What’s the first rule of reinventing yourself as a cool girl at a new school? Steer clear of your old crush.A new school means a fresh start. So long Ronnie Smith, invisible tomboy, and hello Veronica, popular new hottie. This is my chance to finally be seen….and kissed. Yeah, that’s right. I’ve never been kissed. But I mean to change all that now that I’m starting over with a new look and … over with a new look and attitude. The only problem? I’m not the only one from my old school who’s transferred to Briarwood High.
Drew Remi is here, too, and he’s still the same wildly popular baseball star. He’s also the only person who can ruin my new life. But he can only rat me out if he recognizes me. So, why am I so upset when he doesn’t have a clue who I really am?

I liked the story and the characters. It’s just a shame that the story was so short. I could have read on for hours. I liked the straightforwardness and honesty of Ronnie. Drew …. is like winning the lottery jackpot (LOL). Charming, determined and patient. Both complemented and supported each other wonderfully.
A Book that Makes a Fun Impression the first Try
Veronica wants a second chance to make a first impression, so she decides to take a scholarship to a private school for her final year of high school. Her best friend doesn’t understand, but Veronica knows that if she wants to be kissed any time before college she has to be seen as more than merely one of the guys. After all, there are many facets to Veronica.
This coming of age story is a sweet take on figuring out who you really are and being brave enough to stand up for who you choose to be.
Veronica wanted to change schools, she wanted to be popular. She was tired of being invisible at her old school. , Drew moved back to town and ended up going to the same School as Veronica.
Veronica/Ronnie learned several things from Drew, Being popular doesn’t mean everyone is your friend. We’re always growing doesn’t mean moving in different directions, not as long as the support and room to grow together brings out the best version of themselves.
Lauren Fortgang and Josh Hurley narration is very good. I enjoyed listening to the story audiobookobsessionreviewer
A perfect high school romance with a small piece of second chance in there two. Trying to fit in at school is always hard and trying to figure out who you are in the mix is even harder. Luckily for us Veronica is ready to figure that out with new beginnings at a new school. I love watching this budding romance unfold and the ending was perfect.
Cute short teen romance – could have been a John Hughes movie. 🙂 No big surprises, but a likeable cast of characters and some truly funny moments.
Looking forward to reading more in the series!
Briarwood High Book One.
Veronica ‘Ronnie’ Smith is determined to start out at her new school with a completely new look and attitude. She will no longer be invisible to her classmates. To this end, her friend Margo has given her a blowout, new clothes and makeup. However, when she arrives for the first day of school everything is put in jeopardy as she runs into an old classmate, Drew Remi. Luckily – or not – he doesn’t recognize her at all. Veronica doesn’t even know how to react to the situation, so she acts like she doesn’t know him either. After compounding untruths are revealed, Veronica is stuck in the role she cast herself in. Drew can’t help falling for the new girl, but he also knows she cannot be his.
If you’re looking for a high school romance with two people who don’t believe in games, this is the book for you.

This is a YA/ High School Romance. I loved Ronnie & Drew. They were such great characters and they fit so well together. The girl who desperately wants to be seen, the popular guy who has no real friends, they grew up together and then grew apart in middle/high school. This isn’t like the normal popular boy books, no bets are placed to see if the shy quiet girl will fall for the jock. Ronnie was the one who initiated the makeover not wanting to be the tomboy or one of the guys anymore. Typical high school drama must always ensue!
I loved the audio for this. I haven’t listened to any narrations by Lauren Fortgang or Josh Hurley before but will be looking for their other narrations.

This is the first book in the Briarwood High Series. This is a sweet High School Romance. Ronnie and Drew’s story is really cute. Lauren Fortgang and Josh Hurley did a great narration. I recommend this audiobook if you like teenage/young adult stories! I received this free review copy audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily written this review.
Audiobook Version:
I have recently found and fallen in love with Maggie Dallen and her writing. This was different than the others in that it was YA/NA but it contained the same great humor, chemistry, and writing. She writes characters that you can’t help but fall in love with. I love the natural way her writing flows. It is perfectly adapted for a wonderful audiobook!
The narration in this was fantastic! Lauren has such great timing and personality that she adds to her characters. Josh was a wonderful new addition for me. They both have voices that are perfect for audio- they are clear, entertaining and swoon-worthy. The production was clean, well edited and well worth a credit!

Out Of His League is a ya novel that touches upon the most significant high school moments. A endearing fluffy novel for readers looking for a zippy romantic fix. A bit of sports thrown in with high school melodrama. Character’s are likeable & fun to learn about. Overall, a fun listen.
Narrators Lauren Fortgang and Josh Hurley portrayed the characters with their dual narration perfectly. I could feel the emotions as they brought out the characters voices. Tone and pace flows through smoothly. Aces performance.
Maggie Dallen writes to support and lift up every teenager showing them that we’re all the same and everyone has troubles. I was glad Veronica finally found her true self. Wish we all could that early in life. The narrators did a great job! Overall, I loved it and would listen to it again!

This is an enjoyable, young adult romance. The story is well written and grabs you right from the start. The storylines and characters are interesting and well developed. Maggie Dallen does a wonderful job capturing H.S drama and the struggles of teenage living, peer pressure, popularity, bullying, dating and all that fun stuff. The two lead characters, Veronica and Drew are likable and realistic, I liked the chemistry between them and was happy when it finally clicked for them. This is a great start to a YA series, I highly recommend this story and this author.
I listened to the Audible edition, narrated by the talented Lauren Fortgang and Josh Hurley. They are awesome voice performers and storytellers. They bring the characters to life giving each their own voice making easy to follow along. They added the perfect amount of dramatic flair which enhanced an already great story another level. Thank you for this great and entertaining audio listen.

How can you change your life? Ronnie has always been a tomboy, and somewhat invisible. When she changes schools, she finds the opportunity to reinvent herself. When she realizes Drew, a childhood “friend” is at the same school, she is concerned for her new image. But she finds a whole new side to this young man. What a great low angst, fun filled, love story. Maggie Dallen writes with compassion and true feelings of that time in high school when we were all trying to find ourselves. She truly gives a great message of how life changes and how we can learn to roll with it. Every character is one we can remember from our past and relate to the story with the feelings of a teenager. It was a great listen
Lauren Fortgang and Josh Hurley bring this story to life with the narration. I love Fortgang. Her abundance of voices is amazing, and she can play both the teenager and the adult with ease. This was my first Josh Hurley listen, and I found his voice perfect for those teenage boys. He gave them each the personality necessary to make the story believable and fun.
Great YA story. Veronica aka Ronnie wants to “reinvent” herself when she starts attending a new school her Junior year. So, with the help of her friend Margo, she does just that! She goes from being a “plain Jane” and “invisible” at her old school to the “beautiful new hot chick” at her new school. She immediately catches the school’s star baseball player Drew’s attention, the one person at her new school who could ruin it all for her – he’s known her most of her life, luckily he doesn’t recognize her as “Ronnie”. But is it all worth it in the end? Great coming of age book for YA’s!
