This story stayed with me. I like Linda Howard’s tricky characters, they pull you in
This turned our way better than it started. I was close to giving up on this book because it just seemed to focus on so much detail in the beginning that I had a hard time being interested. I’m a reader that prefers a book to grab you form the start, but I also know that I could miss out on some really great books if I don’t keep reading. I admit to skimming in the beginning but it was worth it to keep reading. Once the interaction with the the main couple started, it finally started to keep my attention and by the end of the book, I really enjoyed it.
I loved this book. I read it in 2002 and again in 2004. I bought the book in 2012. It is one of my favorites. Daisy is so sweet and innocent. She is a librarian who still lives with her mother and aunt. She decides that she needs to make some changes in her life so she can find a man. Unfortunately, she sees something she shouldn’t and attracts the attention of a killer.
If I could give it 4.5stars, I would. I loved the chemistry between the Daisy and Jack, it was hilarious. I read this book in a few hours but since I had started it in the evening, I had to read it in the other room because hubby said my laughs were keeping him awake. The only reason I didn’t rate it a five was because of the ending. It was weird and pointless. JMHO I like this author’s writing style and would definitely read more of her stuff.
I love books where the librarian gets the hunk.
It gets you in the feels!
Loved this book!
Southern small-town good girl and librarian, Daisy Minor, wakes up depressed on her 34th birthday. She’s boring, her life is boring, and her biological clock is ticking away, with no prospects in sight. Being a smart woman, she decides a make-over is called for, both in appearance and actions, and she makes it happen. Then she heads out to the limited nightclub scene to dance the night away – and start her search for a husband.
Chief of Police Jack Russo, recently relocated from SWAT duty in both Chicago and New York, finds the librarian’s honest naivety refreshing. Miss Daisy’s easy to tease, fun to bait, and he enjoys taking full advantage. But danger is afoot. The charming little town is hiding sinister secrets. When Daisy attracts the attention of the wrong people, Jack has his hands full keeping her safe.
I love Daisy and Jack; they made me LOL sometimes. Both the comforts and irritations of small-town life worked perfectly for me, since I grew up in a town much like Hillsboro. I’ve been on a Linda Howard kick lately. I really enjoy her quirky and sexy characters and her dangerous situations. Always lots of action and lots of chemistry. If you haven’t yet read this older Howard offering, I highly recommend it.
Suspenseful and spicy read! Linda Howard is a master at writing suspenseful romance stories, that grab readers attention and hold on tight!! Highly recommend her books, you will not be disappointed!
