“A heart-stoppingly romantic read that proves love has the power to conquer all of life’s challenges, no matter how hopeless reality seems.” – ObsessedwithHEA Blog
She was the hot mess who stumbled through his door… He was the one who gave her a chance… When Elle Callihan finds herself on the twenty-sixth floor of the country’s top publishing firm after putting her dreams on hold for five … finds herself on the twenty-sixth floor of the country’s top publishing firm after putting her dreams on hold for five years, she’s not about to allow the opportunity to slip through her fingers.
There’s just one problem.
Her new, humorless, this-needs-to-be-done-right-now, jerk of a boss makes her working life a living hell.
With the minutes on his own clock ticking, CEO and certified workaholic, Owen Caldwell, has no time for anything. Not relationships. Not life. And certainly not the connection that simmers between himself and his new assistant.
As the pair work together, their undeniable attraction draws them closer, bringing a realization that sometimes life and the people in it are worth slowing down for. But when Elle is presented with a plot twist she never saw coming, she quickly learns that crafting her own story may be much harder than she initially thought.
Faced with a difficult decision, she has two choices: write the truth or deliver an alternate ending she knows they both deserve.more
5 heart-warming stars! This book will squeeze your heart and it will leave you breathless.
“Tell me I’m not the only one feeling this. Tell me you want me too.”
Holy heaven! Can you hear that…? It is my heart doing pum, pum, pum inside my chest. After finishing this book, it stills beating faster as humming bird’s wings. Our Alternate Ending by Katie Fox is a painfully beautiful book that squeezed my heart so tightly that I felt like I couldn’t breathe. This is the kind of book that will make you feel a roll coaster of emotions. I laughed and I cried like a baby. The story inside the pages of this book is strongly compelling and the characters are wonderfully strong and complex. Each page was a delicious pleasure that had me at the edge of my sit. I literally devoured this book in one sitting.
This is a deep and emotional read that will warm your soul in a painful way. This book deserves more than only five stars because books like this are hardly written. The plot is unique. All about this book is pure perfection from the cover to the addictive pages that make this a masterpiece worthy of reading.
Katie Fox delivers a tender book. It is the first time I read something from her and it amazed me how strong and brilliant is her writing. She clearly puts her heart in everything she writes because her characters feel so human and real. I am so glad I had the opportunity to read one of her books because this won’t be the last time. This is just the beginning of a “sane” stalk relationship. I’m already addictive to her writing.
I am not the kind of bookworm that mixes books and music because I feel quite distracted but Katie Fox changed my mind radically. She did an excellent job in putting together a bunch of songs to create the perfect playlist for this book. I highly recommend you to read the book while you listen to the playlist she created in Spotify.
Katie gifted us a wonderful romance where hope and fate are the main topics. This is a real romance between two souls that found their half in the right moment and when they most needed. Owen and Elle are in the top of my favourite book couples. They are a match made by fate and hope. They are the proof that miracles exist.
“Elle Callihan was going to give my life meaning. Fate, or whoever it was that controlled the universe, deliberately put her in my path, teasing me with temptation and something more I could never have.”
I found myself pretty identified with Elle because I experienced the same shame as hers in my first interview. Elle’s interview reminded me of my first interview for getting the job I wanted (btw us: it was my first job lol)! I had a little issue in the subway and I broke my boot heel but I took the interview. Fortunately my boss wasn’t a jerk like Owen and I got the job just as Elle.
“How did he have the ability to twist me into knots when he wasn’t even near?”
Yes. This is an office romance with many sentimental shades. I don’t blame Elle for falling for her boss. Owen is the kind of man who is hard not to fall for. His attitude is devastating and too intimidating. He has the power to expose your desires and fears with only one glance. He is dangerous in a good way.
“She was an angel in disguise, here to save me with her smiles and her laughter, with her selfless love.”
The heroine of this book is a strong young woman who is quite scared of following her dreams. But Owen will encourage her to live at the fullest and to chase her dreams at any cost. He is the only one who knows what buttons he has to press in order to awake her most intimate dreams.
“The man who had given me a chance had turned out to be the same person who had given me everything.”
This book is a powerful combination of an emotional romance and an employee-boss-romance. Prepare yourself for a mind-blowing read, an all-consuming story that will leave you breathless and exceptional and well developed characters.
I highly recommend you this book. It is a must read you won’t want to miss. There is not greater pleasure than this. An original story, wonderful characters and a sweet and forbidden romance is the kind of combination that leads to a best seller.
There are not enough words to express how much I love this book. I am left with a massive book hang over.
I listened to this on Audible. I loved this story. And I’m pretty sure I’d love it on audio or reading it. This was my first book by Katie Fox, and I loved the way she developed characters. I loved the way their story came together. Beautiful writing and great storytelling. Highly recommend!
“My body melded right into her softness, like two puzzle pieces made for a perfect fit.”
Our Alternate Ending was my blind date for March and in no universe I would have wanted to miss out on this one. Katie Fox is new to me and the chance I would have missed this beauty is pretty high. So I got more than lucky with my blind date.
“I want to know what it feels like to be on the receiving end of extraordinary.”
This book touched parts of my soul and heart that are usually very well guarded. It pierced right trough my armor and hit its mark. Our Alternate Ending is an emotional roller-coaster par excellence I wasn’t prepared for. Not even close.
Katie has a wonderful way to bring her characters to live, they felt so raw and real that I almost thought they were part of my real life.
“My feet carried me toward her as if she were the other half of my magnet, the polar opposite in need of its charge.”
Elle’s and Owen’s story is intense and I’m not sure if I can find the right words to write this review to do this story any justice. And I don’t trust myself to not write anything that will spoil the story for you. My best recommendation I can give is: GO IN BLIND! Don’t read any reviews. If you are interested because of the blurb and the cover and maybe because of (hopefully all the rightly deserved high ratings), trust your gut and dive in without catching any spoilers.
“It wasn’t liking her that scared me. It was falling in love with her that did.”
Our Alternate Ending tells us a wonderful journey of two people clearly meant to be and how they fell in love with each other. How they make the life of each other brighter just with being there. If two people are clearly made for each other, it’s Elle and Owen. She’s his angel and he’s her white knight meeting right on time when there is no greater need for the other.
“Want by definition, was to have a desire to possess or to do. And fuck me, I wanted to do. I wanted to possess. Every. Single. Beautiful. Inch.”
Let alone thinking and writing about their beautiful and true love make my eyes water. It starts out slowly, with funny banter and a chemistry of the charts. It was great watching them falling for each other and trying to deny it at the same time. Until … until they both realize there is more to the harmless flirting. So much more, much deeper and both are afraid admitting it. Both for totally different reasons and one more than the other.
“I don’t want you to remember me as the man who broke your heart but rather the man who gave it a reason to beat.”
I totally see where Owen is coming from, closing off on all people who love him. I understand why he denies himself his own luck at first. Therefore it’s great to see when he starts to open up, letting Elle in his life and in his heart. He’s such a great guy that deserves all the love Elle has to give.
“We were two lovers, defeated and broken – two people destroyed by one harrowing truth.”
Elle is wonderful and strong. Aiming high with her goals and dreams without letting down the people she loves most. Putting others first and her own dreams second, because she cares more than a soul should be able to bear. Owen sees right through her facade and pushes her boundaries so the starts to see the incredible woman she is, that all others already see in her.
“He had become my home, my solace, the missing piece of myself I didn’t even realize I’d been missing.”
Like every good romance novel there has to be a point where your heart breaks. And mine shattered in million pieces. It was clearly hard for me to read through those pages without crying too much. If you come to this point in this Elle’s and Owen’s story you know why you desperately want an alternate ending for them. The heartache cuts deep and leaves you bleeding until the end.
But reading the Note From The Author was what finally broke my resolve. My body was left with a combination of goose bumps and tears.
“I can’t give you forever, but I can give you right now. I can love you with all of me until I can’t, and even then, I’ll still love you because a love like this is one that doesn’t falter; it’s eternal; it’s infinite.”
I put my favorite quotes out of the book in this review. And there were so many more. But I couldn’t take them as they would have been spoiler to the story. Just let me tell you, that Elle’s and Owen’s words, thoughts and feelings for each other are incredible. Katie did a wonderful job describing them with her words.
I can’t thank Katie enough for giving us Our Alternate Ending. Highly recommended!
5 glorious amazing stars. This story was beautiful, angsty and emotional. I have to say this cover had me thinking when I first saw it, but after I’ve read this book, I totally get it. I can not just pick 1 favorite character because well Elle and Owen are amazing, and Drew and Millie were the perfect supporting characters. All That’s left to say is you need to read this story, it will leave you feeling complete, or broken, take your pick.
O mylanta what an amazing book! This book had it all!
Owen and Elle stole my heart! This is a story of two people destined to be together. Even when the universe (and Owen) are saying they shouldn’t be together they somehow make it through!
“Nobody truly has forever. Nobody is promised tomorrow. The important thing was I had right now, and that was more than enough for the both of us.”
This book is one of the best ones I have read so far this year! Cannot give Katie Fox enough praise for this book! (She made me cry!!! and I hardly ever cry with books!!!)
There are hardly words to describe the emotions that this book made me feel while reading it. This book was one that made me feel emotionally attached to each of the characters. They had this perfect chemistry between them. Even when they tried to deny that there was something between them. Owen was ready to give up and not fight for his life. That is until he finally allows himself to really love Elle. This is a story that will touch your heart and make you believe that love can heal. You will laugh, you will smile, and you will cry. I want a love like Owen and Elle have. Owen says it right to Elle:
“I can’t give you forever, but I can give you right now. I can love you right now. I can love you with all of me until I can’t, and even then, I’ll still love you because a love like this is one that doesn’t falter; it’s eternal; it’s infinite.”
I knew that just like most romances that there is an HEA, I just didn’t know how this HEA was going to be. And no matter how many times I found myself fighting back tears while reading this one, I just couldn’t put this one down. And having this one being duel POV made it so that as a reader I was able to see things through both sets of eyes. And I am glad to say that this was an emotional rollercoaster that was worth the ride.
4.5 Stars
I picked up this book because Katie Fox happens to be at an author signing that I am attending later this year. I had never read her prior to Our Alternate Ending, and I must say, I was very impressed with this book and author!
I am a sucker for a book that makes me cry- I loved getting sucked in emotionally by the characters, and I did get sucked in right from the beginning. Owen and Ellie drew me in, and I needed them to find their happily ever after, and Katie Fox kept me on my toes, guessing as to what was going to happen.
I am so thrilled that I picked up Our Alternate Ending, and got to experience a new-to-me author in Katie Fox. I will certainly look for more books by her!
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL ! Owen and Elle’ s story will rip your heart open and then fill it piece by piece.
“It wasn’t liking her that scared me. It was falling in love with her that did.”
From the moment you start reading you’re sucked in. Elle is so real, she’s everyone who’s ever had a dream. Owen may have come off as a jerk at first but you can sense that we’re missing a part to him.
I love how It’s a slow, all consuming type of love. These characters bring so much hope to your lives. But you know that somethings coming and you try to prepare but when all truths surface your heart will break and break.
“We were two lovers, defeated and broken-two people destroyed by one harrowing truth. ”
Talk about an emotional rollercoaster! I promise that you will go through every emotion in the time you read this story. There’s joy, anger, pain, fear, love, hope. And I can tell you by the end your heart will be so full. Owen and Elle’ s story will stay with you for a long time. It’s so real and honest . To simply call this a story is an understatement though because it’s so much more, it’s life.
“At the very least…there are about a quarter of a million words in the English language–”
Thank you Katie Fox for giving us Our Alternate Ending. It was absolutely one of my favorite reads.
*ARC received in exchange for an honest review.
Have you ever read a book that’s left you completely and utterly speechless. I mean a mind blowing, heart pounding, tear jerking, emotion producing on all ends of the spectrum, book that has you reevaluating and being so much more grateful for everything you have in your life. A book so incredible that I can’t even bring myself to message the author before writing this out loud for everyone to see.
You see, Katie Fox, you’ve truly put me through the ringer and guess what?
“At the very least, there are about a quarter million words in the English language. I want one of them from you. I don’t want you to think about your answer. I just want the first word that enters your mind. Okay?”
Stunning.
When it releases, I give it my highest recommendation for you all to pick up this damn beautiful book and live it (yes, I meant live not love but you can also do that too.) I can’t give it enough praise, and although, as Owen says, at the very least there are about a quarter million words in the English language, I can’t come up with enough for how utterly fantastic this story is.
Katie has become a unicorn author for me, one I want to read everything she ever writes without an inch of coercion. She breathes life into words that brand themselves onto your soul.
Seriously, read the book!
I have never read Katie Fox prior to today and I must say, she absolutely has a new fan. Our Alternate Ending is not just a love story, this is a story of two souls destined to be together, regardless of how much they fight it.
Elle and Owen are amazing characters with a beautiful story to share and in all honesty, this book is making me take a look at my life right now and what I need to do to live every single day to the fullest.
I am at a complete loss for words for this review, there are just no words to even begin to explain this beautiful story. This book took me thru every single emotion and then some, which was completely unexpected and surprising. I am in total awe of Katie Fox and I can’t even being to tell you how this book has changed my life.
Elle’s a hot mess, but she has a dream. Now, all she needs is a chance. When she shows up to an interview with a broken heel, coffee covered blouse and wet hair, Owen Caldwell sends her packing. But he can’t get her out of his head.
When she runs into Owen Caldwell while working at the public library she never expects for him to offer her a job. While her pride says to tell him no, Elle can’t pass up the chance to work for one of the country’s top publishing companies. Unfortunately, he’s kind of a jerk of a boss.
Owen has his own reasons for not forming attachments and focussing on work. He sees something in Elle, however, that has him rethinking his priorities and wishing for things he can never have, including her. Elle is a bright light that draws others to her and her passion for the written word is evident. It’s why Owen feels he needs to push her so hard . . . he knows she can have her dreams.
What they didn’t expect was to fall in love . . . and it a true slow burn of a relationship that can’t be denied as their passion soars incredibly hot. Some relationships, however, really are not meant to be and not everyone can have the happy ending they want. When Owen shares with Elle the plot twist she could have never seen coming she needs to make the hardest decision of her life. She can either live life to the fullest now, knowing there will be pain later or walk away full of regret. It’s up to her to write their ending.
First, I fell in love with Elle. I love that she is passionate about books and writing and can pull others in by her exuberance. I adore that while she tries to have it together she is a hot mess. I love how she leans on her bestie for stability and advice and that she always puts her family and those she cares about first in her life. She’s loving and supportive and all around awesome.
Owen is heartbreaking. How we first see him is not his true self, but he has been dealt a raw deal and is simply trying to cope with his new reality. By cutting off relationships and emotions, he really feels he is protecting those he cares about most. When Elle breezes into his life, she makes him want to start living life to the fullest extent that he can and it’s beautiful and heartbreaking to watch.
This book was quite possibly the most emotional book I have ever read. I had ugly tears multiple times and my throat kept getting clogged up. It’s completely heartbreaking. It’s also such an amazingly beautiful story that I know it will stay with for for awhile and made every tear worth it! I really cannot say enough about this story. 5 Stars!
What did I like the most? “At the very least there are a quarter million words in the English language…” to pick just one would be doing this story an Injustice. The book was written at such a pace that I was flipping the pages because I wanted, no I NEEDED to know what was going to happen next.
I don’t want to give anything away so I will simply say that this book could not have had an alternative ending and still hold the punch it did
This is the first book I’ve read by this author and I will be reading more in the future!
I honestly don’t know what to say about this book. It is unlike any book I have read before. It left me heartbroken and speechless in place. Then laughing and smiling in others. It tears at your heart and leaves you numb from the words written. Willing it all to be wrong and there to be an alternative ending.
I loved the start Elle is so unlucky. she just wants to follow her dreams. To do that she needs to land this job. But turning up late, with a broken heal, wet hair and coffee a stained blouse isn’t the way to make a first impression.
Owen doesn’t know what to make of the woman who just tumbled into his office. She has no qualifications but there is just something about her. Something that makes him want to give her a chance.
There are secrets and lies along the way. But when the truth is revealed are the feelings that have grown enough to save them?
As I’m sitting here with tears streaming down my face, I’m trying to relay the emotional journey this book takes you on. Destiny put Elle and Owen in each others paths. This book made my heart swell with so much love but also tore my heart to shreds to rebuild again. This story reminds you to love like there is no tomorrow. Never hold your feelings back. Never take a moment for granted. A beautiful broken man and a woman with a heart of gold and the tenacity to take life by the horns. Our Alternate Ending. A perfect name for an amazing story.
At the very least, there are about a quarter million words in the English language. I want one of them from you.”
Amazing!
I call this story amazing, since it is the best word I can possibly think of to describe it.It really is an amazing story. It’s sweet and so damn emotional! I freaking love it. Katie did so good writing this story. It flows so easily and is such a beautiful story.
From the start when Elle stumbles into Owens life the story pulled me in and I didn’t want to put it down. It brings you up and drops you down then does it all over again. Oh how I loved Owen…
The emotional ups and downs had me in tears more than once. I cried a lot. This book tore me up. My favorite kind of stories to read.
If you enjoy a good romance that’ll kick you in the heart and make you feel then this is the story for you!! Read it you won’t regret it.
“How did you find me, huh? You walked right into my life when I needed you the most.”
“Easy.” She kissed me softly. “I followed my heart.”
