Very relevant to understand today’s issues.
Very good
Best series I’ve read in awhile.
This book showcases the terrible world and situation shared by many poverty-struck children in our largest cities and the impacts on their lives made by charitable organizations and their decisions.
This book gave me a peek into the lives of the unfortunate poor people in crowded New York City and what could happen to families when a parent or both parents is suddenly out of the picture. It showed the real life struggles to keep families together at a time when not much, if any, help was available to them. It really makes you think and appreciate the help systems available now….even though they are not perfect. I think that the author captured the time period and emotions of the characters very well.
It was a great read. A real tear jerker that captivates.
too many typos…lack of editing…story is historically unrealistic
I’ve read the Author before and gained more insight into lives and history of New York City. Economics and health issues for the poor and orphaned were abysmal. Being sent away on the train was a hope for a better life. For many children it ended in horrible abuse while indentured servitude. No recourse or help. Living or dying was just another day of endless tragedy. For those who made it living meant a lifetime of struggle. My heart is heavy for all of the lost children no one loved. This author gave me hope somewhere someone began to care.
Super book. I enjoyed reading it.
Interesting subject
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Some sad times, but also happy times.
I really enjoyed this book, and it is hard to believe that children were treated in the ways depicted in the book. Just a matter of luck whether their lives were happy or utterly miserable. The storyline was good and I will look for the next book at a reaonable price.
I have read other novels about the Orphan Trains and the stories are always interesting. This one was as well and I look forward to following the characters in future books in the series.
This was a heart warming story with a lot of historic facts mixed in, some quite sad. Happy ending though
Based in real info
Having only heard my parents and grandparents speak of the hard times during this era, this book opened my eyes to how tragic things really were. Makes me realize how grateful I should be for what God has given me. Also, how quickly things can be taken from us. The awareness to be prepared for anything is evident in this story.
Story was sad and happy . Made you think about life in those times . Yet had a uplifting ending .
What an honest author. He’s willing to revisit old pain. It’s an inspiration to those who grew up with abuse. Human fortitude can cause miracles to happen.
Rather predictable but decent read. Won’t pursue rest of series.
Well written, historical information. Captured the characters personalities. Look forward to another Orphan Train e-book.
