She’s used to bringing death. Now she has to learn to live. Nyx was created to be the perfect killer. A cyborg assassin with violence encoded in her DNA. After years of tests, torments, and trials designed to push her to her breaking point, she’s survived by focusing on one thing – revenge. He broke the law to find her… and that was the easy part. Eric made a promise, and he intends to keep it. … part.
Eric made a promise, and he intends to keep it. But freeing Nyx was supposed to bring him closure, not introduce him to the woman of his dreams. She’s beautiful, damaged, dangerous, and he’ll do whatever it takes to protect her from any threat, including herself.
Now she’s free, Nyx isn’t looking for a safe, comfortable life, not even if it comes with a man as sweet and sexy as Eric. She wants to make her captors pay for what they did to her…even if it costs her everything, including her chance at love…

The power of three
This book is everything you would hope for in a SciFi book. The author kept the story moving with the action and danger, she intrigued our emotions when she added the element of camaraderie and friendship, and made sure we were suitably twitter pated with the many displays of devotion and love between the couples. I love that this lost soul finds her space in the universe, it might have taken a lot of work and missteps to get there, but these two were meant to find their HEA. I couldn’t put the book down once I started and I am already longing to read the next book in the series. I can’t wait to see what comes of the lure the author threw us at the end.
I love this exciting sci-fi world…
Cyber-jockey Eric “Magi” Erben showcases his talents in this action packed thriller. Nova Force is still hunting the elusive “Grey Men”, our overarching baddies, but Magi’s promise to rescue a friends sister may give them a much needed leg up. Maybe. I was immediately taken with Eric and Nyx as they and the crew jumped off of the pages and into my heart. The witty repartee and sweet sexy romance adds just the right amount of angst to the fast paced fun read.
This book is part of a series. It can be read as a very good standalone, but the story will be richer if read in order. This is the first book in the series that I have read. I’ve already purchased the others.
The character building was great. I felt like I truly knew the couple by the end. Erik is a bad boy, sort of. He has a moral code that He will not compromise.
Nyx is a badass. She’s a should be victim that will not allow herself to break, even after years of torture.
Nova Force was created to stop the corporations from oppressing the people. The problem is, Nova Force is honorable and plays by the rules.
How do you stop power hungry tyrants without getting your hands dirty? You don’t.
I received an ARC copy of this book for review.
What a great story!
I’m always assured of an exciting story when it involves Nova Force and the Drift. I must say, Nyx must be one of the most strong-minded individuals ever. She survives extraordinary treatment, never free, yet undefeated by the evil done to her. What Dr. Absalom does is not only unconscionable, it’s illegal.
Eric and the Nova Force team are a force to be reckoned with. Eric may not follow protocol (it may get him in BIG trouble), but he achieves his goal in record time. I love this story, and the romance that develops between Eric and Nyx. Nothing comes easy for them; there are too many forces against them. Definitely a must read.
And the bad boy goes down! Magi aka Nova Force investigator Eric Erben is an ex-con working of his debt as a member of the Nova Force. He sees his fellow shipmates finding love and thinks that his chance was an assassin and is now dead but it turns out she was just an Echo of the real thing. When he meets Nyx he is gobsmacked. Nyx is the spitting image of the one that got away and twice as deadly. His heart is doomed. Now they have to fight for their freedom and their future but love will find a way.
I love this series and really enjoyed watching Magi fall. I devoured this from the gorgeous cover to the very last page. This story will make you smile.
I was granted this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Susan Hayes always does an outstanding job of engaging her readers, and this addition to the Nova Force series is no exception. Well written, action-packed, and filled with a wannabe romance, this story pushes all the right buttons. As a reader I couldn’t help but feel Nyx’s anguish, and Eric’s determination.
Nyx, our main heroine, is a cyborg who has never been freed. Eric, our hero, is a newer member of Nova Force who promised Echo, from The Drift series, that he’d locate and rescue Nyx, no matter what it took to do it.
Not truly knowing whom she can trust Nyx is doing her best to bring down Dr. Absalom, the man responsible for her, and her clones, torment and torture. Eric wants to aid her endeavors, but there are spies amongst them. While Eric struggles to “do right” by both Nova Force, and Nyx, he’s torn between loyalties. Will he be able to help Nyx, or will his efforts cost him, and Nova Force, too much?
Someone is gunning for Nyx, and everyone associated with Nova Force is caught in the cross-hairs. The truth needs to discovered, and the spies dealt with. Can Nyx depend upon Eric and Nova Force? Read this and find out! Along the way, get reacquainted with the members of Nova Force.
Book series:
#1 Operation Phoenix
#2 Operation Cobalt
#3 Operation Fury
Susan Hayes’ Nova Force characters are wonderful. They are all different, and wonderfully real, even if there are cybernetics involved. The books have everything you want in a sci-fi romance. Lots of action, adventure, suspense and in the end, the main characters find their happy ending.
Even though this is book 3 in the series, you can easily read it first without confusion. If you like brave soldiers fighting faceless evil with the help of ordinary people put in extra-ordinary circumstances, then you will love these books. The fact that the action takes place on other worlds is a bonus.
This is the third book in the Nova Force series. The team is still as entertaining to read as books 1&2 with great characters and a strong storyline.
Oh the playboy has met his match! This is book 3 in the Nova Force series and it really should be read in order. Why? Because things happen in the first two books that bleed over into book 3. Oh, you will still follow if you haven’t but it is so much more enjoyable if you have. Nyx is the perfect killer, Eric likes and attracts dangerous women. Put these two together and you have an insane and lethal duo. Drawn together from the beginning Nyx and Eric have a passionate relationship, full of heat and determination. They both want to bring down those who held her captive and are responsible for so many deaths but what will it cost them.
I was hooked! This was one of those books that I stayed up way past my bedtime reading because I just did not want to put it down. And when I did… geeze I could not get my mind on task because I was stuck in The Drift.
Operation Fury is all action from the opening with Nyx to the end. Nyx is fabulously strong and independent, yet slightly vulnerable at the same time. She is a fierce war machine. Eric along with his Nova Force team were more of a strong family. They were quick to protect each other. They easily accepted Nyx. The action of the story was intriguing and detailed. It contained great military structure and command while still taking us on a futuristic ride in space with cyborgs, high tech and the bad guys. Love it! I wasn’t bored for one moment reading it and definitely recommend getting this book. This is part of a series, however, I didn’t feel that I needed to have read the first books to enjoy this story.
