Two detectives, each with their share of personal and professional baggage, are paired together under the watchful eye of a newly minted lieutenant. The disappearance of two young girls at a slumber party prompts Detective Jim North and Kerry Martin to examine all facets of the girl’s lives, and they discover the girl’s parents are hiding more than they’re letting on.
Enjoyed the book. Unexpectedtwist
Excellent mystery with great dynamics between the strong main characters make this a compelling read. You won’t want to stop reading until you finish.
Kept me up most of the nite. Couldn’t stop reading.
Two damaged cops, two missing pre-teens, families with secrets, and three bodies found.
Jim is a man on a mission to save as many missing children as he can and is a loner. Kerry is married, two kids, loving husband and finally a cop with a mission.
The author starts off with a bang as the two “m’s”, Amelia and Emily go missing from a slumber party. ..scary thought. Then you meet Jim and Kerry, both with emotional baggage from childhood but both united to find these kids.
Great police procedural, lots of factual information in the search including the background of the missing girls’ parents. The way they search the rooms, finding the notes, to the way they observe each parent and child….all very carefully done and written about by the author, as if he had been in the room watching real police. Jim and Kerry are depicted as people that have been dealt harsh blows but are still hopeful.
This book goes into the blue wall of silence and dirty cops. Also broken homes, the foster system, and therapists. This book has a solid plot, clues, some scares, and a great ending.
You have Mullochs protecting her cops against the good old boys above her, Kerry’s husband, and Jim and Kerry working as a team and trying their best to rescue the girls alive
This author has a clean, concise way of writing and developes his charcters easily and draws you in to their lives. Want to read more with Kerry and Jim as they investigate crimes against children. And a realistic but happy ending. Enjoy this book. 5 stars

Two young girls go missing during a slumber party at a friend’s house. There were seven girls in total present.
Two detectives, Jim North and Kerry Martin, new partners and new to the police station out of which they work take the case. They both have some things in their pasts they wish to forget.
As they set about getting used to one another and investigating the girls’ families, they discover some secrets that the parents are hiding. They discover some similarities in the girls’ lifestyle – I will refrain from saying too much for that might give something away. Suffice it to say that the girls want to live what they deem a better life.
For a debut novel, this book is very good. We learn about the traumas suffered by the detectives, but do we really get to know them? Perhaps that is coming as the characters are developed in subsequent books? There were a couple of areas in the book in which the information given was a little short on background. The pacing in the book was good and the tension was built nicely. All in all, a very nice introduction to a great team of detectives.
I look forward to reading more of Mr. Hunt’s novels.
