Adam Hartzler has always been an honorable immortal, but the fine line between right and wrong begins to blur when he is called to his true mate. If he does not find and claim her soon, he will lose his soul and humanity, transforming into a vile predator controlled by insatiable bloodlust, sentenced to a demonic and tortured eternity as a vampire. Adam sets out on a quest to hunt his mate and … mate and claim her before it is too late. His salvation relies on his destined mate’s surrender, but when she refuses to cooperate, Adam must set aside his morals and do what is needed to survive. Time’s slipping away with his control, and his territorial instincts refuse to let her go.
Annalise Snow awakens on a primitive farm removed from modern civilization and in fear of her life. Her captor is determined to keep her prisoner and believes he is somehow entitled to her future. But she will not surrender easily. When Adam asks for the ultimate sacrifice, she must decide if he lives or dies.
Passion and emotion collide in an explosive meeting of destined souls, but love is never a guarantee, especially when eternity begins with betrayal.

This is the first book in The Order of Vampires Series. Adam and Annalise’s Amish Romance is original. Adam is possessive, protective, and intense. Annalise is strong, open minded, and supportive. The side characters are great, and they have an important part in this story. The world building is intriguing and slow paced. Lucinda Gainey did a good job with the narration. #AudiobookObsession

Original Sin by Lydia Michaels is a paranormal romance that I listened to on audio narrated by Lucinda Gainey.
This is the first book of Lydia’s that I have read and I look forward to reading more of her work in the future. I really enjoyed the twist on the normal Vampire theme with them being Amish or at least living like the Amish. I really enjoyed the relationship between Adam and Annalise. I loved that Annalise pushed the boundaries of her relationship with Adam and his family way of living.
This is the first book of The Order of Vampires series and I can’t wait to see an announcement for the second book. I am going off a feeling that the next book will follow a different couple within the community with the references that were given.
Lucinda did a great job on the narration. I liked that she used different tones/voices for each character. It really brought the story to life.
I would recommend this book if you like paranormal romance or romantic suspense.

Awesome Story & Narration Captivating Paranormal Romance!
The Order of Vampires, Book 1
By: Lydia Michaels
Narrated by: Lucinda Gainey
Wow, this book took me completely by surprise, in a really good way. It is well written and uniquely original with fascinating storylines that grabbed my attention right from the start and held it the entire book. This is my first Lydia Michaels book and it will not be my last, she is a gifted author with a fabulously creative and imaginative mind who put her own twist on vampires and paranormal romance. There is great world building and character development. Adam Hartzler is an immortal living a simple and faithful life, he lives with his parents, a twin brother Caine and sister Grace. In addition to his immortality he has other gifts as does his siblings and others of his kind. When he gets the calling he must go and find his true mate. Annalise Snow was working her way thru school, she does not have much of a life other working and studying, her goal is a career in medicine. Then strange things start to happen, she starts to have strange dreams and then a new man, Adam, appears in her life and she does not know what to think. Adam found his mate but he is in for a big challenge to not only win her over but to explain his world to the mere mortal, Annalise. She is a strong willed independent woman and making matters worse is his social inadequacy and his inability to adapt outside the life he is used to, it is too busy and overwhelming him. So he does what he has to do and brings her back to his home. I loved how everything plays out in this book, it is cleverly plotted with plenty of drama, angst, twists and turns that will has you spinning, thrilling & suspenseful moment, some mystery, heartfelt and emotional moments and a great romance. Lydia Michaels, thank you for this awesome story, I am looking forward to what comes next in these amazing characters in the fascinating world you created.
I listened to the Audible edition, Lucinda Gainey is a talented narrator and voice actor. She brings the characters to life, humanizing them by giving them their personality and including all their emotions which is heard in her performance. She does a great job covering both male and female roles, giving each character their own distinct voice and sound, which makes it easy to follow along. Her portrayal of the characters is spot on, sounding just as I picture them to sound. She is an entertaining storyteller and a pleasure to listen to. Thank you for this awesome listen, I am looking forward to hearing more of your work.
I love dark vampires, and I love Lydia Michaels, so this is the ultimate double-penetration.
Rich world-building paired with a sweet love story makes this Amish romance uniquely unforgettable. And oh boy, it’s hot! 5 stars! I highly recommend.
“Wow! Wow! Such an intense and wonderful story. I’ve read lots of paranormal stories and so far vampire romance has always been favorite and Original Sin just confirmed it. The amazing Lydia gave us a world of passion and everlasting love. A fabulous love story that was more that I ever imagined. Filled with so many twist and turns that you though you figured out and surprise it went the exactly the other way. Annalise and Adam’s story was dark and had me dropping my jaw. My mind is still processing the rollercoaster ride of Adam and Anna’s story.”
This is an unconventional story of the the immortal life of Adam Hartzler and his need to find his true soul mate. Adam’s family live amongst the Amish community and they are devout in their faith. Annalise Snow is not immortal, and she is used to the conveniences of modern society. Adam must convince her that are meant to be bonded together and that his life depends on it. The attraction is undeniable and the love is felt throughout the book. It is understandable that she is hesitant to completely give up the life she knew. The plot twists completely shocked me and kept me hooked. I loved this book and can’t wait to read more from this family.
Anna is a bit of a hot potato –
seriously that poor girl was constantly being tossed from one reality to the next.
She is your typical college student with big dreams,
burning the candle at both ends to ensure she reaches her goal.
She also might of, kinda, sorta be more stubborn than a mule.
But a girl has to stand her ground!
Yeah I liked her
When Adam feels the call of his mate
– after being outed by a snoopy little slip of a family member –
he sets out to bring her home.
Boy is he in for a wake-up call
Anna has plans and hello you are a creepy stranger –
and there is no internet and this is not a bathroom
… Just NOPE
It was when everything collapsed that I truly became invested in this cast.
The author sets a pretty solid foundation
sometimes just bits of reasoning that still left me with lots of “huh?” questions
But once I was able to see the overall direction she was taking us?
I read the rest in one go
I know who is falling next (yes I am saying that with a touch of sing-song)
I am worried about the ‘rents
Really don’t like Silus I’m seeing darkness in him
Cain, Adam’s twin, holy hotness I can not wait for his story!
Larissa, Cains right and if my guess is correct you are in a checkmate
I have to admit the Amish aspect and their beliefs were a touch hard for me
and possibly weighed a bit on my overall feelings about the story.
Though it totally makes sense as far as immortals blending in with today’s society.
It took me a bit but I’m invested
I see this series being one of my favorites
I’m already curious as to what’s going on
Original Sin is my first Paranormal-Vampire read. Lydia popped my cherry on this genre! I didn’t know what to expect so I went in without any expectations and came out afterward with my mind being a dysfunctional hot mess. My knowledge of vampires is limited, and I was trying to put realism and logic into something that’s supernatural-mythical. I had to discuss this one with my husband and driving him crazy with all my questions about hiding in plain sight and the possibilities of vampires living among us. If an author’s job is to have us think outside the box, create another world within our environment, having us thinking about and discussing their stories then Lydia knocks this one out of the park. Like with so many of her books she puts her heart and soul into her work and it shows.
I absolutely love the Amish twist to this book. This is a fantastic paranormal read with lots of unexpected twists. Can’t wait for the next one in this series!
This was my first read by Lydia, but being a vampire story and seeming quite a different type of tale in the blurb had me hooked and ready to go! Wow, I was not disappointed!! This is a unique and original vampire story…… vivid, dramatic, emotional and full of gut wrenching twists and turns that left you on the edge of your seat.
The Immortals have hidden themselves away for centuries, living as an Amish sect, keeping themselves separated from the rest of humanity, living peacefully. They live to their own set of rules, each having their own set of special abilities and believe that God has a plan for them, and await His call to find their one true mate, this being the only time they dream, receiving flashes of information about their mate. But once this call has been received they have a limited amount of time to act and find them, as their humanity slowly seeps out of them, the blood of their mate being the only thing that can save them.
Adam receives one such call and sets out to find his mate, with the smell of honeysuckle and flashes of street signs to aid him. Annalise is a college student and works in a bar. When he finds her they have an immediate connection, but Adam wants her to love him of her own free will and doesn’t want to force her, but Anna is her own woman used to the modern trappings of the world, so when she wakes up and finds herself amidst an Amish clan she is not best pleased.
Adam has to fight hard to try and gain her trust, which is a mighty battle since he basically has to kidnap her at first. But Anna also sees how women are treated in their sect and doesn’t like it one bit. Being made to dress like them and not swear prove a little too much to handle! Yet all this time Adam is fighting within himself to keep sane and not let the beast out, he refuses to just take Anna and bond with her, even though he has been taught that his is his right, he is willing to die before having to force her.
But all is not quite as it seems, as Anna starts having nightmares, someone else is invading her dreams and its not Adam!
I loved this!!! I was thoroughly hooked on the story line and the push and pull between Anna and Adam, will she or won’t she??? You can’t help but feel for her, it’s not such an easy decision to make!! There are lots of secondary characters in here also, all very interesting and appealing in their own way, I just loved the whole set up really! I can’t wait to see where we go next with this!! Highly recommended reading for any PNR fans.
This book is unlike any vampire novel you will ever read. It has all the makings of a delicious new world that you will not be able to put down! It’s sexy, gut wrenching, and has so much chaos it’s mind blowing! It’s a 5 star read and than some.
Wow I have no words for this very dark and steamy read. This story is a amazing start to this hot steamy story of vampire and darkness. This was on the edge of your seat throughout this story as I wasn’t able to put down. So can wait for the next book. This is the second book I’ve read by this author and looks like I will have to start reading more from author as after reading story I had a book hangover and a funk of not being able to get into other books..
Original sin – where you will never look at the Amish the same again.
From the absolute beginning of this book, I was hooked. It was a unique story about immortals with giving insight into their sects and their way of life. We are introduced to Adam, an immortal who has received a calling to find his mate. Adam conveys heartfelt emotions and deep love for his mate before he even reaches her. Adam is presented as an empathic being and through the author’s words, you can feel all of his feelings that he goes through. He goes out to search for his mate and then the readers are introduced to Annalise. You immediately feel for her as she is struggling to get by and is searching for her own family after failing attempts. Anna is a strong-willed independent woman who will continually get up time and time again. I enjoyed this character putting the puzzle pieces together quickly. Many times in novels you are screaming at the protagonist to get a clue, but in this case, Anna caught on quickly, which helped move the story. The story was well-paced and beautifully constructed. The story also included accurate landmarks and descriptions that it was clear to visualize while reading. As an avid reader, I usually shy away from paranormal/vampire romances, but I now see the appeal I could not put it down once I started it, and that has been a first for me in 2020. The story had so many clues as to what is to come, I can not wait for another from this series. This book gets 5 full stars.
Original Sin is the first book in The Order of Vampires and it is a long book!
I think Original Sin is an Original well not the vampires but I have never read about Vampires being Amish.
This is Adam Hartzler and Annalise Snow’s story.
Adam finds his true mate and it is Annalise. He ends up taking her from her home and she awakens at his home on an Amish farm. If he doesn’t mate with her soon he will die. While Adam is honorable he finds the line is blurring between honorable and HIS need. She has it in her hands to see whether he will live or die.
While on the farm she finds that it is a “Primative twilight zone” This Vampire sect is hidden in the middle of Amish country. And they follow the Amish rules & practices, no modern conveniences. This is a very Patriarchal society.
Adam tries to give her what she needs and to give her choices to the point that he might die if she doesn’t make her mind up soon. She knows that if she chooses to save him she must die and reemerge as a vampire herself. That’s a huge decision to be made.
This book is a great start! (I think original start to a hopefully great series)! 4.5 stars
I love a good vampire novel and Lydia Michaels has killed it with her gripping and seductive spin on vampire lore.
Where to start? Ok….this book left me speechless. I literally could not put it down!! This world that Lydia has created was mesmerizing to say the least. The story didn’t go where I thought it would and it sure didn’t end how I thought it would. Holy crap what a ride! It was so full of emotion…so many wonderful, twisted and gut wrenching emotions….I almost felt sick with fear at what would happen when I would turn the page! Absolutely amazing!!
This is definitely not the typical vampire/paranormal story! It makes you immerse yourself into a world that nothing like you have seen before. Your emotions are all over the place. It’s a story of love, loss, family and sacrifice. I don’t have the words to do this book justice. Definitely worth reading!
Thank you for the privilege of reading this book! Well done
