One of the top ten best-loved novels in America, as seen on PBS’s The Great American Read!
Scottish Highlands, 1945. Claire Randall, a former British combat nurse, is just back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon when she walks through a standing stone in one of the ancient circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach—an “outlander”—in a Scotland torn by war and raiding clans in the year of Our Lord . . . 1743.
Claire is catapulted into the intrigues of a world that threatens her life, and may shatter her heart. Marooned amid danger, passion, and violence, Claire learns her only chance of safety lies in Jamie Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior. What begins in compulsion becomes urgent need, and Claire finds herself torn between two very different men, in two irreconcilable lives.
This eBook includes the full text of the novel plus the following additional content:
• An excerpt from Diana Gabaldon’s Dragonfly in Amber, the second novel in the Outlander series

Very good series.
My favorite series of books. A must read. It will leave you wanting to visit Scotland to see if you can fall through the stones.
Could not put this book down once I started reading it. Have now purchased all of the series available to date.
One of the best series i have ever read.
I have fallen in love with Claire and Jamie and can’t wait to find out what will happen next.
This is a great action book. I enjoyed the historical content combined with fantasy. What an interesting twist. I found watching the TV series too violent, but I enjoyed the books immensely.
My all-time favorite book!
This book is very slow in the beginning but once Claire moves in time the book is fantastic!
My all time favorite series. Wonderful!!!!
This series is my all time favorite and this is the first book of 8.In fact I have several copies in paperback just to give to new friends who are readers and don’t know about Outlander. It takes a bit in the beginning to get used to some of the Scottish words but don’t let that put you off.
The story will grab you and you wont want to put the …
Five stars aren’t enough for this wonderful time travel tale. Claire Randall is a WWII nurse who, on a belated honeymoon in Scotland, presses on an ancient stone that causes her to travel back in time to 1745, where she meets Jamie Fraser. Keeping himself and Claire safe from the evil Jonathan Randall takes both of them on adventures all over …
Packed with history and time travel. Great fun.
With all the fuss over the Outlander Series on Starz, I thought I would read the series again. These books never disappoint. They are suspenseful, action packed and romantic. One might even say, steamy. I met Diana Gabaldon back in 1997 at a Highlands Fair and still remember the encounter to this day. I even have her first 4 books signed and I …
Diana Gabaldon is the master of time travel writing. She drags you into the story so willingly. I read this book years ago and everything else that I can find that she’s written. You cannot go wrong reading this book and ultimately the series. The TV stuff is crap by comparison of the world Ms. Gabaldon takes the reader. The characters are …
The story itself is interesting. The characters are likeable. The technical aspect of the writing, however, completely sucks. Numerous times I had to re-read a section or an entire page to understand who was saying/doing what. Apparently the auther doesn’t understand the “golden rule” of each character having their own paragraph for …
Makes you wish it could come true!
