Out Rider was the last book in Lindsay McKenna’s Wyoming series. I have read a couple of other books in the series and had to read this book. The hero, Sloan Rankin, was previously in the Army and was presently working for the US Forest Service as a ranger and as a farrier. Sloan had suffered from PTSD after leaving the military. He was also a canine handler and a horseman – necessary for his duties in the Grand Tetons National Park. The heroine, Devorah (Dev) McGuire, was a former Marine who was a combat dog handler who hunted for IEDs in Afghanistan. As this story began she was a Ranger with the US Forest Service who was transferring to the Grand Tetons National Park. She was running from a dangerous situation. On top of that she had been injured in an IED explosion while serving in Afghanistan with resulting PTSD. She met Sloan when her horse trailer containing her mare and her yellow Labrador Bella – a search and rescue dog, had a flat tire. He assisted her with the repair and escorted her to the US Forest Service stable in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where she could stable her horse. Dev was assigned to Sloan to learn all about the park and how to handle search and rescue events with the assistance of her dog, Bella. Sloan also had a canine combat dog. The relationship and eventual romance between these two characters was wonderful to read. Reading about the efforts of the Rangers who serve in the US Forest Service was fascinating! What they do in their daily work days to keep visitors to the National Parks safte is one of the most understated efforts. The suspense of Dev being hunted by a previous employee who had hurt her and was determined to harm her again kept me turning the pages. Sloan and his dog’s efforts to keep Dev and Bella safe made this a wonderful story to read. I read this book in one sitting. I could not stop reading it. I highly recommend this book.
This is the finale to the series Jackson Hole. It’s a fast-paced romantic suspense that creates a love story between two lost souls and ends with a HEA. What a nice touch to bring in the previous characters from the series and let us know how they are…
