After a devastating accident crushed my dreams, I ended up back in my hometown teaching kindergarten. I was trying to make the best of it. That is, until the world I had to leave behind, showed up in my classroom in the form of a five-year-old little girl. Her father living the exact life I almost had.Adam Jacobson is known as the bad boy of rock. While he and his band tour the world, they leave … they leave a trail of mayhem. What no one knows is behind the music is a caring, straightedge man with a secret — a daughter who the world is about to discover.
When they move to my small town, their secret is blown. He needs my help to keep her out of the media, and with each exchange we grow closer. Only problem is I need to stay away from the memories he ignites, and the temptations he brings my way.
Secrets I’ve kept and thoughts of that fatal night come crashing back into my life. I have to wonder if it was more than fate that brought his little girl into my classroom.

Do you ever just read a book that puts a smile on your face almost the entire time you are reading it? Have you ever read a book about a single dad that made your ovaries explode? Adam is so swoony and made my heart throb with his relationship with his daughter. Sarah’s dreams and regret made me relate to her on a personal level. The theme of love and acceptance is what really made my heart smile. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to see else Lauren has in store for us!
I loved this book!!! I really enjoyed getting to know the characters. As you read deeer into the story you are introduced to the life of Adam, his band, his secrets. Sarahs tragedy is brought to light. The family and town judgements. The blossoming of an Epic love story. You will swoon and drool over Adam, I promise. He is perfection. The HEA ending brought a HUGE smile to my face as I cried happy tears!! 5 stars!!
OMG! I have nothing to say. I fell completely in love with this book and is one of my top reads of the year. Highly recommend and will recommend to anyone that asks for a recommendation!
This book just hit all my pleasure points!! Not only do I love rockstar romances but single parent books are my thing and this book did me in! This book is about following your dreams even when you think it will be a dead end, it is about not giving up when everyone is standing in your way.
There is so much doubt and love to give surrounding Sarah and Adam and watching them bring it all together for themselves and their loved ones, really made me not only fall in love with the characters but the entire book too! Each problem was fought head on, without a lot of the angsty drama that is in most books.
I can not recommend this book enough and I feel like it should be at the top of everyone’s must read list! This author really put together something special with Our Song and it should not be missed!!
This book couldn’t have been any more perfect than it already was.
I loved it so much and I felt how the author left her own signature, or personal touch as one may say, throughout the whole story because it was so obvious that music is her passion as well as writing and she perfectly mixed them together in this fantastic book.
Her stories pull me in and I always get so lost in them that I’m surprised every time when I reach the end because they always feel so real and I could read forever about her characters and never tire of them. Our Song was such a beautiful story that made me laugh so much. I adored the characters and even cried a couple of times when my heart ached for them. This was yet another beautiful book of hers that touched my heart deeply.
You know when you feel all giddy with excitement as if there are a thousand butterflies in your stomach?! Kind of when you meet your first love and get sweaty hands because you’re so nervous. That’s how this story made me feel. I was on cloud no.9 and felt like meeting my first and one true rock star love and idol. There are no words to do this feeling any justice and I can only urge you to read this book. I’m sure that if you love music as much as I do, you’ll absolutely enjoy this.
The Story:
Sarah always wanted to be a singer and touch people’s hearts with her songs. But one tragic night ended it all. That’s how she found herself teaching at a kindergarten in her small and quiet home town until a pretty little girl with pigtails attends her class and turns Sarah’s world upside down. The world she left behind came crashing back when she met the little girl’s father, a man she admired for years from afar.
Thoughts:
I adored Cailin and was so surprised by her dad’s character who was such an amazing father, down to earth and all around easy going person at home. I absolutely understood his need to feel normal around Sarah and not like the rock star that he was. I actually liked him even better for that. He was only a human being seeking acceptance, like-minded people and someone who saw him as a man and not the person he represented on stage. Because no matter how great his bandmates were, this lifestyle of his could make a person feel very lonely and he wanted to find someone to confide in.
I was in awe of how well he handled it all alone, to protect and care for his daughter while being torn between two worlds that he loved, his music and his kid. He did everything for Cailin and I loved their interaction with each other. They were so cute. Cailin was such a sweet and smart little girl and I loved how happy and content she was even with her dad being gone for weeks.
Although I eventually understood the fear of Sarah’s father for her, I never thought a man like him could be so harsh towards his daughter and judge people because of their profession, taste in music and overall different lifestyle. I know he was an old-school pastor but I really felt sorry for Sarah who was hurting because of his disappointment in her. She couldn’t even be herself in this small town with people who judged someone on their appearance and life choices, so it was even sadder that her dad didn’t have her back. It made me sick how people didn’t even want to get to know a person before they started judging one.
But coming back to the good feelings this story made me feel. I melted into a puddle of goo around Adam because he was such an amazing guy. I was so jittery and really felt Sarah’s nervousness around him. I would totally be fangirling too.
P.S.: The scenes in the recording studio were some of my favorites, as well as chapter 13.
The sexual tension between the characters was off the charts and I loved how it just clicked between them from the very beginning. There was magic in the air. I also liked Sarah’s crazy friend Maggie, the voice of reason *haha*, as well as Adam’s bandmates.
What a gorgeous book! I have neglected everything in order to keep reading and it was worth the pile of dishes in the sink .
A beautiful love story, a debate on the danger of judging those who don’t conform to individual and group ideas on appearance, and headed up by two kind and loving individuals.
Adam and Sarah made my heart sing with their integrity and compassion. They truly fulfilled every romantic expectation. Add to this the fact that the book is so well written, has a totally delightful child in Cailin whose portrayal is witty and sweet, and for me you have a book to which I will return as it will make any day brighter!
Adam Jacobson is covered in tattoos. He has a public persona and a private one, but most people don’t see the private one. He moves to a small country town in northern CA and puts his precocious 5-year-old daughter Cailin into school there. She gets Ms. Sarah Russo as a teacher. Adam is ready to put down some roots. He had a rough start in life and wants to make sure his daughter knows she is loved and never experiences a childhood like the one he lived through. Father and daughter have lots of personal traditions that keep them close, especially since he spends lots of time on the road with his band, Devil’s Breed. The town that he moves into has some small-minded people living in it. They make snap judgements about Adam without taking the time to get to know him. They assume he is a drug user and a horrible father because of his public persona and his tattoos.
Sarah’s father is the pastor of the local church and a leader in town. Ms. Runow captures the small-mindedness of this particular town, complete with snap judgements, petty barbs, and vindictive behavior. All small towns are unique, and fortunately, not all are like this one. Unfortunately, each reader has probably observed petty behavior in others, and Ms. Runow captures it beautifully here. There is a lot of goodness in this story. Sarah keeps her positive outlook in the midst of several pointed barbs aimed at her relationship with Adam. She has a strong sense of spirituality, which is vastly different and more genuine than the religiosity and judgement of the church members who hate him on sight. She takes the time to get to know Adam and Cailin and believes that once people get to know them, they will start to see what she sees in them.
This is a heartwarming story with enough tension to keep the reader engaged and interested in the outcome. Growth occurs when needed, and there is a beautifully rendered ending, with forgiveness, awareness, and acceptance playing major roles.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
What a sweetly romantic heart tugger about falling for a rock star. Adam is a hardcore rocker on the outside (but not the inside) with an adorable little daughter (she stole the spotlight). He just wants a normal life and “to be seen” by a woman for who he is beneath his rocker appearance and world-famous celebrity façade. Sarah and Adam were heartwarming as the repressed preacher’s daughter-turned-kindergarten teacher with broken dreams and the famous rock star who meet when he settles down in her little town as a single dad. Their chemistry is so strong they just may be soulmates, but Adam takes it slow and steady to be certain. Both have secrets of the past and family issues that arise, but nothing is more of an obstacle than small town-mindedness that rejects Adam, while Sarah has yet to stand up to her family, and find her “voice”/identity in pursuit of her own dreams and love. There is a genuine air of realism to their slow-bake love story and some important messages about faith, life, and love that make this romance worth reading.
You know that feeling you get when you hear “our song”, it makes you smile, it makes you feel the love that inspired the choice, well that is how this story, Our Song will make you feel. This is not only a story of love but about faith, hope and believing. This book also shows us not to judge someone from outside appearances as what is on the inside is so much more important. The words will not only serenade your heart but your mind too. As the melody of their attraction lights up your soul Adam and Sarah will bring everything to a crescendo as these two bring each other to life. A heartwarming story that you will lose yourself in and will find hard to put down even at the end. You will hear their words and feel the beat of their hearts as Adam, Sarah and Cailin finally find their song.
This story will definitely one that will grab you and not let go. I really enjoyed reading this one, the characters are so well written you really feel like they are your closest friends. Little Cailin was just so adorable is this story, she will having you smiling and chuckling many times. The strong message in this book, is one I believe many should remember. Don’t judge a book by its cover. This book is definitely worth a read. Would love to see stories on the rest of the band.
“Oh my God, you’re falling for a rock star. Isn’t this the most crazy turn of events in your life?”
Our Song is a fantastic read! Adam is the lead singer in Devils Breed, but he is so much for than that! Lauren has given us a seriously hot rockstar, although when you read how Adam is with his daughter Cailin your ovaries will explode!
Sarah is a kindergarten teacher who has a past that is meant to be kept secret. When fate intervenes and these two meet, its becomes so much more.
Sarah’s father is a devout Christian Pastor who hasn’t practiced what he preaches. Judge not let yea be judged. Can Adam make him see that he only wants the best for Sarah?
With secrets front the past hidden, and a father who will not tolerate Adam can they make there relationship work? Can they make there love become their destiny?
Lauren has written an amazing story, I could not put it down!
OMG did this book surprise me… not in a good way, but a great way!!!
I went into this book thinking it was going to be either your typical rocker book- that the lead singer sleeps with everyone and is a conceited SOB- or a typical good girl falls for the bad boy….. let me tell you the old adage ” don’t judge a book by its cover” is sooo accurate here.
This was a rocker, single dad, clean living good guy who meets the ex-rocker turned kindergarten teacher and what happens between them is simply amazing.
Lauren Runow is a new author to me but not for long…
Are you living your dream? In this wonderful story you meet Sarah, a Kindergarten teacher, and Adam, a rock star. Each has a secret and a dream. Will their dreams come true?
I love books that touch me with their powerful ending. This one hits me right in the heart. I couldn’t put this one down. It not only had me tearing up at the end, but touched me with a sense of ‘yes, this is the way life should be!’ You will want to pick up this powerful story and read it for yourself. Wish I could give more than 5 stars!
4.5 stars
“How is the guy I thought was the ultimate bad boy turning out to be anything but?”
Lauren has a beautiful way with words and she proofed this yet again with this book. The story of Sarah and Adam plays every single emotional chord within your heart. This is one of those books I dreaded to end but couldn’t read it fast enough at the same time.
“I allow her to catch me as I fall for her even more.”
Adam is a dream come true. If I could bake my dream guy he would definitely be like Adam. I’m a sucker for rockstars and if it’s one with a beautiful soul, a heart of gold and a daughter like Cailin I’m definitely a goner.
Sarah is also a captivating soul, beautiful inside out. I love how she cared for Cailin and later for Adam. I loved how she came back to her old self and how Adam was the reason for it. Their chemistry is off the charts and adorably addicting.
Cailin was definitely the highlight and sunshine through this whole book. I loved her to bits and pieces. And the way Adam was with his daughter was absolutely heart-melting.
“Magic. Nothing but pure magic fills the air as we sing in tune for the first time together.”
Our Song is a reminder that we should remember our dreams and fight for them. I loved every note of it.
Great love story between two people who share a love for music and family.
Adam is currently living the dream on the top of his career while being a single dad to a precious kindergartener. Sarah is currently a kindergarten teacher in her small home town after she lost her dream of being a musician.
Sometimes god has other plans for us, maybe our dreams just need to be postponed until we have the perfect partner to share our dreams with. It is a hot and steamy read, with a side of small old school town values that become obstacles in Sarah’s happiness. Sarah but her faith in god that if she was meant to be with Adam and to make music again then God would lead the way to her HEA.
Our Song was another great read by Lauren Runow. I loved it alot! I love single father romance and this was even better because he was a rockstar! Adam was sexy and swoony. I loved seeing him with Cailin. Their relationship was adorable. Sarah was such a sweet woman. Adam and Sarah were just so perfect together. Their chemistry and love was everything! Loved loved them! Definitely recommend this book!
WOW! Our Song by romance author Lauren Runow is in-freaking-credible! There have been very few books lately that have made me feel the way I do right now after having finished reading this story! I really, really did not want this book to end, and am hoping we will see more beyond this in the future! It is everything!
The way the author incorporated the singing (at church, home, etc)…is so smoothly blended into the storyline! The characters are so well developed and just so perfectly written! From rock star Adam Jacobson, pastor’s daughter-singer-turned-kindergarten teacher Sarah Russo, Adam’s adorable 6 year old daughter Cailin, the band, Sarah’s judgmental pastor father and family, Maggie, to Linda….I am so in love with all the characters in Our Song! I love how Ms. Runow wrote both Adam and Sarah’s characters so, so, so much; I could feel them in my soul!
“My heart is pounding out of control. I feel like I’ve taken my first hit of drugs, and I’m addicted—addicted so bad that I might not be able to breathe if I don’t get more.”
This love story has several topics the author addressed…single parent, rock star, small town, religion, child neglect/abuse, foster children, drugs/alcohol abuse, death, dreams and aspirations. Lauren Runow did an absolutely amazing job wrapping all of these situations into this phenomenal story line that will have you heartbroken, cringing, swooning, and honestly thinking about your stance on some of these topics, and how you are with stereotypes.
This is one of those you-will-not-want-to-put-it-down books! It will give you “all the feels!” It is a solid 5 star read!
This isn’t your typical rock star book with a hot alpha male that thinks he’s gods gift to women. Adam has a past that he doesn’t want to repeat for his future so he works hard to be something different, don’t get me wrong he is hot as sin, but he is kind and gentle and just wants to be a good dad to Cailin. Sarah wanted Adam’s life, but a cruel twist of fate ended that for her and now she is home in her small town following her mother as a kindergarten teacher. I love how both Adam and Sarah are strong on their own, but find additional strength within each other. This is hands down one of my favourite books that I have read by Lauren Runow and I have enjoyed them all. Cailin is just an added burst of sunshine through out this book and she made me laugh out loud so many times. Great job on this one Lauren!!!! I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book
Lauren Runow did it again! Our Song was perfection. Adam, the rockstar with a hard outer shell and soft gooey center for his little girl Cailin, did not expect to find the woman who makes him want more in his daughter’s teacher. And Sarah, who’s hiding from her past, didn’t expect to come face to face with it in her small, country town. But when these two meet the attraction is undeniable. Our Song is a beautiful story that encompasses healing, learning to let someone in, and being true to who you are. I highly recommend this… or any Lauren Runow book!
The prologue featuring our heroine, Sarah, leaves you holding your breath until her story slowly unfolds. Her dream of almost attaining literally “rock star status” appears to have slipped through her fingers. Not only do we feel her deep disappointment of realizing her dream shattered, but we also feel her conflict when she meets our Hero, Adam, an actual successful rock star who represents what her life could have been. She’s had a fan-girl crush on him and his band for a long time, but Adam becomes more real when she realizes he’s a caring dad of Cailin, one of her kindergarten students. As a rock star, Adam is constantly surrounded by either superficial people wishing to share in his limelight, or “yes-people” who will do and say anything just to please him, so when Cailin, and her caregiver, Linda, share what a kind person our heroine is, Adam wants to know more about Sarah. The attraction sizzles between them, but the romantic rock star takes it slow sensing Sarah is special.
The author does a great job, drawing out the angst Sarah is carrying as a result of her accident, and in building their romance gradually until it combusts! So many heart-wrenching feels throughout, especially the end. Love the tie-in to the actual song and music video, Hear Me Now by Bad Wolves featuring Diamante.
