The Oracle series continues to provide thrills and insights into Lara’s life with this second installment. As we learn more about both Lara and Oracle, we can appreciate even more the combination of intensity and vulnerability which make her so real. As the relationship between her an Donovan develops, together they participate in an international investigation to find a kidnapped ambassador and prevent a war. Between black flag operations, shady organizations and stunning new technologies, you’ll never be bored. The story hints at a continuation in a following installment, but the book is absolutely complete on its own.
C Everward is a very clever writer. Not only is the story-line compelling but it is excellently written.
Recommend if you like thrillers with a touch of the future.
I’m glad this novel delved more deeply into the back story about Donovan and Lara. You can really see the progression and growth of the characters with this richer history, and the relationship is strongly built. The details brought the characters more to life for me, and I developed more sympathy for the tragedies that formed their personalities. Fast on the heels of the first story, this one picks up with a mysterious plane disappearance and reappearance, throwing our heroine back into the fray. While it is set slightly in the future, it doesn’t have the flavor of over-the-top futuristic scifi, but a slightly higher tech level to our modern society.
I was eagerly awaiting the publication of this book and I was not disappointed. You learn more about Donavan and Lara’s pasts and how Oracle came about, which is good. Like its predecessor, this book is set slightly in the future, a future that is different in such subtle ways it makes it intriguing rather than overwhelming.
I don’t usually get emotional while reading, but this one had me crying on the train on the way to work. It was most embarrassing. You get so caught up in books by this author that you almost feel like you are living them along with the characters.
Another thing I love about this book is the way the character’s personalities develop rather than change. At times the interaction between Donavan and Lara becomes almost a sub-plot, without which the book is very very good, but including it makes it great.
I have a few open spots on my top ten authors list (mainly due to death unfortunately) and this author has definitely filled one of the vacancies.
Good storyline, great characters and well written. What more could you ask for?
With the plane carrying Ambassador Sendor down and the ambassador, the only one to prevent the war between Srpska and Bosnia is gone missing, both Donovan and the Oracle have to do their best to locate the bad guys, find out if the ambassador is living and stop the war that is about to erupt. Meanwhile, the burdens of the past still haunt Lara and challenges mount in a budding relationship, will the two learn to trust and love one another? The author does a beautiful job in describing political conspiracies, the international threat to the alliance, the ethnical clashes that resonate too well with the recent realities. It is a must read to thriller and action lovers. It felt like a futuristic episode from 24. A great follow up from the first book in the series. Loved it.
I received this book through Booksprout for an honest review.
Since I read the 1st book in the series, I couldn’t wait to long to read the second. This story begins with the ambassador, who has been working to bring two countries to a peace agreement, has his plane taken over and him being abducted. As a result of this action, the two countries that he was working with are given information by the Russians that have them ready to start a war. The Internationals and the U.S. discovered that the plane that carried the ambassador was taken over by a new technology that overrode the efforts of the pilots. Donovan was to start the an investigation of an individual that was involved with the U.S. portion of the development of the technology that took the plane.
Donovan’s investigation brought him once again into contact with the individual known as “Oracle”. Oracle was involved in trying to locate the ambassador and work to stop the outbreak of war between the two countries which would lead to making the area unstable and permit Russia to take control. Oracle, as only it was able, began the search for the ambassador and also searched for the group behind his disappearance. Donovan was also brought into looking for information as well.
To discover who was responsible for the ambassador’s abduction, what leads Donovan followed to be able to close his investigation and what steps Oracle needed to do to accomplish locating the ambassador, then you must read this book. The ending will surprise you.
