Blend a former tight end with a bad reputation and a gorgeous computer geek who doesn’t date.Toss in two matchmaking grannies who have only One Wish this Christmas.Lilly Martelli’s first vacation in over a year has her on a mission to support her two busybody relatives in St. Helena. Helping the grannies bake stinky fruitcakes for their Christmas bake sale is bad enough, but being forced to … is bad enough, but being forced to co-host the fund-raiser with Mr.-Fun-in-the-pants Brett Benning might be too hot to handle.
Brett had hoped retiring from football, becoming a firefighter, and moving back to Napa Valley would be enough to repair his reputation. But he’s sick to death of the tiny town gossip, and tired of dating in the shallow end of the pool. He’s looking to score The One.
What are the odds he’d find her while helping with the annual bake sale? His smart and sexy co-chair has him eating out of her hands and asking for seconds of her grandmother’s nasty fruitcake. For the first time in his life, Brett might be in over his head.
One Wish is a standalone, romantic comedy novella. Although you don’t have to read any of Kate’s other stories to enjoy this one, Love in the Vineyards fans will love seeing their favorite characters from other stories, as they get to know the Santino brothers’ lovable grandmother, Mimi, their quirky great-aunt Cha-Cha, and all their gorgeous cousins.
If you enjoy small town romances, romantic comedies, and sexy love stories with a full cast of strong heroines, drool worthy alpha heroes, and grannies in orthopedics, you’ll love One Wish.

One Wish is a Love TKO, Kisset style. Brett is the guy, your heart warns you about. Lily is the all american girl next door. Sweet with a hint of geek. With a heart determined to beware and a family of matchmakers, she could be in over her head. Kate Kisset prides herself on bringing out the laughter. Her stories are funny, her characters are stunning and her series are unforgettable.
One Wish by Kate Kisset is an enjoyably fun romance. Her Love in the Vineyard series brings you Lilly and Brett. Lilly is a programmer glued to her computer screen and former football player Brett who is now a firefighter and showcased as Mr. July in the firefighter calendar. Fruitcake baking grannies Cha Cha and Mimi are quite comical fruitcakes themselves. This was very well written, delightfully entertaining and sure to put you in the Holiday mood!
This is a quick yet highly entertaining holiday adventure filled with love, laughter, family and passion…. loved every sweetly thrilling moment and emotionally exciting twist. Was a fun afternoon read that I could not put down and put me in the holiday mood.
One Wish is a fun romance between Lilly the programmer and Brett the firefighter. Kate Kisset has written another great story that is a stand alone in her Love in the Vineyard series. The matchmaking, fruitcake baking grannies were a hoot. The romance is well written and entertaining. I highly recommend it.
Humorous love story set at Christmastime. Loved the grannies.
What a fun, hilarious, heart-warming Christmas story. This is the kind Hallmark makes holiday movies from. You can’t go wrong with a hot, former football star turned firefighter and the kinda geeky girl next door girl, crazy fun grannies and a fruitcake! This is one that I know I will read again and again!
What a lovely Christmas novella.
Lilly comes to town to spend the Christmas season with her grandmother and the rest of her family. Finding love? Not in her wheelhouse. She is taking time off from her successful job as a programmer and needs the slow pace of home.
Brett, former football star and now a firefighter. His reputation precedes him, but Lilly knocks him off his romance game. She’s the real deal and he can’t wait to know her better.
Hilarious characters that we’ve come to know and love in other books in this series are in attendance, and Cha-Cha and Mimi are the bomb!! Fruit cake, a town bazaar, misunderstandings, and romance ensue.
A quick, entertaining novella!
Good mixture of romance with zany characters and community spirit at Christmas. Love the hunky firefighter, former professional ballplayer hero and the heroine’s matchmaking aunt and granny! Fruitcake, that ubiquitous and everlasting holiday gift, is a major “character” is this one.
ONE WONDERFULLY SWEET TREAT!!!
Wow! Talk about an amazing little treasure. Kate works her magic with this little gem. So touching and sincere. The love and chemistry between the two main characters is such a beautiful thing to behold. All the twists and turns, unexpected circumstances and unpredictable surprises around every corner make for one heart melting adventure. Throw in a couple matchmaking busy bodies and you have the making for one touching not to mention a little humorous story that just draws you in so deep it makes for a fantastic feel good read. Watching as the sparks fly, they’re instantly drawn to one another. Stronger than either had thought possible. All the drama, love, heart pounding, pulse racing, smooth flowing, page turning and a little intrigue make for one incredible experience. With a whirlwind of emotions and events that really make the storyline pop. The characters and scenes are written with such realism it really pulls this little treasure together beautifully. Kate totally nailed this little jewel hands down, 100% on point details and descriptions. You feel everything the characters feel. You become part of the story instead of a bystander. You fall so deeply in love with the couple and root for them to make it. Kate did a phenomenal job bringing this read to life flawlessly. Magnificent job Kate, thanks for sharing this little jewel with us.
Brett & Lily certainly don’t seem like a good match. The hot, sexy ex-football player turned firefighter & the sweet, geeky girl next door? This wouldn’t work in most people’s imaginations. Kate Kisset creates characters that are endearing & realistic. Her supporting characters are as essential to the story as the main characters are. Two fruitcake loving matchmakers are trying to set Lilly & Brett up. Lilly spends more time trying to make sure it appears that people are buying their fruitcake then she does trying to escape their plans. Brett thinks it’s all funny until he realizes his feelings for Lilly are deeper than for anyone else. Will they find a way to make it work?
Kate Kisset manages to put more emotion, connection, and character development into a novella than many authors do in a full-length novel, and this talent serves “One Wish” extremely well. By the end, I felt that I knew the characters, understood their motivations, and had an overwhelming sense of contentment. A lovely read.
I love all of Ms. Kisset’s books and was so happy that she re-published/re-wrote this story.
“One Wish” is a short and sweet romance.
Lilly is helping her grandmother and great-aunt sell their fruitcakes at the town’s annual fair during the Christmas season. Only problem, they are really bad fruitcakes (are there any good ones?). Add in a retired, but still hot football player turned firefighter (OMG! I need my own fire extinguisher) and you get a dash of romance, plus some really funny times with the nosy grannies.
What a laugh out loud funny, romantic, sexy romance. Laughter and love should go hand in hand. Loved this one!!!
One more romantic comedy by Kate Kisset, full of fun and enjoyable to read. So delightful.
This time I met Lilly and Brett’s love story. I was already a Lilly fan and after following all her overdose of sweetness in One Wish, I fell in love even more.
I can not stop talking about ChaCha and Mimi, Lilly’s grandmothers, who steal the scene whenever they appear innocent and with dangerous fruitcakes. I laugh too much with them.
I loved the cover, the couple very much reminded me of Brett and Lilly, always smiling, affectionate and cute.
5/5 stars
