This is the first book in the series and was a very emotional read. The author did an excellent job in portraying the trip on the orphan train. It was evident that she had done extensive research on the subject.
The main character, Bridget, was a loving and caring young woman who took her job seriously as a placement officer. Carl, the man she worked with on the train, seemed to care but also seemed to be hiding something.
You will want to keep a lot of tissues handy. Lots of heartwrenching moments, as well as, happy ones. I can’t wait to read book 2.
Wonderful story and follow up to Orphan Train. Characters are memorable and story uplifting, even for those hard times.
Fantastic look back into history!!! Loved it!!!
This was amazing.
Loved this story… want to learn more about the orphan trains.
The story about these children is so moving. The writing is good, too, vivid and touching. The story makes readers believe that there is still good people out there.
SAD THAT THIS HAPPENED BUT GLAD THAT SOME GOT A BETTER LIFE.
The lives of the people have been working to finally have shared joy show that determination can lead to joy.
This is so much more than a romance story, and I enjoyed that! I knew very little of the orphan trains of American history, so it was enlightening to read what this piece of our past may have been like for some. I love that the romance is so subtle and the rest of the story is in the foreground continually. It makes the ending all the sweeter. There is not much to feed the soul spiritually, except a lot of trying circumstances that might help one understand others more and make one slower to judge and quicker to practice hospitality and kindness.
History
This story had me turning the pages to learn the fate of those children, and I enjoyed learning a little bit of American history I was unaware of.
I found this book and the other two in the series to be informative and engaging. I wanted to learn more about the characters. I want to learn more about the orphan trains. I wonder how many of the families in Montana, Wyoming and Colorado began with family members who came West on the orphan trains. We learn a lot about those who came for the gold, silver and land but I had not been aware of the orphans. A great historical fiction and a good read.
Interesting have a very elderly in law we believe came on an orphan train.
it was a compelling story of an extremely strong family bond that would not and could not be broken.
The ups and downs made this a real page turner.
Good read.
Always enjoy her stories, realistic, funny, tragic, you have it all.
I didn’t want to put it down. Great story teller.
Tv
I enjoyed this book and learning about the orphans in the early 1900s. It’s a very good historical fiction
Shows what a hard life people had in the best of times if you didn’t have a good paying job. Women depended on men to make a living and take care of the family
If a childs mother and father weren’t in the picture or relatives than that child could be taken in by child abusers or predators.
