When you fall in love with your best friend, it’s the kind of love that’s supposed to last forever. Jo Donovan was a true believer of happily ever afters—until her best friend, Christopher, was killed in Afghanistan, destroying her belief that fairy-tale endings existed. Destroying her. Destroying her world. Five years later… finds herself still stuck in the past, unable to find closure with Christopher’s death.
When she moves to Austin, Texas, with her son, Junior, she’s finally given the fresh start she’s been desperately seeking.
What she doesn’t know is that the fresh start comes in the form of her sexy neighbor, Drew Greyson.
Their friendship starts off rocky, but eventually, a spark between them ignites. It isn’t long before that spark turns explosive, and she finds herself falling for him.
Drew wants to be her everything, her forever, but will Jo’s pain from losing Christopher stop her from following her heart?

must have hankies for this one
Jo’s story is touching and has your emotions all over the place. She found the love of her life at the age of five and lost him before she was thirty! I can’t imagine how I would handle that situation. She moves from all the memories to a new place for her son and meets Drew. Their beginning starts off rocky but before long they are fast becoming more than just neighbors. I loved his character and how he helped Jo move from a bad place in her life to one of happiness and enjoying life again.
I think this is now my favorite book by Elena Matthews. I absolutely loved Jo and Drew’s story. Please have tissues close, when reading this emotional story. You’ll also laugh out loud a bunch, especially with some of Junior’s comments. I won’t leave any spoilers because I really hope everyone reads this book and learns why I love it so much.
Beautiful
This was a story that was very hard to put down. Jo lost her best friend \love of her life while he was in Afghanistan. Their son Junior was her everything for the next 5 years. Thank goodness for Christopher’s brothers and parents they have helped her and best friend. But with the loss of her job they move to Austin. The first night there her neighbor wakes her up with loud music. Drew apologizes with cupcakes at her door step. Little did they know that would be their beginning to forever
So sweet, steamy, and gives you all the good feelings!!
Jo has had a tragic thing happen in her life and she has to move for a new job. She moves into an apartment complex and meets a very annoying neighbor. It is been 5 years since tragic thing happened. She is not in a place to let someone in to love her. Her neighbor, Drew, is the sweetest kindest guy (aside from the loud music at 2 am). He gets to know her and breaks through all the layers of her heart. He is always there for her no matter what situation arises. He then is in a bike accident and she has to sit by his side while fighting for his life. She has flashbacks of times before and the tragedy she faced, but she sticks with him through it all.
This is one of the sweetest stories. You could feel the love and heat from both of them through the words of the author. It made me wish I had a man like drew who is kind, sweet and devoted to her. It gave me all good feelings and I couldn’t put it down. Well written and I am looking forward to reading more from this author.
Go buy this book today. It was a truly amazing love story of devotion and second chances at love. You won’t regret this purchase!
This is the first book I have read by Elena Matthews. I can honestly say that from the first chapter it had me wanting to read more. Being a military spouse myself, and being surrounded with that never ending fear, I already caught myself with tears in my eyes within the first chapter. Jo is such an amazing mom and a true survivor, even if she still hasn’t overcome her grief. Her son Junior was adorable and so full of love for his mom. Drew was the most wonderful man ever. His love for Jo and his acceptance and understanding for what she was going through was amazing to read. Not all men would be so accepting.
I enjoyed watching Drew help heal Jo while their love for each other grew. I enjoyed watching them become a family, especially since Drew initially said “Kids are great. They’re just not great with me.”
The added Captain America/Wonder Woman/Spider-Man humor was an added bonus. Not to mention I loved Jo’s sarcasm and Drew’s wit with “sugar”
This was definitely a wonderfully emotional ride and I look forward to reading more by this author.
