Now she spends her days working as a rural home health care nurse, making calls on a quirky roster of housebound characters she’s determined to take care of whether they cooperate or not.
She applies this same optimism to her love life, despite the fact that she’s been dating for 38 years without locating any husband material. When she runs into her childhood sweetheart, Henry Matthews, a wildlife ranger for the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, it looks like she might’ve found her man.
But Phoebe and Henry’s chance for romance has to be put on hold while they undertake a desperate search for a young woman who mysteriously vanished from the park during a gathering of world famous biologists and botanists, including a charismatic Frog Whisperer.
Out on a Limb is a mystery that takes place in the same Smoky Mountain world as her three national bestsellers Heart in the Right Place, Medicine Men, and Bear in the Back Seat.

I like stories about the Appalachian Mts. This was an easy read with an unexpected villain.
Good easy read! Interesting
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and am looking forwarding to reading more of her writing. She makes you feel as though you are there, or could be. The Smokey Mountain area is one of our favorite haunts. I recommend the book.
Very simple
Generally a good read, kept me interested. It was a little heavy in the scientific explanation department ( and a little boring)
Interesting but not a great read.
I thought I knew the Great Smoky Mountains….this took me places I had never been. The story line travelled in loops and spirals just like driving through the Smokies themselves.
This is probably my favorite book ever. Such memorable characters and so informative on so many levels
Loved this book.
Loved the setting in the Smoky mountains. Interesting folks, realistic dialogue ( hard to do consistently) and a good mystery all in one book. Great!
While an original setting and very interesting circumstances, the bad guy is always motivated by greed – that was a bit predictable. However, you are on your toes to the bitter end.
Loved the information about The Great Smokies. Many interesting characters and so well written.
Great Book! Would be a great movie!
Enjoyed every moment of the story, liked the characters immensely, loved the mountain setting and the Appalachian culture, presented with respect. The reader comprehends the pull of the natural beauty and the folkways that keep Phoebe and her ranger friend comitted to their community.
A new author for me. Thought she did a good job at plot, and it was an interesting focus she had on medicinal use of plants and the pharma industry.
I think it is a true representation of the geographical area and the culture of the people who live there. It includes interesting details that I did not know about my home state, Tennessee. The main characters shared their thoughts and attitudes, that seemed genuine. They were caring, educated and intelligent people, not hillbilly cartoon …
I really liked this one ! Well developed characters , interesting plot and set in a location I have visited many times.
I loved this book. The characters are well written and the plot is really interesting. It’s a great mystery with both creepy and hilarious characters and action.
Ok.
Well written and original. I enjoyed immensely.
