What if you almost missed the love of your life?
Nadia gets the 7.30 train every morning without fail. Well, except if she oversleeps or wakes up at her friend Emma’s after too much wine.
Daniel really does get the … fail. Well, except if she oversleeps or wakes up at her friend Emma’s after too much wine.
Daniel really does get the 7.30 train every morning, which is easy because he hasn’t been able to sleep properly since his dad died.
One morning, Nadia’s eye catches sight of a post in the daily paper:
To the cute girl with the coffee stains on her dress. I’m the guy who’s always standing near the doors… Drink sometime?
So begins a not-quite-romance of near-misses, true love, and the power of the written word.
A #1 ebook bestseller, this wonderful will-they-won’t-they romance is perfect
for those who loved Beth O’Leary’s The Flatshare and Mhairi McFarlane’s If I Never Met You.

“She once heard that love shouldn’t be called ‘falling’, because the best love roots you, and makes you grow upwards, taller and stronger.”
Nadia is always running late and Daniel is organized but in this case, opposites really do attract.
Nadia and Daniel are both professionals in London. One morning Daniel sees a frazzled Nadia across a crowded tube (subway) car and is instantly attracted to her. But she gets off the car before he has the nerve to approach her.
What follows are romantic letters to each other in the “Missed Connections” section of the newspaper and a series of almost-meetings continue for months.
This was a rom-com told in alternating chapters by Nadia and Daniel. It was great fun watching the romance bloom between the two.
As always I am going to start with the blurb and cover for this novel. In a word, they are both incredible. The yellow on the cover is super eyecatching and it makes your hands want to reach for it, even if your brain doesn’t. For someone who predominantly reads science fiction and fantasy, that is I am always surrounded with make-believe, it’s really nice to find an easy read romance which swept me up into its story from the blurbs first sentence.
The story is about two characters, Nadia and Daniel, who both get the 7:30 train into work. Whilst she hasn’t really noticed him, Nadia is generally too busy trying not to spill her coffee as she gets onto the carriage as the doors close, he has spotted her and writes into Missed Connections, a feature in the newspaper. Thus begins their interactions and near misses.
I really enjoyed devouring the chapters on my lunchbreak and not wanting to put the book down. It’s full of moments that will make you laugh, smile, and have a slight twang on your heartstrings too. I also really loved that some of the conversations were written in the same style as Williams has written her blog posts or non-fiction books. Bold, outrageous and thoroughly entertaining.
I would 100% recommend this book to anyone who likes romance, and anyone who needs a break from their ever-expanding TBR because this story just makes you take a breath and stop for a second. A great, great story and I can’t wait for more.
I first picked up this book as I was attracted to the bright cover as well as the blurb.
This book is about two people who it seems keep on missing each other but are destined to meet, however fate/destiny keeps stepping in and has other ideas.
Nadia gets the 7:30am train every single morning without fail, unless she over sleeps after too much wine with her friend Emma. Nadia wants to change her lifestyle after coming out of a bad relationship.
Daniel also gets the 7:30am train every morning which is easy for him as he struggles to sleep. The two characters keep missing each other and Daniel posts and advert in the Missed Connections Column. Daniel has had his eye on Nadia for awhile only she’s never noticed him. One day Nadia’s friend checks the daily paper and sees a post that she’s convinced is about Nadia.
It’s a story of will they won’t they.
I feel this book is extremely predictable like I knew exactly when and what was going to happen. At first it did keep my attention but very quickly lost it again and the story becomes very flat which was alitte disappointing. There are some political views to that I don’t really want to see in a romance book. I normally like to be kept guessing and wondering and this book didn’t do that for me. I felt the story was quite slow going and repetitive at times. I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I would its an okay read but not really for me.
Thank you
The concept was a cute idea. But I couldn’t relate to the characters. I only read a third of the book. I couldn’t read anymore. I never stop reading a book. I assume it’s always going to get better. I just couldn’t finish it
I loved the story but the book dragged at times… I still recommend it.
I had a hard time getting past some of the foul language.
Despite a lot of potential (and I really liked the idea/concept), this was a SLOW read for me. It felt very “stream of consciousness-y” to me with lots of run-on sentences. I wasn’t sure if that was an attempt to be “amusing” as this was billed as a romcom or if it was just the author’s writing style. At some level, this felt like a conglomeration of various articles from a woman’s magazine – which, given the author’s background as a writer for (wait for it) women’s magazines, made sense. It also felt a bit preachy to me. (re: Brexit, Tories and feminism). It’s absolutely fine to espouse opinions (and some expressed were very valid) but this just seemed overly heavy handed/ repetitive given the type of book this was (a romcom). The story did pick up once Nadia and Daniel finally met, but ultimately, I felt this could have been half as long.
*Advance copy provided by NetGalley. All opinions are my own.*
Do you ever pick up a book at what feels like the exact right time? By that I mean the story and characters resonate with you and where you’re at in your life, it feels like it’s riddled with messages that are for you, and it just feels like you were meant to read this book? That’s what Our Stop felt like for me. I was on Goodreads one day and happened to see a friend was reading it and had got an eARC from Netgalley. I checked Netgalley, surprised to find it still available, requested it without much expectation, and was ecstatic when I was approved. And then I started reading and I had that rare and wonderful feeling of ‘Ohh, okay. This book was meant for me.’ Talk of things happening for a reason, being meant to be, and mentions of the Law of Attraction will always catch my attention, and when they’re paired with a story that’s witty, thought-provoking, romantic, and engaging, it’s a clear winner for me.
This book was different from a lot of the British romcoms/chick lit I’ve read. Most of the ones I’ve read can be described as sweet and light, with little to no swearing, no sex, and while they may tackle some heavier real-life topics, they tend to remain mostly fluffy (which is in no way a bad thing – I’m here for the fluff!). But Our Stop was the opposite of the books I’m used to and what I expected this book to be. The characters were smart, modern, and complex, and not only dealt with real issues but talked about them too. Among other things, this book touched on topics like feminism, consent, grief, how men and ‘masculinity’ are perceived, and the female characters talked about things you rarely see talked about, like periods, body hair, and honest discussions about sex. Every time I came to those sections, I would just stop and think ‘Wow. Yes. This is what I want to see more of in books.’
Our Stop was a charming, delightful, hopeful read. It was witty, honest, emotional, and so romantic. By the time I finished reading, I had a big dopey smile on my face and tears in my eyes. It was exactly what I needed exactly when I needed it. I look forward to reading more from Laura Jane Williams!
Tender, energetic and authentic … Such a current love story, but so timeless too. I adored Nadia and Daniel.
“Missed connections “ that’s how I would name this book actually. It had everything for a sweet, light summer read at the beach while having a cocktail and relaxing. While the first part of the story felt dragging a bit, to much inside of work colleagues, friends and family for both Nadia and Daniel, the second part takes a faster pace and it’s more about their feelings towards each other and what ifs and how they get to know each other. I liked that she took a time for herself to just enjoy the moment and met a nice guy, before actually dating Daniel. Overall was a good read and will definitely recommend it.
Our Stop is everything I didn’t know I needed in a book. Laura Jane Williams’ writing SEES you, and gives you so much. This is exactly the joyful escapism you need for your next beach holiday.
A fresh, smart, modern rom com. This is romance seen through the wry eyes of a cynic, and that’s what makes it so special — and, ultimately, so uplifting. It had me totally gripped.
Excellently Executed. This is a romance tale where the entire premise is that our central couple keeps *just* missing each other, and it *really* works. The cuts between perspectives in different scenes are amazing, showing the couple at various points literally in the same place at the same time… and completely missing each other. It *is* a romance though and *does* have a happily ever after, but Williams does an amazing job of holding that off until almost literally the last second. Funny where it needs to be, serious where it needs to be, and overall a fun romantic comedy. Very much recommended.
Our Stop by Laura Jane Williams a five-star read that will make you stop whatever you are doing to read. I had read some of the reviews for this one and wasn’t sure so put it off and read something else, then had a random convo about a tube station insta story about a meet cute with a friend and this novel popped into my head, it was like a sign and one I am so glad I acted on as I loved this novel so hard!! So many what ifs and missed connections kept me hooked and reading to the point I ignored everyone and everything. This was so sublime I want to take an ad out in the paper telling everyone to buy it!! I plan on buying a bunch of paperbacks just to give out to people waiting on the train tracks because more people need this story in their lives, they need the inspiration and power that the written word brings to life in these pages, more people need to hear the passion is Nadia’s voice as she talks to her boss, and the heart break she feels at different points in the story. There are so many near misses in this story, will they ever get their happily ever after? Go read the book and find out as I can’t tell you as its all part of the bigger story.
