What if finding the future you want means embracing the past?
The Palmer brothers are the most eligible bachelors in the small mountain town of Kings Grove. But Miranda George only has eyes for one of them—Chance. And he won’t even look her way unless it’s because she just spilled something on him.
And his brother Sam? He’s the one person in town she wishes would just disappear. After being in … person in town she wishes would just disappear. After being in school together their whole lives, he knows everything about her. Including the one thing she’s never told anyone else.
Sam is intimately familiar with every adorably clutzy move Miranda’s ever made, and he can never seem say what he really means when she’s around.
When a backcountry wildfire threatens everything and everyone they both love, will Miranda and Sam be able to look beyond their complicated past and see a future that might bring them together?
This smart, funny enemies-to-lovers, small-town romance is the second book in Delancey Stewart’s Kings Grove Series.

Just finished it & loved it! The 2nd book in the Kings Grove series did not disappoint. We get to find out more about Miranda and the Palmer brothers – Chance, the one she pined after for years and Sam, the one that knew she was the one all along. A fire in Kings Grove keeps things exciting and the slow smolder that finally ignites between Miranda & Sam will leave you with a happy heart! Looking forward to Love Redefined this summer!
I enjoyed this sweet, funny, but at times suspenseful story. The second book of the Kings Grove series focuses on Miranda and Sam – friends since childhood, Sam has been there for some of the most embarrassing moments of Miranda’s life (she’s got a clumsy streak so she is prone to embarrassing moments!), but that doesn’t stop him from wanting to be with her. Unfortunately she only has eyes for his older brother. The story is told from both the perspective of Miranda and Sam -I loved having the perspective of both characters – what he was really feeling versus her interpretations of his comments. I received an ARC from the author via BookFunnel.
Miranda has had a crush on Chance for years, but he’s never returned her feelings. His brother Sam makes her feel even more like a clumsy idiot with his teasing. Sam’s like the the boy pulling a girl’s hair not wanting to admit that he has a crush on Miranda. Maddie from previous book in this series convinces Miranda to dress nicer and get a job as an admin in their construction office to get closer to Chance. Only she also gets closer to Sam and starts to wonder which brother her heart really belongs to. Chance came off as shallow in this book and Sam was as much a stumbler as Miranda at times except with his words. The wild fires were scary and I don’t how I would react in a situation like that. The story alternates between Miranda and Sam’s point of view with plenty of humor and drama.
I read the 3rd book in this series first, so it was wonderful to read about Sam and Miranda’s story. And what a wonderful story it was. Laughing, some worrying, some more laughing, some sweetness. I’m going to be honest though, I think the epilogue was my favorite.
~ I was given this book and made no commitments to leave my opinions, favorable or otherwise~
Open Your Eyes is the second book in the Kings Grove series written by Delancey Stewart. It can be read as a stand-alone story but you might get a better understanding of the community and secondary characters if you read the books in order.
Open Your Eyes is a friend-enemy/childhood to adult/ almost second chance type of romance. The characters are realistic, relatable as well as intriguing. Their interactions keep the story entertaining. The storyline is fun, witty, and has a variety of challenges and twists to keep the reader’s attention.
I loved how Delancey created this literary world and brought these characters to life. I am already looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
Five out of five stars .
This book series is one that I will recommend.
Miranda is a clumsy small town girl with a crush on one of the Palmer brothers – while the other harbors a crush from childhood. This story follows Sam (the brother with the crush) while he tries to help Miranda catch his brother’s eye. But while spending more time with Sam, Miranda realizes that maybe she’s been looking at the wrong brother!
This is a great second book in the King’s Grove series that brings you right back to the middle of this hidden small town! Definitely worth the read!!
This is a very enjoyable and entertaining book. A charming read that is a mashup of an enemies to lovers romance/childhood sweethearts story. On one side we have Miranda. She has been in love with Chance for years and on the other hand we have Sam, Chance’s brother. He has been in love with Miranda since the were in the same class at school. To complicate things further Miranda’s a klutz and has suffered endless embarrassments that Sam has been witness to and whenever Sam’s around Miranda his feelings cause him to loose control of his mouth and he says something that hurts her by being sarcastic, insulting and/or just plain annoying. When their world, the people they care about and their lives are put at risk can they finally move beyond the past and open their eyes and hearts to the promise of love that awaits them? Grab a copy to find out. I’m posting a honest, voluntary review after reading a copy of this book.
Being clueless and blind to the obvious adoration from the handsome guy is one thing, but being hopelessly in love with his brother brings a whole new level of sadness into this story.
When you stand too close or side by side you don’t always get the chance to view your friend the right way. When you grow up together you will have trouble getting a new opinion of someone. Sometimes you don’t see changes or even consider them as grownups. And considering them as a possible partner is out of the question.
I’m feeling a real connection to this clueless, clutzy girl. She doesn’t seem to see what’s right in front of her and wants the moon instead. It’s taking a pending disaster to shake her out of her dream world and face the wonderful life she has waiting for her.
I love the way this author is able to create characters so whole, unique and true. It feels real and the small mountain community has come to life on the pages. I’m ready to make a commitment to this village.
Open Your Eyes is an interconnected stand alone book in the Kings Grove series. You don’t HAVE to read When We Let Go First, but it sure is fun to visit the characters we’ve already met. AND there were a few scenes to give some background on Miranda.
I wasn’t sure what to expect going into this book – Miranda is just finishing college. But it’s almost a second chance romance, which I love, because she and Sam have so much history.
As usual for Delancey Stewart, these characters are all well-developed, and make me want to befriend them and live in their small town. Miranda is awkward and nervous and so relatable. Sam cracked me up. Somehow, instead of becoming a bumbling oaf, he becomes a jerk when he’s nervous. But a few chapters in, you realize how sweet he is on the inside, behind that strange nervous reaction. I also enjoyed watching Chase’s character develop throughout the story. I hope his book is next!!
This little town of Kings Grove. I want to visit (and I hear there’s something like it in real life, so maybe I will someday). I can envision the diner and the trees, the cabins, all the places they describe so well.
In addition to the love story, there’s an external conflict – a fire threatens the town. Wondering what will happen next kept me turning the pages! From about 60% in, there was NO stopping. I had to know what was going to happen next. From 79% through the end of the book, I had that happy, feel-good, relieved feeling that had me smiling and tearing up and wanting to pump my fist in the air all at the same time!
I can’t recommend this book highly enough. That ending is something I’ll read over and over when I need a pick-me-up. I can’t WAIT for the next book to go back to Kings Grove!!!
‘There was no part of me that understood how any man could look at Miranda George and not fall head over heels in love.’ – thought Sam Palmer. The Palmer brother Miranda was NOT in love with! Sam has crushed on Miranda since they were kids. They have a long way to go get her to believe that.
Miranda George thought she was head over heals for Chance Palmer. The Palmer brother who was polite but barely looked her way. Of course, she wished Sam wouldn’t speak or look at her at all! She has always felt that Sam was either making fun of her or set out to make her miserable.
When Miranda gets a job at Palmer Construction, she begins to see the brothers for who they really are. Not all bad, and not all good.
A wildfire threatens their community. That’s when Miranda realizes that she may have been wrong all along.
I love the telling of the story in this second installment of Kings Grove. You get to see there is more to Miranda than you may have originally thought.
Another 5 star rating for Delancey Stewart. I love how each book in this series focuses on a different person in the small town of Kings Grove. Miranda’s story is great, and I can’t wait to read the next book!
