I’m supposed to hate her just because her last name is Erickson and her family owns The Bagel Place. The Andrews and Ericksons of Cliffton Heights are equivalent to the Capuletes and Montagues from Romeo and Juliet. No one is sword fighting in alleys or anything, but the feud between our families tore two best friends apart. Not just our fathers, but Evan and me too. The truth is, my feelings for … is, my feelings for her are the complete opposite of hate, but she’ll never know that because her last name will always be Erickson.

A friends to enemies but back to friends then lovers romcom. I loved this book for so many reasons. The writing was planned out perfectly. The characters have strong personalities but are easy to connect with. I got lost in this story it was so good. It’s a book you can easily read again and again. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series this one will be hard to top.
Overall Grade:
I love a good romance with a hero and heroine from warring families. There is a reason that Romeo and Juliet is one of Shakespeare’s most beloved plays: other people like it too. When you read Piper Rayne’s Our Star-Crossed Kiss, along with the other Rooftop Crew stories, you can’t help but fall in love with wise-cracking Seth. He’s the guy who brings the comic relief to his friend group, and that friend group is one of the best parts of this book and its predecessors. They provide the wisdom and the humor to situations that don’t always feel that way. And I love the group because it’s inclusive. Others can enter it without too much hazing.
Enter Evan, Piper Rayne’s heroine in their newest book. She and Seth have a past as their families co-owned a business until they didn’t. After a twenty-year absence from each other’s lives (one where they still resided in the periphery), they decide to couple up under the guise of a fake engagement to help their family businesses by entering a Food Channel show. There is so much to like about Our Star-Crossed Kiss:
There is undeniable chemistry between Evan and Seth. These two have liked each other for more than they would like to admit. We saw glimpses of it in the last book that Piper Rayne released, The Rival Roomies, when every time that Evan Erickson is brought up, Seth’s interest is piqued. You want these two to find their way to each other because they complete each other.
The Rooftop Crew is back. Once again, they razz Seth, support Seth, and accept Evan into their fold. Their encouragement guides Seth and Evan closer to each other, and I love that Evan finds a space beyond her family.
The story itself engages you. I don’t want to give away the story points (read the book for that), but there are themes regarding familial problems, addiction, and the future. All of these feel ancillary to the romance, which should be the point. Piper Rayne carefully create their stories to highlight their heroes and heroines, and that is decidedly true in Our Star-Crossed Kiss.
If you have read any of the other Rooftop Crew books, I know you’ll love Seth and Evan’s story. Fake engagement, family feuds, and a couple who are reticent to enter life together will grab your heart and make you root hard for Evan and Seth’s happy ending. Our Star-Crossed Kiss is a perfect sweet and sassy read for any day of the week.
When you wake feeling not so great and find a Piper Rayne book published while you slept and is all cued up to read, your day goes from not so great to hearts and smiles in a second! That’s what happened to me today and I enjoyed my break from reality tremendously!
Dylan and Rian have been doing the push/pull dance around each other for a bit. Neither seems confidant enough to go after the other and I’d even go as far as saying that , on the surface, it may even look like Dyaln is not remotely interested, but … no, he’s interested alright 😉 If only they could get out of each other’s way, hmmmm? Lol *sigh* what a great read!!! I love everything about both Dylan and Rian and their journey! All it takes is a little competition in sight and Dylan is all in. FA.BU.LOUS!
This friend group is ridiculously entertaining and have made for one of the best group friend series that I have read! Although this book can most certainly be read all on its own, this group is involved with each other, and not just in the abstract, so it would be much more enjoyable for you if you read these from the beginning!
Our Star-Crossed Kiss is Book 4 of Piper Rayne’s The Rooftop Crew Series. It’s no secret that I am a huge fan of all these books and have been looking forward to reading Seth and Evan’s story.
Our Star-Crossed Kiss is a:
Enemies to Lovers
Fake Engagement
Romcom Read
Seth is a sexy clown. He’s a goofball and absolutely adorable. You will love him and the craziness that is his way of being. He’s also intense and determined which I find incredibly sexy. I thoroughly enjoyed getting a front row seat to the inner workings of his mind and looked forward to watching him fall head over camera lens, for his childhood best friend turned enemy, Evan.
Evan is beautiful, kindhearted and a little bit lost. Stuck in a place where she no longer has control of her life and honestly has little to no direction. Her heart is big and the love she has for her family is strong, and she continues to do what is best for them. Her one weakness has always been the boy who stole her heart when they were children, Seth.
Seth and Evan join forces to outsmart both their families and the results are both hilarious and uber sexy. I’m not a huge fan of both Enemies to Lovers and Fake Engagement romances but this book turned me on to both. Our Star-Crossed Kiss gets the judy.ann.loves.books stamp of approval, TBR and Enjoy!
Fun and sexy
I always get a kick out of these two ladies stories. They add lots of laughs and are never boring. In this we get two childhood friends who’s parents have s falling out so that pretty much ends their friendship.
Fast forward twenty years later and they come together for the greater good. Evan and Seth are great characters and the enemies to friends sage turns the heat up on these two. What starts off as helping each other out turns to developing feelings for the other. It’s cut, funny and flaming hot. I so enjoyed this incredible read and highly recommend it.

If you’re an avid fan of Piper and Rayne, you know they love teasing their other couples throughout their series. Evan and Seth’s story is something I’ve been waiting for.
Our Star-Crossed Kiss is the 4th book from The Rooftop Crew and I have a horrible habit of remembering the other characters from this series. Anywho, Evan and Seth have a long history of rivalry between their parents, all over bagels and cream cheese. These two went from being childhood best friends and then their parents were on the outs, so they were pushed to no longer acknowledge each other’s existence.
I was soooo eager to what would be the reason to force these two to just be in the same spot at once, and I was so here for it! With an opportunity they would be great both of their family bagel businesses, they join together and start a fake relationship. And we know how that always goes.
I loved that after 20 years, the bond they had as kids was definitely present. As much as they tell themselves that they’re just pretending, there’s a lot of hidden real feelings behind it all.
Seth is just sooo smooth about everything, but he definitely uses humor as a coping mechanism. But his heart is on his sleeve and everyone can see how deeply he cares for Evan. My goodness, I loved his character and in the end, my heart was split wide open for him.
Loved these two together, it was such a fun and cute read. I even shed a few tears at the end. But there’s no doubt these two were meant to be together, so yeah, I ship them hard
Our Star-Crossed Kiss can be read as a standalone, with the little element of Romeo and Juliet, but don’t worry … there is a happily ever after!
Piper Rayne
4.5 stars
I absolutely loved this book, it was in my opinion a beautiful twist on Romeo and Juliet. I’ve been looking forward to Seth and Evan’s story for some time. We’ve caught glimpses of them through the rest of the series but that was nothing compared to what we got. This book is full of surprises.
I can’t go into the in’s and out’s of the story but know it was it’s brilliant, emotional and at times really funny. Secrets are revealed that leave you stunned but smiling. As per normal, I am adhering to Piper Rayne’s rules and remaining silent on all the happenings.
This book is a total recommendation from me. As well as this book, the series is a must-read for me.

Piper Rayne always gives me the perfect amount of sweet and heat! I loved this enemies to lovers story full of witty banter and romantic charm. A lovely treat that warmed my heart and soul.
Evan and Seth are modern day star crossed lovers- with the feuding Montague and Capulets of Verona are replaced with two feuding bagel entrepreneurs of Clifton Height- how delightfully PIper Rayne. The rift between these two families is seemingly impenetrable, especially now that the two are competing for a TV feature. Evan and Seth used to be best friend before the vendetta- and cleverly decided to reignite that friendship to save them from a future they don’t want- running a bagel business. Pretending to be a couple will help the feuding business reunite and save them from a bagel-filled future, but, as we know by now, fake dating never last long and real feelings start to ooze out.
I loved how this story (and I imagine this series) keeps the marrow of what makes me adore Piper Rayne books so much- we have delightful and witty banter, lovable but invasive family and a respectful, but playful family orientation, sweet and sexy chemistry, and two leading characters who are interesting and accessible and relatable.
Our sweet Seth wants to be our #1 man- and BOY does he deliver. He’s funny and sexy- just a delightfully fun and charming hero. But he’s also got some emotional range- we feel his conundrum when it comes to the tension between pleasing his parents and his desired future. Like Seth, Evan too feels the pressure to let go of her ambitions to be there for her family. She’s stoic, dedicated- more even keeled, but very likable. And, like all Piper Rayne books, we have a chemistry that delights- here equal parts sexy and sassy, with a bit of quirkiness as well as that authenticity/familiarity needed in a second chance/friends to lovers type story. We get a smidge of angst- but never too much- just the right amount of emotional tension and romantic tension to make the story interesting but not enough to detract from the light, feel good vibe I love about PR books.
Our Star-Crossed Kiss takes the mother-of-all-angst enemies to lovers stories and makes it a PR delight- charming, sweet, tender, and light hearted. Smiles and swoons abound- you can’t help but be charmed by this sweet and steamy, feel-good story.
Side note: I’ve not read the other books in the series- although the mentions of other characters and the whole vibe of this book certainly makes me want to pick the others up! That said, I had no issue diving into this story without having read the other books prior.
Piper Rayne gives us a modern-day twist on Romeo and Juliet with a friends to enemies to lovers story in Our Star-Crossed Kiss.
I found myself constantly smiling and laughing out loud while reading and especially loved the banter between Seth and Evan and the growth of their relationship. The memories of when they were kids and having fun together when they were allowed to be friends and how they both wanted to get back to that point was heartwarming. I enjoyed catching up with the rest of the crew, love their close-knit friendships and can not wait for Knox’s book.
Another great story from Piper Rayne and addition to The Rooftop Crew. Even though this can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend reading all of the Rooftop Crew books as you will not be disappointed.
I loved this book so much. This book is kind of like a modern day Romeo and Juliet without the death Seth and Evan’s families have been feuding for 20+ years. In order to achieve their goal of freedom from their families’ businesses they decide to fake an engagement in hopes their parents will make up. Let me just say, this goes about as well as you think it will this was such a fun book and a great twist on the fake relationship and star-crossed lovers tropes. I also enjoyed reconnecting with the characters from the previous books as well as the setup for the next couple books.
If you haven’t read anything from Piper Rayne yet, I definitely suggest you do so ASAP!
I’ve been dying for this enemies-to-love romance since I first met Seth in the first book. The Romeo & Juliet vibes had me reading as fast as I could to see what happen and how they would navigate their relationship.
Family feuds should be a more popular trope because I love how fun they can be. They don’t have to be as angsty as Romeo & Juliet and be just as good, and just as entertaining. This story it was way more fun than angsty and I appreciated that so much.
I loved these two so much and was rooting for them before their story even began but I quickly became their number one fan as their story unfolded. It had me smiling, swooning, wanting to smack them, and wanting to hug them!
While I wish we could have seen more of the Rooftop Crew, they had just the right amount of involvement with the way that Seth and Evan’s relationship progressed. I’m so happy we get more of this crew in future books and as always, the set up for the next in the series was perfect and I’m dying to get my hands on it.
Grateful to have received a complimentary ARC copy to honestly review.
I was hooked from the first page! Our Star-Crossed Kiss is the perfect romantic pairing, like a bagel and cream cheese! A family rivalry that leads to a fake engagement, what could possibly go wrong? I fell for both families from the start and loved seeing the interactions, whether it was through friendship, love or hate. Piper Rayne has done it again with this new addition to The Rooftop Crew series. It was almost like watching a reality TV series unfold on the pages, with plenty of laughter, steamy romance and family drama to keep you enthralled until the last page.
Piper Rayne, thank you for giving me that feel good I need along with a huge dose of laughter. Our Star-Crossed Kiss, Book #4 of the Rooftop Crew Series, had me smiling and shaking my head at the same time.
To what extent will people go to keep friendships alive, and to what ends will they go to protect those they love. Oops, did I say love? Family or not, sometimes the best path to success means following your own dreams. And Our Star-Crossed Kiss fills in all the blanks on how to make life successful, even with those you’re not supposed to work with.
Seth and Evan have known each other just about all their lives, but then…family happens.
Opportunities abound for them, but then again…family happens.
With every corner they turn, there it is again…family happens.
Get the picture? Family, you can’t live with them and you can’t shoot them. Well, you are not supposed to anyway. Haha.
What a fun lighthearted story by my favorite authors with plenty of heat, lots of secrets, and surprising discoveries. And in the end, a wonderful union that I had been cheering for since page one. Well worth all the stars. Nice job ladies!
Another great book in The Rooftop Crew series!! I have been so looking forward to Seth and Evan’s story since we first got the little back from the first book in this series. Piper & Rayne did not disappoint!
I was not expecting the twist in this story – not a big twist but just different than I expected – but I loved it. I also loved getting to hear how they were friends back in the day, about their families and their moms, how the feud started and everything that made such a great story. It was also great to hear from some of the other couples and the other solo folks in this book.
What a cliffhanger ending that we got on Knox! I can’t wait for his book!
I couldn’t wait to read Seth & Evan’s story. One thing I found that this book didn’t have is as much steam in there story as others. Seth & Evan give as good as they get with the fun they poke at one another. My favorite parts of the book is where seth would jump into help Evan at all costs even though he didn’t have to . Funny how a bagel shop ages old feud brought this couple together.
I enjoyed this, but I was sad Seth wasn’t my favorite like he said he’d be. I’m giving it 4 out of 5 stars. This review is for an ARC, and reflects my honest opinion.
There was some substance abuse and violence in this book, so trigger warning for that. I liked Evan a lot although not as much as Seth. I appreciated what she did for her family, and I loved all her moments with Seth; however, she was a little underdeveloped in my opinion, which was mainly due to her lifestyle. She was so busy with the shop that she didn’t have hobbies or friends really, and she didn’t spend much time with her family either.
As for Seth, he was a great character. He was charming, funny, cute/hot depending on the moment, etc. He would make a good addition to my book boyfriend list, although he wasn’t my favorite Piper Rayne hero. The star-crossed lovers trope was good, and I thought it was done convincingly. I would have liked more focus on the parents’ feud because I figured a huge secret was going to be dropped, even bigger than the one that was leaked.
I loved the photography aspect of this book as that’s a mostly unexplored passion of mine. I’m a fan of bagels and cream cheese, so having a combo with the best of both worlds sounded amazing. The epilogue was cute, but ended on a bit of a cliffhanger that will have you wanting the next book in your hands ASAP. I can’t recommend this duo of authors enough for fun, fast reads…especially if you love intertwined series and previous characters popping up.
If you’ve read any of the previous Rooftop Crew stories, Evan and Seth’s story was one that’s been teased since the beginning……and Our Star-Crossed Kiss was such a fun and light-hearted story!
Love the Romeo and Juliet vibes between Seth and Evan (without them dying obviously….lol), with their families being rivals in the bagel business. So, when a Food Channel reality show comes to Cliffton Heights, and a spot on the show means they have to join the businesses together…..Seth and Evan concoct a crazy plan to tell their families they have been secretly dating so they will agree to work together. And knowing the feelings Seth has had for Evan for years, you just knew that the lines between pretending to be in a fake relationship and something real would blur pretty quickly – and they sure did. These two had such amazing chemistry and I loved watching them realize their true feelings for one another, as they were always meant to be together.
This series is so much fun and after that ending, I’m super excited to see what happens with Knox next!
I’ve been impatiently waiting for Seths story and it was everything I wanted it to be.
Seth and Evan share a history. Once friends, they turned rivals when their families had a falling out. For years they’ve kept their distance from each other but when the Food Chanel arrives in town, they soon realise that they need to work together if they want a spot on the show. Knowing their parents aren’t going to go for that they come up with the great idea of a fake engagement between the two of them to win their parents over. Of course their parents aren’t just going to accept things at face value and with their demands meaning Seth and Evan have to spend even more time together, it’s only a matter of time before feelings start getting involved.
This is another fun read from Piper Rayne. They have a talent of bringing characters to life that makes reading their books really easy and enjoyable. Definitely recommend reading this book.
This book was everything!!!! Seth is my new favorite hero from Piper Rayne, I couldn’t put down this story, I was hooked from the very first page!
I loved Our Star-Crossed Kiss by Piper Rayne so much and Seth is my favorite in the Rooftop Crew series so far. Seth is such a nice, sweet guy with a sense of humor and he definitely lightens the mood and provide some funny moments in this story. I really liked Seth and Evan together and it was fun watching these two former childhood friends maneuver their way around a fake engagement that ends up turning into real feelings for one another. It was great to see these two come together as friends again and then fall in love despite the family feud between their two family. This was a sexy and fun story that was a great addition to this series and will have you smiling as you read it.
