One of the top ten best-loved novels in America, as seen on PBS’s The Great American Read!
Scottish Highlands, 1945. Claire Randall, a former British combat nurse, is just back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon when she walks through a standing stone in one of the ancient circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach—an “outlander”—in a Scotland torn by war and raiding clans in the year of Our Lord . . . 1743.
Claire is catapulted into the intrigues of a world that threatens her life, and may shatter her heart. Marooned amid danger, passion, and violence, Claire learns her only chance of safety lies in Jamie Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior. What begins in compulsion becomes urgent need, and Claire finds herself torn between two very different men, in two irreconcilable lives.
This eBook includes the full text of the novel plus the following additional content:

Originally published under the title “Cross Stitch”, it is the first book in a series of time travelling between centuries, a love story intertwined with some very specific and historic times. The characters Jaime and Claire are star crossed lovers and their story is twisted and haunting with some happy and some not so happy moments but always …
Out of the thousands of books I’ve read in my life, this one is my MOST favorite!
Loved this story. Did skip some of the raunchy parts , but overall a wonderful page -turner
Best series ever!
Diana Gabaldan is a master story-teller. I particularly enjoy her attention to historical detail, with her characters inserted into real history. Obviously, the research that goes into this series is extensive. I actually made a trip to Scotland to see the places mentioned and was not disappointed. Jamie and Claire are human, with flaws and …
Probably my all time favorite book. I’ve read it many times. I can’t recommend it enough. Some readers think it’s too slow and/or difficult to get into. I will admit that the first 100 pages or so can be a little slow and it’s a very long book, but don’t let that put you off. If you can get past that, it will definitely rope you in. And even …
What can I say? The beginning of a great saga across time and oceans. Jamie, the Scot from the 18th century and Claire, the WW Ii army nurse who goes back in time only to be rescued by Jamie. Love and adventure, what more can you want?
I loved this book! It was absolutely fabulous with great ideas for story line and wonderful characters
This book is everything I love!
I was a fan of Diana Gabaldon LONG before Outlander was “a thing.”
Way back in my twenties, before my own writing career had even begun, I was totally captivated by the storyline, vivid characters, and slow-build, complicated, nuanced love story balanced by a twisted edge that develops between Jamie and Claire, …
I fell in love with this book
I can’t figure out if this book is genius or madness
Okay, so first things first… this book is LONG AS HELL. I am so glad I was listening to the audiobook because if I was reading it I would have put it down numerous times and never picked it back up again. Obviously the author is ridiculously talented and there is an enormous readership …
Got tired of vivid sex on every page, only read 300 pages. Not the book for me!
Have read all her books
Time travel from just after world war II to middle ages Scotland. You will probably be hooked on the series. This is book 1.
Loved the book, the characters, the story. I read all eight of the Outlander series and am loving the TV series. It is clever and contains everything from romance, to humor to tragedy, war, witchcraft, fantasy and history all woven together into a spellbinding series.
I have read this book twice and listened to it once! I would read it again!
I read all the books in the set. Couldn’t wait to get my hands on the next and enjoyed them all. My favorite boxed set of all.
Thank y you so much for a wonderful and inventive story.

I liked it so well I’ve read it three times
Absolutely best series ever. I love every one of these books. Not the typical time-travel novels. Everything makes sense. I’ve never been as invested in characters like this except for Jane Austen. Can’t wait for the next one.
I did not like this book very much, but it was entertaining enough to finish. The biggest problem is that the main character who tells the story, Claire, is NOT a three dimensional person. Her history is glossed over and I never truly understand who the hell she is, and therefore do not end up caring about her very much.
