When single, unattached John McCabe goes out for last-minute Christmas shopping, what he doesn’t expect is to find himself in the middle of a life or death rescue.John isn’t known for having the perfect gift for everyone at Christmas. He usually hits the malls in the final hours before they close, grabs the last thing on the shelf, and cringes as the gifts are unwrapped. But this year is … unwrapped. But this year is different. He’s determined to do better.
However, on his way to a store in downtown Salem, he spots a crowd of people and sees a woman on the rooftop of a five-story building, about to jump to her death.
Instead of waiting for help, John does what he knows his father and uncles would do: He goes out on the rooftop after the stranger with the sole intention of talking her down. What he soon learns is how a desperate situation can turn into the worst-case scenario, because this woman believes there is no turning back.more
What would you do when faced with making a quick decision to save a stranger’s life? It’s a decision John McCabe certainly didn’t think he was going to have to make when he left work to do his family Christmas shopping. And it’s a decision no one wants to have to ever make, but when confronted with a matter of life or death, John literally jumps in to do what he knows is the right thing to do.
Violet may believe her life is truly over and there’s only one way out, but John’s determined to prove her wrong; if only he can get close enough to do it. Even when life seems at its darkest, there’s always a tomorrow, and that may be the best Christmas gift John has ever given.
This is a heart-stopping story that will have you holding your breath and on the edge of your seat. For some this may be a very emotional read as suicide is a very sensitive topic, but it’s handled in a very compassionate and yet compelling manner. And, although this is not a romance, it makes a heart-felt impact, and who knows, maybe there’s destined to be more for John and Violet in the future.
John heads out to buy last-minute Christmas gifts but ends up saving a girl instead. Her life is hanging in the balance as she stands on the edge of the roof of the building where John works. A suffering woman. Sexual harassment. Threats. I enjoyed this Friessen short.
The story is about a real problem that affects women in the work place and then takes it to the extreme. It also shows that there are men in the world that will go to great lengths to help the woman even when she’s wrong. It was a very short, short story.
An interesting short story. I listened to the Audiobook, which was about 80 min long. It is a standalone, but after listening to the brief interaction with the McCabe Brothers, I am interested in going back to listen to their stories.
I was surprised that this wasn’t really a romance, and it wasn’t really about Christmas. It occurred a couple of days before Christmas, but the holiday didn’t play into what Violet was going through.
I wish there had been more information on Violet’s relationship with her family. She made it sound like they weren’t supportive of her and didn’t think much of her. She said she had finally turned her life around. I never heard what her life was like prior to turning her life around.
What Violet did to land her in that position was both stupid and dangerous. This was more of a statement on her mental health, no matter how well meaning she meant to be.
I did like the fact that John kept his promises to her and got her some help. I am also glad that Violet realized how wrong she was in doing what she did. I just wonder what her mental state was that assisted in her making that decision?
I voluntarily listened to and reviewed this Audiobook received from the author.
Right when I think I have read Ms. Eckhart’s best, she pops another out and this one is by far her greatest in my opinion. John and Violet will have you on baited breath as you read this thrilling story. John jumps into action to try and talk Violet down from jumping. Violet thinks she has nothing to live for and John wants to prove her wrong. Will he be able to talk her down or are they truly OUT OF TIME? I voluntarily agreed to receive an ARC of this book for an honest review.
Violet tried to do what she thought was the right, but instead she created a mess that has taken over her life. She finds herself standing on the edge of the roof thinking that maybe ending it all would make things right. John McCabe is leaving work when he realizes a young woman is standing on the edge of the roof. Without thinking, he runs back into the building and to the roof. He’s not sure what to do, but he knows he needs to help. Can he get her to calm down, to stop, to think and save her life? Learning what has upset her, he knows that she meant well, but she has created a situation from which she feels unable to recover. A story of hope when things look the darkest, when a helping hand may give you time to breathe and give yourself another chance, another day. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation from the author. (by paytonpuppy)
This is a heart-stopping story that will have you holding your breath and on the edge of your seat.
Ms Eckhart has dealt with many different delicate story lines and always does it with great respect.
It makes it a pleasure to read all her books
Highly recommend.
