I made my name winning cases. Carter Sloane is known for being sharp, astute, and never taking no for an answer. At home, though, I’m fumbling my way through raising my two nieces and saying yes to far too many bowls of ice cream. If only I wasn’t so distracted by the woman across from my new office.Running a booming fragrance business gives Valentina Connor a great excuse to avoid dating. But I … avoid dating. But I see right through her. I’m not going to be another bad decision.
I can’t believe how easily Val slips into our lives, doting on my nieces and making me fall for her.
I’d move mountains to make her happy, but with Val’s career soaring, how can I ask her to commit to the chaos of my life?

Very steamy. Great characters. Love the relationship as it grew between them. Sweet ending. Love how the conflict wasn’t conflict, just a misunderstanding. And then was cleared up so maturely.
4.5 Stars ~ This book is just a warm, gooey, bit of yumminess! It’s one of those books that you’ll want to curl up with when you’re looking for something light, fun, and a bit spicy. There’s no high drama going on. The characters are mature adults with their lives put together. He’s a lawyer, and she owns her own very successful business.
They’ve each gone through rough patches in the past, but that’s behind them. Or as much as it can be. You never get over losses, they just become easier to manage. Considering what they’ve each been through, they’re thriving.
Carter & Val hit it off immediately. But, their encounters are short, so you get a bit of a slow build up. When they do start to come together more often, it’s funny, and it’s HOT! And I mean HOT! You can expect lots of the bedroom stuff in this book, but the plot isn’t driven by that. I appreciated that it wasn’t what brings them together or holds them together. It’s a natural progression.
So, I recommend this one for all you romance readers out there looking for something light and fun! It’s the perfect book for those of you coming off one of those reads that just rip you to shreds. You know what I’m talking about! Sometimes you just need something warm!!
I have listened to every book in the series and I adore the family. They are so fun and sweet and supportive of each other. Then there’s the couple; this is Val’s story and she meets Carter, a lawyer whose office was next to his. As with all the other books in the series, this is a low angst, so sweet romance. In this case, Carter has 2 nieces he is taking care of and they are adorable too. Overall, the strong family and the sweet romance really made this another fun installment in this series.
I listened to the audiobook. What to say about Sebastian York and Andi Arndt. They are flawless as always, with great control of their voices to play multiple characters. I really enjoyed the narration.
Val Finally Gets Her Much-Deserved Turn At Love
Valentina Connor, thirty-six and the owner of a perfume and cosmetic company, has always put her siblings needs first. She and her twin brother, Landon, left Harvard and their scholarships behind when their parents died in an accident. They returned to L.A. to raise their four younger siblings, but while Landon went on to marry, move away, and become a widower before finding love a second time, Val has never stepped back from being mother hen. Although she has dated plenty and even had a few relationships, nothing ever took. Val always found herself more invested than the guy, and the pattern was getting old.
Thirty-five year old Carter Sloan, a successful lawyer with his own law firm, has been raising his two nieces since their parents died five years earlier. After a few failed relationships ended because the woman had difficulty dealing with him being his nieces’ guardian, he gave up trying.
When Val and Carter meet while in line at the coffee shop, sparks fly. They end up sitting together not only for breakfast, but also for lunch that same day. Val is cautious, however. She has learned her lesson for getting too involved with a man, so she wants to keep things fun, but Carter’s persistence eventually pays off.
Val faces a lawsuit from a competitor, putting a damper on things for a while, and Carter is hesitant about getting Val involved with his nieces and scaring her off. They must work through their issues, but they do eventually earn their HEA.
This is the fourth book in the Connor series, and it is wonderful to see Val finally help get her HEA. After so much personal sacrifice, it is easy to get behind Val’s cause.
These characters feel real and are easy to connect with. The nieces in this story, Peyton and April, are easy to like. Carter’s custody of them has similarities to the situation Val found herself in after her parents died. This shared experience seems to bring them closer.
Val and Carter share excellent chemistry. The book is sweet and spicy, like the other Connor books. It is nice to see how mature Val and Carter both are, and how they both sacrifice willingly for others. Consequently, they have very little to work out, other than some lingering insecurity. Pressures from work are a problem, but they don’t present problem to their relationship. The story is refreshingly real.
Great book
Another
Great Story from Layla. Another Conner sibling finds love. It’s great. Val meets Carter because of their realtor. But they hit it off. He’s a single uncle raising his nieces but something just clicks between them
Carter Sloane is sharp, astute, and never takes no for an answer. At home, though, he is fumbling his way through raising two nieces and saying yes to far too many bowls of ice cream. He finds Valentina Connor distracting. Her booming fragrance business is across from his office. She uses her business as an excuse to avoid dating. She easily slips into Carter’s life, doting on his nieces and making him fall for her. With her career soaring, Carter does not know how he can ask her to commit to the chaos of his life. – Carter are both smart, loving, and loyal. Valentina’s experience with her siblings helps Carter with his nieces. I enjoyed all the characters, and this is an interesting story. I liked the positivity from start to finish.
This series is a must read
This was an OK book, but it won’t be one that I’ll ever re-read,
This is the first book I’ve read by this author, but it won’t be the last. I really enjoyed the easy reading, the connor family values, and the story in general. I’ll definitely need to read the other books in the series. If you like a sweet contemporary romance then this is exactly right for you.
Enjoyable storyline and the characters are well developed. A little more sex than I felt necessary for the story.
Carter and Val
This was a fine read but I needed more plot. Val and Carter have wonderful, supportive families but I wanted more excitement.
Much too steamy. Good story, but sex just too much.
Val is a mazing, and the members of her family are supportive and wonderful each in his/her own right. Carter is funny and his wooing of Val makes you envious.
Enjoyed the story. Will read more by this author.
A bit predictable.
Loved these characters!
A cute story line; two busy executives trying to get together. Unfortunately it was lust at first sight and there was more sex graphic sex than plot. I don’t believe adults actually speak to each other as Carter and Val did. I won’t be reading any more of the series.
It is very predictable. The author spends more time on sex scenes than character development. It is part of a series but can be read alone. If you like books with sex scenes, you might enjoy this book.
A lovely love story.
