An untested young woman must claim her place as the Oracle—and contend with a powerful Djinn—in this novel of the Elder Races. As a second daughter, Grace Andreas never had to worry about the intrigues of the Elder Races. But when her sister, Petra, and her husband are both killed, Grace inherits the Power and responsibilities of the Oracle of Louisville, as well as her sister’s two young … two young children—neither of which she is prepared for.
Yet, she is not alone. Khalil, Demonkind and Djinn Prince of House Marid—driven by his genuine caring for the children—has decided to make himself a part of the household both as their guardian and as an exasperating counterpoint to Grace’s impudence towards the Elder Races.
But when an attempt is made on Grace’s life, she realizes that Khalil is the only one can protect her—and offer her more than any mortal man…

Recommended for those who like the series.
Paranormal romance is one of my absolute favorite genres to read, and Thea Harrison’s Elder Races series is a winner for me. Oracle’s Moon, book #4 in the series, is a particular favorite of mine. The story’s main plot line is the complex relationship between Grace and Khalil- they are front and center, and the secondary plot conflicts only add to the story and don’t detract from the romance arc. I was drawn to Grace’s spunk and her fierce devotion to her niece and nephew, Chloe and Max. Although Grace’s world was turned upside down not long ago, she is managing the overwhelming challenges and responsibilities with unfailing determination and resolve. Grace is a character who I connected with, and respected, immediately. Khalil is the perfect alpha male for a paranormal romance. While he is arrogant and authoritative at times, his protectiveness of the children and his devout sense of justice and duty had my heart melting instantly. More, Khalil is a true fish-out-of-water troupe, and it’s so entertaining to see him navigate common dating practices and courtesies. While this is the 4th book in the series, you can pick up and read this book as a standalone. Thea Harrison does a wonderful job of giving enough backstory on secondary characters so that you don’t feel lost.
Grace is almost my top favorite heroine in the Elder Series World (Pia’s number one). I think it’s the sarcasm and gumption in her character. I appreciate reading about a character who has been handed a bad situation, and instead of breaking down, just pulls up her big girl panties and gets on with what needs to be done. I also feel that as a reader, I probably like Grace so much because she’s a human, and not a were, vampire, fae, or elf….
I also love this book in the series because the hero, Khalil, tackles situations in the series with an alpha attitude mixed with the actions of a man not used to dealing with human logic.
The story also provides some moments with previous characters from the Elder Series World.
Like the real work depiction of raising children under trying circumstances. And also the personalities of the main characters.
I love all of Ms. Harrison’s book. The Elder Races books are so well built it seems like a perfectly plausible alternate history. The characters are wonderful and you get truly invested in them.
Great series. Bet you can’t just read one.
I loved this book! One of my favorites in the series.
I’ll be honest: when I began reading this book, I was tempted to quit right off the bat. It’s the fourth book in the series, so any jargon used flies right over your head if you haven’t read the previous ones.
However, I continued reading and I’m so glad I did. Though they were improbable, the problems in the story were realistic in how they were solved. There was no jump right to the conclusion. Characters had to work togethet to reolve any issues and this often took more than a few pages. The main characters were explored pretty well. I do wish that they’d gone into more detail about the coven-antagonist (not going into it-spoilers!) and into Soren’s character and why he makes the decisions he does, but I do realize that this would result in a lot of long-winded exposition that really wouldn’t serve a purpose. Even without it, the important points came across clearly.
The romance–oh the romance! I am so happy that it wasn’t a book where the characters feel lust at first sight then fall in love. Khalil and Grace HATED each other at first. It wasn’t until they got over their differences and connected later that they became attracted to each other. This kind of slow-building but intense romance is my favorite.
This is the kind of book you stay up until 1 in the morning reading (guilty as charged). I’d recommend this book for a lazy day when you’re feeling like going on an adventure. I read this book the weekend I went back home from school, so it’s a pretty quick read. I’m definitely reading the rest of the series, too.
LOVE this book – I love the Elder Races series, but this is one of my favorites. I love the characters and think they match perfectly. The story is exciting and had me racing through it to get to the end!
