have to read it. Stop waiting.
Incredible story… Incredible series
The first in the series and totally engrossing. I enjoyed the first three in the series but after that, they get a bit cutesy and wordy. The story is still good but the writing needs a more insistent editor.
She is one of the best writers that I’ve ever read and I read a lot. You can’t predict what will happen next and it’s almost impossible to put down.
