Lake Jones is a cover girl for cutting-edge prosthetic legs, a binge-watcher of Netflix, known to spy on her neighbor through her door’s peephole, and fond of laser games with her hairless cat. She’s also a bit sexually-frustrated.
Until …
God bestows a breath of mercy upon her in the form of Minnesota’s NFL starting quarterback. But this gift is no stranger. Lake met Cage Monaghan three … Monaghan three years earlier.
It was one day.
One moment.
One kiss that resurrected her dreams of finding love.
His dimpled smile distracts from his imperfections, which include: a love for country music, fishing, and a feline-hating girlfriend.
When life finally gives them their chance, it’s a humorous and heart-wrenching journey to find their place in the world.
“We would be Cage and Lake. We would be unpredictable. We would be reckless. We would give normality the middle finger.”
***This book is a standalone. However, it is HIGHLY recommended that any readers who have not, but may consider, reading the Jack & Jill Series, do so before reading this book. It contains spoilers to Jack & Jill.

ONE of the best books I’ve read this year. Jewel does not disappoint as usual. Love her characters and storytelling. I just sit back and let her stories take me on these awesome adventures. This one really pulls at the heart strings. Throw together a hunk of a football player and friend’s meddling neighbor, who just happens to be a gorgeous amputee, that takes on the world, and BAM! Let the story-line begin. Love the snarky banter and there are so many characters that I can see having their own books. I love sports romance and this book gives you it all. My favorite line from this book is: “I’m your new book. I’m your endless possibilities,” I whispered with the last bit of breath I had left after the realization knocked it from my chest, leaving my heart swelling with so much love.

Reading One by Jewel E Ann throws me right back into the Jack and Jill series and makes me want to do a re-read of that series..OMG this series could go on and on and I would one click each and every one of them!!
I think I figured it out that since the beginning of this year ONE is my 9th book I have read of Jewel E Ann….and I am in book heaven every time I get lost in her words!!
Thank you for writing girlie!!!
A Six Stars box created especially for Jewel !
Each and every book that I’ve picked up from this author has been a sparkling Gem of a story. They are all exceptionally well written and immensely engaging. Whenever I find space between ARCs, I tend to pick one of her books. And then I kick myself, which rock was I buried under, where i missed all her books as they released !!
No worries, now I’m on top of jewel…..her books I mean. I won’t miss even the scraps of papers of she writes tiny notes on! You shouldn’t either!!
This particular story is heartwarming and heart wrenching at the same time. The girl -Lake is an amputee. An unfortunate car accident left her minus a leg and a boyfriend *And I’m crying*
Ben died and I lived.
She has a typical survivor’s guilt plaguing her. Brave and tenacious, she has, and continues to overcome all the physical handicaps, yet her heart is still on crutches, limping and falling at times.
Let me pause here for a moment ! . A handicapped heroine!!! Very rarely has someone broached this subject matter before. And Jewel doesn’t shy away from the details at all ! A detailed description of her daily schedules, putting leg on / taking it off, different types of legs , from swimming to hiking legs, running to pretty legs…she spares no details. A very eye-opening peek…..an insight into the day to day life and struggles of an amputee !
Though lake is so high-spirited and positive person, I must give a standing ovation to Jewel for just thinking about designing such a courageous fighter as her central character . She has her struggles conquered and now she is on a mission , along with Prosthetic designer Thaddeus to help test and perfect prosthetic legs for other unfortunate people who are either born that way or lose limbs during combat for accidents.
“people didnt understand how we could joke about my missing limb.
Easy.
It happened.
It couldn’t be undone.
We’d met our grieving quota years before.
Life was too damn short,”
I swear I’d never realised what I take for granted !
Then steps in Cage Monaghan, a Minnesota Kings Quarterback. He’s built, ripped and sexy as OMFG!!
Lake is dumbfounded and my tongue hangs out.
The Clouds parted. The Ground shook. The Angels played their trumpets
He has the hardest physique and softest heart.
He follows her to China just to kiss her *swoooooooooon*
Let me repeat that He. Followed. Her. To. China . Just to kiss her because he missed 3 to changes in the states…omg!!
And lake is swept off her feet and knocked on her ass ! #GirlDown !
I was amazed every time a guy returned my phone call. Flowers sent my heart into arrhythmia. Following me to Beijing? Complete cardiac arrest.
Though to be honest this is their 3rd encounter. They’ve been missing chances for a long time because timing wasn’t right and their circumstances had pulled them away on their separate ways.
But as lake says Ben died and I lived…… I LIVED !!
There would to be apurose of it. So they embark on their love affair and path to HEA.
He hands her note cards at crucial juncture -Chapter 1…Chapter 2…Chapter 3.
“You want to know what comes after the epilogue?”
“What?”
“A new book filled with endless possibilities.”
OMG…this is the part where I have decided that I’m falling in love with Jewel. E. Ann.
Seriously the woman can write!! Her pen directly etched on my heart and soaked my soul with the gooey goodness of her honeyed words .
There was only one thing left to do. I clenched my fists at the center of my chest like a super hero ripping off their street clothes, but I ripped open my chest instead and silently said,
“Here’s my heart, just take it.”
Seriously, just take it !
Back to the story… there’s not many external forces that play havoc between them, as compared to their own hangups and vulnerabilities. Cage for his part is absolute sure from Day 1, that Lake is the one for him.
“You’re that girl, Lake. Had you not disappeared after that day in Omaha, I would be an elementary school teacher. I would not have chosen this life, because football is my life now. I don’t know how to balance this anymore, and if I’m honest, I don’t want to balance it. I want to give it up for you. I want being with you to be what I do every day because I swear to God I know I can do it better than anyone else. I love you, Lake. I love you in a way that makes me uncertain of everything in my life but you. I love you in a way that makes me want nothing but you.”
It’s lake who has to strengthen her spine and believe him, trust him, let him in. Losing a leg is nothing compared to her lost self confidence in her own desirability .
Losing my leg was easy compared to losing my heart to Cage, even if I did willingly hand it to him. With each passing day I knew I’d never get it back in one piece. Did he read the warning? Did he see the “Fragile. Handle with Care?”
Ben died and I lived. And right then, right there … I knew why.
I was so immersed in the book, I refused to come out. I wanted to sleep, lie, dwell in the book, among Lake, Banks & Shayna, Manny Jamie and the hairless cat-Trzy
Their story progresses well and ends…well…sorta ! The best thing was the proposal…omg, what a way to propose * Major*
“Give me you. Give me every tear. Give me every breath. Give me every fear. Give me every touch. Give me every smile. Give me every day.”
My heart…be still my heart !!
I noted a very significant thing that is almost common in all of Jewels books. There will be a huge smile plastered on your face throughout the read. That grin you carry will sometimes be through haze of tears, hiding pain, grinning at funny lines, laughing at hilarious faux pas, or hiding the hurt…the smile just stays there because what beautiful words…what beautiful thoughts ..amd what sparkling emotions. You CANNOT help BUT smile.
I hate myself that I read this book before reading Jack & Jill series, cause I was missing some info on previous characters, also I met Flint who I already met in Look The Part ! :major facepalm:
So in concluding my conclusion I’ll say if you’re like me, buried in the sand, take your head out, dust off the sand and pick up this book and just dive in , head first.
This is her best book !
“One is enough. It’s unique. It’s a chance, an opportunity, an experience. One is never greedy. One is independent. One can change everything.”
“One is the best.”
All it takes is one person to see your strength, and just like that … you’ve changed the world.
One is enough.
Couldn’t have said it any better.
I love, like in love, licking-her-brain-love, Jewel. This book will change your perspective, your thought process and your life !!!!
6 star for A New Book Filled With Endless Possibilities
“My mouth said thank you, but my heart said I love you.”
Jewel E Ann hits it out of the park again with One. This can be read as a standalone, but if you plan on ever reading the Jack & Jill series, you should read it before reading One because there are some spoilers.
Lake Jones lost a leg in a car accident, but that wasn’t the worst part. She lost her love. She lived, and Ben died. While she was grieving, she met Cage when she was traveling with her brother. She couldn’t give him any information about herself, but she comforted Cage while he was grieving the death of his father.
It was one moment. It was one lasting memory.
Years later, Lake moves to Minnesota to start a new life. She didn’t know that Cage was Minnesota’s NFL starting quarterback because she doesn’t follow football.
The story about Lake and Cage is refreshing, funny, and absolutely adorable. This wasn’t a tear jerker, but it definitely gave me the feels. I can’t wait to see what Jewel E. Ann cooks up next!
I loved this book! I loved that it was set in Minnesota, where I’m from, I felt like I was reading about neighbors. Lake and Cage were the love story we caught a tiny glimpse of in the Jack and Jill series. I loved the Lake’s storyline of her prosthetic leg and what she was able to do to over come her tragedy. The side characters were great additions to the craziness of their story. Just beautifully written.
“Life was a million things and something profoundly different to everyone, but stripped down to its most simplistic truth, life was always an experience.”
I am so glad Lake and Cage reconnected from their meeting in Dawn of Forever. Their story is so fun and heartwarming.
Lake is a breath of fresh air, fun and quirky and has a heart of gold. Cage, oh wow, what an amazing man. I love how he truly sees Lake and how deeply he loves her. I loved the chapters he would leave for Lake and his writing of their story. Their chemistry was beautiful.
Jewel E. Ann once again gives us a spectacularly written story with characters you can’t get enough of. Lake and Cage take your breath away. This story makes you laugh, smile, and touches your heart. Another Jewel E. Ann gem.
“I’d give her my last breath.”
Every book I read by Jewel E. Ann has been a piece of my heart put together by her incredible story telling and writing. Her stories seem that seem to produce perfect man is a true talent. Each one I don’t think can top a new one and she proves me wrong. Where can I find myself a Cage?! And don’t get me started on Lake. She is so strong, sassy, confident, and such a likable character. Cage and his dirty mouth – count me in.
Let me tell you that Jewel is not only a master of creating the perfect man but she is also the master of writing witty banter. I LOVE witty banter in any story I read. Lake & Cage have it in spades and it made me smile through every interaction they had.
One is a sports romance, second chance romance journey that I am so happy I could read about. It’s about disabilities not defining someone and overcoming their fears. It’s about a love you can have after you lose someone close to you. One is an all around greatly written story about two people who couldn’t be more perfect for each other.
I will say that this book can be read as standalone HOWEVER if you won’t want spoilers from Jewel’s Jack & Jill series, you will want to read those first. Lake is introduced in that book and she is just as sassy when she got her own book.

One! The extension of the Jack & Jill series is Lake and Cage’s story.
Loved it from beginning to end!
Now on to Flint’s story – Look the Part!
Jewel E. Ann binge reading is so much fun!
In true Jewel fashion One gave me all the feels. I laughed out loud and a few times I wanted to cry and throw my book. I loved getting to know Lake and Cage better. Jewel E Ann has a way of telling a story that pulls you in from page one and will keep you on your toes to the last page. I have loved every book I have read by her and am always ready to grab her next great read.
Unrealistic as relating to the athlete and nanny. This will not happen. The physical challenge was acceptably presented BUT the female character should have been on the pill if she decided to be sexually active. That element was stupid.
Rating: 5 PERFECT STARS
I’m always slightly scared when I start a Jewel E. Ann book because she likes the angst, but this story was perfection; I absolutely loved it.
Ok let’s be real- the Jack & Jill series is one of my all-time top favs because it is absolutely epic. Books have a hard time comparing and living up to those standards. However, I have been waiting and waiting for this book. I fell in love with Cage from the moment he took his dad’s crush on a date and I love him a million times more now. And don’t even get me started on Lake… she is the perfect heroine- smart, snarky, and strong as hell. They are amazing together. This book was everything I hoped for and more. A totally different vibe than End of Day and the rest of the series, but it works flawlessly and I loved it. I HIGHLY recommend this book but certainly not before you’ve read the Jack & Jill series which could be totally ruined for you if you read this first. Be smart about it, folks. 🙂
Let me begin by saying I love Jewel and in no way does that mean I’m giving an easy review. This book is phenomenal and so worth reading. As a fan of her books I was pleased to see how the characters in it related to other books. Trust me when I say you will fall in love with Jewel a little bit more after reading this incredible story.
So it’s fair to say that I LOVE Jewel E Ann’s books. I’ve read most of her books and they’re all individually unique and fabulous.
This is a story of living life. Truly “LIVING”. Of not being afraid to fall in love and give your heart away.
“Do you feel it?”
“Feel what?” He sat on the edge of my bed. “My heart beating in your hands.”
ONE was no exception. I freaken loved how much I loved it. Cage is “Wooooo” out of this Bookboyfriend world amazing. OMG!!! He had me swooning ALL KINDS. Lake “WOW” she was the best. Seriously impressive, wonderful and strong. I love her.
~ ~ “I’ll call you.”
“Pfft.” I rolled my eyes.
“You won’t remember me in the morning.”
“I won’t forget you when I’m dead.” He shut the door.
I’m a football fan so the fact that Mr. Cage plays in the NFL was simply a cherry on top for me.
~ “Don’t forget to love me.”…..“I’ll forget how to throw a football before I’ll forget to love you.”
**4.5 stars**
This was my first book by Jewel E. Ann and I can honestly say I loved it. Lake and Cage’s story, you were giggling to yourself one one minute and then you were completely swept off your feet over how perfect they were together.
Lake the woman who is so uniquely herself you couldn’t help but love her. She is a survivor. After losing her leg and her fiancé in an accident, she was given 6 months to grieve before she needed to snap out of it and live. Lake lives her life to the fullest and falling in love again.
Cage. I don’t even know where to start with him, besides where can I find one of him for myself in real life? Living life as an rookie NFL quarterback his amazing ability to sweep you off your feet is amazing. The amazing measures he took to kiss Lake again is one I will forever be slightly jealous over.
I loved the journey Lake and Cage took together to find their happily ever after. All I can say is, I hope we get Flint’s story.
I’ve read quite a few books by this author and there hasn’t been one that I haven’t loved. I read One straight after finishing the Jack and Jill trilogy and Lakes story was exactly what I needed.
In my mind, humor and angst go hand in hand with Jewel E. Ann’s books. One is a bit of a departure for her. It’s a sports romance that has all the wit, but none of the gut wrenching, anxiety producing conflicts I’ve come to expect. This book proves that Jewel can write lighthearted romantic comedy very well while maintaining an extremely touching quality.
What can I say about Cage, the hunky superstar quarterback with a huge heart? He’s an ice cream sundae with all the toppings. You’d have to be without a pulse if his romantic gestures and smooth lines don’t make you swoon.
Lake is one fierce woman: independent, confident, and bold. I love that she’s a survivor who doesn’t let her tragedies or disability define her. To say she’s also a little quirky is the understatement of the year. She has no impulse control when it comes to her words, and the things that fly out of her mouth are alternately hilarious and cringe worthy.
The blurb mentions Cage’s girlfriend. I know some readers are prickly when it comes to cheating, so let me just clarify that there is no cheating in this book. While the chemistry between Lake and Cage is intense, One is low on steam, with bedroom scenes that are more of the fade to black variety. This is a sexy but sweet romance. Shayna—the adorable little girl who lives across the hall from Lake—will definitely steal your heart.
What detracted from the story for me is that both Cage and Lake engage in some irrational and uncharacteristic behavior in the second half of the book. Fortunately, things get back on track and it’s a really enjoyable ride to the finish. The ending is absolute perfection.
Fans of the amazing Jack & Jill trilogy will appreciate the mini-reunion with characters from those books. One is a standalone spinoff; however, it contains spoilers from the Jack & Jill series so I recommend you read those books first.
This was such a great book! I am so glad I read the Jack and Jill series before I read this one. I loved Lake and Cage, they are great characters and their texts made me giggle a lot. I did think they were a couple of needless drama happenings and I just kept thinking- oy not again! But other than that, awesome story and I really hope Flint gets a book!
“One day. One kiss. One moment. One unforgettable memory.”
I had no expectations whatsoever when I started this book. This author was on my radar because I have many friends who LOVE her books. The blurb of One really piqued my interest and told myself: “Just read it!”.
“I think I loved him from the first day we met. Love was immune to time. Fuck the naysayers and anti-insta-lovers. They were nothing more than bitter people who had never met their one.”
Let me tell you that I am really happy I read One. This book was awesome! I was cracking up from the first chapter. Lake Jones is was one of the most fun characters I read about. She had me hooked to the story, she was sassy and really quirky. She was independent, strong, funny and so refreshing. Let’s move on to Cage Monaghan, who Lake met three years earlier and felt a connection like no other. However the timing wasn’t right and they lost contact. I loved how they reunited in this book. Cage was definitely an alpha male but also had a vey fun side to him. He was so romantic and I would just die if a guy did what he did. I would marry him on the spot. Of course all relationships have their ups and downs, and lake and Cage had theirs. In some situations Cage overreacted a bit but it fitted his personality. There was one particular scene towards the end that didn’t do it for me. It added unecessary drama that was a bit unrealistic in my eyes.
“A drug… Lake Jones was the drug for me. I’d happily die high on her. No regrets.”
I categorize this book as a more light/fun read. I don’t read a lot of those, but they would become my favorite genre if all of them were like One. For me it is really important that the book has an unique plot with really interesting characters. And oh boy did this book have some really amazing characters! I fell in love with ALL of them. I wish all the guys in this book would get their own story! There were some really inappropriate scenes in this book that had me laughing out loud, but they were perfect! I can’t wait to read more books by this author.
PS: This cover is PERFECT!
Loved this One.
I was so pleased to find Cage with his own book after reading the Jack & Jill series.
My heart broke for him in those books and I really wanted to see him happy, for him to find his One.
Well Cage reconnects with Lake a girl he met a few years previously, after a bad time in his life. He never forget her and doesn’t intend to let her get away again.
I loved Lake this girl has been through a terrible ordeal in which she lost her leg. This doesn’t slow her down in the slightest. Lake is fiercely independent, she’s quirky with a great sense of humour. She’s a Netflixs addict who occasionally stalks her neighbours through the doors peephole. The girl is crazy but I adore her she’d make the perfect best friend.
This book will make you smile, make you laugh and make your heart happy.
I loved this book, Flint was my favourite character. I’m so pleased to learn he also gets his own story. You can guess what I’m reading next.
Jewel E Ann is now officially a go to Author for me this is the fifth book in a row I’ve read by her and I’ve loved everyone.
