Wow, what a story. Cleary gave such details. I felt like I was there. I can’t imagine getting stuck in something like that. After I read her book, I watched a couple documentaries on drug mules and money laundering, etc. I guess it’s true, once you go that route, you can’t get out of the biz. easily. Prison, and getting any kind of a life back afterwards, is also pretty chilling. I never realized what a stigma a prison sentence carries once you’re out. This was a good book.
This was not what I expected. I wasn’t drawn in at all.
not as engaging as “Orange is the New Black” but nice to read the ‘other side of the story’.
It was great to read some of the back story from another point of view to “Orange is the New Black”. The story easily held my interest and shared incite into a world I would not have even had a peek inside. I also applaud Cleary for her writing style. Leaving out the parts of her life that were mundane and including the parts that were important to her story. I was on the edge of my seat several times throughout and am glad that Cleary and her sister have moved on after paying their debt to society. I wonder if we will hear more from Cleary in the future.
Actually, I didn’t even finish it. I tried to hang in there, but I was turned off by the vulgar language, and finely called it quits.
If the reader wants a glance into the minds and actions of smugglers, this is a least a bit informative. I read it through but it didn’t hold my attention. Not as good as the book that inspired it. ‘Orange is the New Black’. The writer wants to and does explain her side of the story. The characters are not really interesting. They are predictable and do foolish things. This true story takes place in a time that people were a bit more naive than they may have been now. It doesn’t encourage sympathy or identification with the participants of this criminal group and, that is just as well. It does give a look into the lives and thinking of smugglers and in that it is informative.
I have watched “Orange is the New black” (waiting for the new season to begin), and thought this might be fun to listen to. But i got about half way through, and just got tired of her story. Reader is good.
I had a hard time finishing this. It is very real and I didn’t read the actual Orange is Black but it was similar to my experience watching the show. It is difficult to be witnessing one bad decision after another on both of their parts. I like her honesty though.
Very courageous person. Would have loved to meet her Dad and the prison cat.
Good stuff.
What happened to her was not a TV show.
Entertaining. A little to deep in the weeds for me when detailing the intricacies of the drug partners, but still entertaining.
Enjoyed very much
