Uhmm.. What did I just read? Natalie Bennett never fails to write these deliciously dark reads that suck you in from page one and then leave you with more questions than answers and one massive book hangover. Seriously, EVERYTIME! Alaric & Catalina and the tangled web that is this/their story.. Well you’ll just have to read it to find out why I’m at a loss for words. SO GOOD!
Utterly Intense and Thrilling!
WTF did I just read! This story is all kinds of dark and twisted with a whole lot of insanity thrown in. The story is intense and gripping but will leave you with a whole lot of unanswered questions in the end.
Catalina is all kinds of messed up and Alaric has the right kind of sick remedy to help her become whatever it is he wants her to be. Alaric is playing some kind of sick, twisted and utterly depraved game but we won’t find out what it is until the next book. Something sinister and twisted is going on. What an absolutely intense and thrilling rollercoaster ride!
I can’t wait to read the next one!
This is TOTALLY INSANE! I don’t know what’s really happened and not. Please give me the next book!
So yeh this one was good and I’m going to keep it, vague folks.
This is typical Natalie style in such it’s twisted and brutal and all sorts of unapologetic insanity and got to say enjoyed this one a lot and I am really looking forward to the next part in this series.
I think this is a duet and this is the first book, it’s not massively long taking me a couple of hours to read.
This gripped me almost instantly and I adored the whole mysterious vibe this gave of.
The story stripped back is Catalina’s sister Meg has died and her new charismatic brother in law Alaric Schuyler who she has never met has invited her down to go through her sister’s belongings.
Throw in hidden agendas a lack of conscience and a big dose of insanity and what we have here from this authors twisted imagination is Opaque Melodies.
I still am not quite sure what the hell is going on here but frankly, that just made this all the more intriguing and also kept me turning the pages.
This one gets a thumbs up from me.
I voluntary reviewed a copy of Opaque Melodies (Coveting Delirium #1).

This was a crazy mess right from the beginning all the way to the maddening end. Brilliant madness! No one writes enthralling characters like this author does. Catalina as the woman with a crazy brain and a draw to the madness that is her widowed brother-in-law. Alaric, the beautiful beast. What kind of crazy is he? And what’s up with that clinic? Everyone’s a mess in this book. The parents are up to no good with Catalina in shambles. The beginning of the story seemed a little disjointed for me and I didn’t get the instant connection between Catalina and Alaric. Okay…he is too handsome with a dominant darkness but still…run girl run. Sure, Catalina has a long-term medical condition that was obscure and unexplained but what’s Alaric’s reason. Just pure insanity? This left a lot of questions for the next book and I can’t wait to find out who’s coming to dinner. Will Catalina’s father make an appearance? I adore this author’s writing and the madness she presents for our consumption and delight. I guess I’m a little insane too ;). Thrilling storyline with a sexy beast and a romance in the making with an unlikely heroine. Bring on the madness! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC.
Heavens to Betsy! This dark, psychological romance needs a call to the heavens to light the words on the page! Ms. Bennett has created characters with flaws, twists, darkness. Alaric was a character you love, and “hate” (maybe!). This novella kept me turning each page to continue reading those dark words. I will be waiting with baited breath for the finale!
I received an advanced reader copy, and this is my honest and voluntary review.
Once I started this book I could not put it down. Especially when Catalina and Alaric met for the first time, as a reader I could feel the secrets he has hidden. I needed to know more, and holy do I have a feeling there will be so much more to learn about these two. And more importantly Alaric’s family.
This was everything I needed. I swear when I first heard about this book I know I needed it. I had a book funk over this book and it wasnt even released yet nor did I read it but man did i built it up in my mind and it did not let me down. And now i need book two. Because god forbid Natalie’s writing is an addiction. Her words are my drug. My own personal heroin you would say. Once you read a book by Natalie Bennett and you have a taste of her words you’ll be as addicted as I am.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author to review for Stephanie’s Book Reports.
Alaric Schuyler. Enigmatic, cocky, and my new brother in law. He had cerulean blue eyes and a smile so beautifully devious it could entice the devil to do his bidding. We were never supposed to happen. One night changed everything, tying him and me together in a sordid twist of fate, trapping me in his dark, chaotic world. The lucid dreams and sick fantasies followed. He became the star of my nightmares, always lurking in the shadows, awakening dormant demons one esoteric melody at a time. I became his muse, a part of everything he did. He would be the death of me. And in the end, I wanted nothing more.
This is the story of Catalina who might be just a little bit mental in her own right. This causes her to have one best friend. When her sister Meg, that she doesn’t really know died she gets a call from the brother in law she never met to come and go though her things. Enter Alaric, her brother in law who is so handsome and rich and also able to put on a face that lets the world know that he is going to have everything he wants and he wants Catalina. I will stop there and tell you that this book is dark and crazy and so so good. I loved every single second of it and can not wait to get my hands on the second book to find out what happens.
This is the 1st in a new series from this gifted author, and what a dark and twisted tale this is! When Catalina received a call from Alaric, her brother-in-law that she never new she had, fate changes her life from there on, with what is reality and what is not. This is an awesome story which is dark, intense, thrilling, violent, twists, secrets and suspense, which all had me totally intrigued and hooked throughout this addictive page turner. Roll on #2!! I recommend for all readers who enjoy a phycological suspense storyline.
Oh my goodness! That was such an enticing and captivating story! I was desperately trying to figure out what was going on between Catalina and Alaric. But this story blindsided me with its unbelievable and bizarre storyline.
Beware, this story messes with your head and leaves you with so many questions.
“Beautiful, yet sinister. Like the man who asked me to play it. Tragic, like the woman I pretended I wasn’t.”
This cast – This family – * sigh*. I know. I know.
Just something about the freedom in their unencumbered quest to appease their demons.
How they transpose that small touch of insanity into art.
This might be my favorite episode of the series to date.
I think you can read this as a standalone.
Alaric is charisma and danger wrapped up in the most tempting of packages
Right from the moment the door opened I knew our Cat was in over her head.
The way he played Catalina…
Even I was a bit in awe at his deviously clever tactics to twist her mind and trigger her darkness
Cat is so much stronger than she believes. She knows her darkness hides evil needs but as much as she fears it she also craves what it desires. She has always been made to feel less – less important – less of a sister, a daughter – just less.
Until him. The man who was enamored with her sister.
Except it seems as though enamored he was not.
Curious is our little Cat.
Curious killed the Cat.
I don’t want to wait to see how the pieces fall into place but this does end on a cliffy and is a two-part story so guess I will just sit here in the corner with the lights on and wait…
PLEASE PLEASE heed the warnings!!
Pass this one up if you do not like cliffhangers, or if serial killers who enjoy their work bothers you. If you don’t like graphic situations or manipulation or rivers of crimson.
It is your choice to enter so make sure it is the right choice for you.
I loved the twisted scenes and the psycho illusions in this book. I kind of wish it had all been one larger novel instead of two small books as it ends on a cliffhanger, but you won’t be disappointed if you like deranged characters like I do! I can’t wait for book two! Great job Natalie!
This book was good and definitely a page turner for me. You know something isn’t quite right and you have to keep reading to try to understand what’s really going on. Alaric has finally found a woman whose crazy calls to his crazy and intends on keeping her. Cat has no idea if what’s happening to her is real or her mind is playing tricks on her. I definitely can’t wait to read the next book!
Opaque Melodies by Natalie Bennet tells the story of Catalina. She is a mentally disturbed woman with an overbearing mother. An illegitimate child who has never known her father’s love now finds herself forced into going to California to go through her deceased half sister’s possessions. Her brother in law aka Alaric who she discovers is not an old rich guy but a greek god with blue eyes and is extremely wealthy insist she come. Upon arrival she believes something isn’t quite right with the brother in law. He doesn’t seem to be upset over his dead wife and he appears to be throwing off sexual vibes which Catalina is already feeling herself for him. However by the time she figures out she should leave, she in way over her head and it is to late. Catalina has fallen down the rabbit hole and isn’t quite sure what is real and what isn’t. In true Natalie Bennett form I was taken to the land of sick, extremely dark and extremely twisted. The sex is too with a taste of brutal. Loved it. I always question my sanity after reading her stories. I can’t get enough of it. I get so drawn into the story I am salivating for the next book. So much going on I don’t know what is real. What is in her mind or what Alaric is trying to make her believe. Brilliant!!! 5 stars for me.
I have been looking forward to this story for the past year, and it was everything I was hoping it would be and so much more!!! I freaking loved Alaric and Catalina together, and I can’t wait until book 2 to see how he continues to bring out her twisted demons to play. I really enjoyed the build up of their relationship and I didn’t want the story to end. I officially have a book hangover now and I want more of Alaric’s twistedness.
3.5/5 Rating
Hmm…I love reading stories by this author. I love getting a new dark couple but this just seems the same as before. Maybe I’m wrong but I feel like I read this before. The heroine, Catalina, seems to be unstable just as much or more than the hero/ant-ihero, Alaric. I’m hoping for more twist turns in the second book, Melodic Madness. I hope Catalina starts to question what is being done to her.
Damn what a ride it was well worth the wait for this book. This book was was mind-boggling and intense and I loved it. I have so many questions I need answer for!!Alaric and Catalina had so much chemistry together. The next book cant come quick enough I’m going to go crazy waiting for it!! Natalie Bennett like how do even come up with this stuff u blow mind away everytime!!! As always with Natalie’s books this is a 5 read for me.
Catalina thinks she’s mental and in the normal world she is.
Alaric knows he’s twisted and he doesn’t want to be anything other than what he is.
Catalina lives in her own world, anti social and she likes it that way. One friend, one pet and one parent she speaks to, though she’d at times rather not have to bother with her overbearing mother at all.
Alaric is rich, able to put on a face to socialize with the world and get what he wants and what he wants right now is Catalina.
Reading this book you can tell there’s secrets in Cats past. Twists related to her parents and her own mind and twisted thoughts.
She does have a half sister from her fathers side who she wasn’t very close to at all. He father was a deadbeat to Cat while completely invested in her sisters life
Alaric and Cat aren’t supposed to be together seeing as he’s her brother in law but his crazy calls to hers.
Nothing is simple and its never exactly what it seems.
Opaque Melodies is book one in the duet. I really liked it. It was dark and a little twisted. I loved Alaric and Catalina. I have so many questions!! Need to read book two soon!
