Pretty typical romance novel. Wasn’t a fan of the very odd twists to the story. It was not a believable story line even for a romance novel. Not a book I would read a second time, which I tend to do.
The good storyline and wonderful characters grabbed my attention from the very beginning and kept me enthralled until the turn of the very last page!
Stronger and more determined than she looks, Jaime Chandler makes an unfortunate discovery, forcing her to take matters into her own hands. This leads her to Cord Austin and his wagon train, where the attraction between them is instant but not acted upon immediately. The plot of this novel is fairly fast-paced, even the descriptions of the day to day activities on the trail. The scenery is also painted with words, bringing to life the sights and sounds on the pages of the book. If Jaime thought the trials on the wagon train were extreme, the discoveries awaiting her in San Francisco are even more so. Fortunately, even though Cord tries to distance himself from her, he cannot forget her nor leave her to her own devices. Despite some violence, the story is generally well written, suspenseful, and romantic and comes to a successful close. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. Good read. Enjoyable read to see the interaction between the two characters and them both struggling with their feelings for each other.
Really enjoyed this book! It had everything – mystery, romance & intrigue.
This author was new to me. I really enjoyed this book and am now reading her other books.
This book gives a great picture of the dangers faced traveling by Conestoga wagon to California. On top of this is a love story with many twists and turns.
I’ve had this book saved on my Kindle for quite a while and I finally got around to reading it. I loved it! The story did not end as I had expected and it was unpredictable at times which made it hard for me to put my Kindle down and quit reading. I finished this book in a little over two days. Excellent read if you are into historical romance stories!
This is an epic style tale that is almost written in three parts. It covers a lot of time & miles. It also covers a lot of ground. It’s a mystery, a battle against nature, social norms & racial inequality, as well as a story of friendship, love, & determination.
Jaime is spunky & tough for a little thing alone in the world. Cord has been hardened by a difficult childhood, but is still basically a fair, kind man. Of course he tries to mask it in a cocky, snarky way. Both are easy to root for throughout the story (although I wanted to bonk some sense into Cord @ times).
I liked the first two parts of story best. It was interesting to read about the choice to go west & the difficult trip across the country. I’ll never complain about a long car trip again.
Just a little pet peeve to mention: I think the heroine on the cover should be blonde, as mentioned in the story.
