Really good story. Makes me thankful for my cushy life.
This is a wonderful story with characters one comes to care about. The plight of these poor children is heartbreaking, but the fact so many loving families took them in is a testament to human kindness. The people who took care of placing them and taking them across the country were American heros.
Great read!
well written brought the characters alive
Enjoyable
I enjoyed this well crafted story enough that I had to get the next book as well. (This one ends without a cliffhanger, so it can be read as a stand alone story, but I wanted to continue the journey.) I enjoyed reading more about this era in New York and about the orphan trains without being hit over the head with unhappy endings. The characters in this book were well developed and interesting. You wanted to know more about them and you wanted them to find happiness.
This book may bring you to tears as you follow and the stories of orphans and those trying to help them in the late 1800s. Based on actual facts of how families were often seperated after losing both parts or suffering economic disaster. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
Very good read
Loved this book. A good story and a love story that wasn’t pornographic as so many are now.
Well written with good character development. Some parents predictable.
A fantastic picture of what women and children went through in that time period.
It shows a good picture of the history of the time. Well written.
Appreciated the locality
I could not put this book down! I at one time had tears near the end of the novel. Please read this book!
This is my first book by this author, but not the first I have read about the orphan trains. It is a tragic time, when life is New York is difficult and dangerous for anyone, but especially women and children. An easy, good read.
A rather sad book. Not too much happiness in it.
I enjoyed this book. It was interesting to see what happened to children at that time.
Enjoyed the adventures they use to get you into wanting to read more
