You’ve known Harper Allen and Jakob Titov since you met them in Taking Shots. You know their story already, right? Ha! You only think you do. In One-Timer, they’ll tell it for themselves. Harper has been hurt so many times, and she has no interest in anything more than a one-time thing, but Jakob Titov has other ideas. He is looking for his forever. He has his sights set on a girl who is so good … girl who is so good at blocking his attempts, she could be a star goalie in the NHL. Jakob is persistent, though, and he knows what he wants: Harper—forever. together, he knows they’ll make one hell of a team.
The last twenty years have been even better than they could have dreamed. But when their daughter comes home, informing them she’s giving up everything for a boy, they know it’s past time to tell the truth about the shutout they scored all those years ago to get where they are.
It wasn’t easy. But sometimes, that one-time thing leads to a fairy-tale kind of ending.

5 star Review One Timer (Nashville Assassins #17) by Toni Aleo
I have only read a few books by Toni Aleo, but what I have read I have really enjoyed. This is in fact the first book in this particular series that I have read and I admit I was concerned that I would be a little lost reading this story. That was not the case, although I do believe I would have enjoyed the story even more if I had the benefit of having read the previous books in the series.
This is Harper Allen and Jakob Titov’s story who I believe have been secondary characters in previous books. Now it’s their turn; this story is told in present day and retrospectively as Harper and Jakob tell their 20 year old daughter about their path to love.
It’s so interesting that it was Harper who didn’t want a relationship and Jakob who was the one who wanted so much more. He knew it was time to settle down with “the one” and he knew that Harper was the one woman for him, all he had to do is convince her. Easy, right? Not so much.
I found this fascinating reading and I was drawn in and captivated by the story, so much so that I read One Timer in one go; I simply couldn’t put it down.
This is a novella but for such a short story Ms. Aleo certainly packed it full of of memorable and emotional moments that will have her fans cheering from the sidelines.
OMG I loved this book so much! It was so great to finally see how Harper and Jakob got together and follow their amazing love story. And what a heartfelt and true love story it is! I am so in love with Jakob!! And what a firecracker Harper was! Still is. In reading about them in the present, it is so clear to see that their love story is still going stronger than ever after 22 years. That just makes me so happy! I really enjoyed how Toni Aleo wrote this story. How she has Jakob and Harper telling their story to their daughter Ally because she is at an important crossroads in her life and they don’t want her to regret anything. I loved every single word from beginning end! Bravo Toni!!
My Kiska, My Forever….
Having Harper and Jakob reminisce about how they met to their daughter Allison was sublime to read. Hearing them both give parental advice about the struggles and victories they experienced together was priceless. I loved how Toni Aleo weaved Ellie and Shea into this story. I have missed them so. Jakob is one amazing man and one of a kind. He never gives up on Harper. She is his soul mate, his one true love.
I loved Harper & Jakob’s story! You don’t realize they piggy backed on Elly & Shea’s story in Taking Shots, yes you got some of their story, but this is where you get the whole dang thing! And I loved it! 5 hockey pucks for this, loved revisiting the Assassins again!
As Harper and Jakob try to deal with their daughter Ally wanting to give everything up for a guy, because she wants the perfect love her parents and others that surround her have, Harper and Jakob go back to the beginning and tell Ally their story from twenty years ago! And you will swoon even more as you follow along and hear what they have to say!
Grab this one asap!
This was everything and more i wanted for Harper and Jakob’s story. It was so good. I always wanted to know their story and for a while it wasnt in the cards but im soooooo happy she decided to write their’s. Happy reader here. I loved seeing it all the way from the beginning and how things went. We saw a side of them we weren’t able to see from Taking Shots which was Elli and Shea’s book. I loved it all. I loved how they were straight up and told Ally everything. Now im super excited for Posey’s book! Come on December!!!!!!
We met Jakob & Harper in Taking Shots the best friends of Shea & Ellie Adler, but now we get to see where they are now and how their story really unfolded.
Life has been good for The Titov’s over the past twenty years, but when their daughter is at a crossroads in her life they can’t help relieve there relationship with her and tell her it’s not always roses.
So many amazing stories come to light and how they struggled to be together and stay together but when you know this is the person you are meant to be with you fight for that love and life.
I loved reading about Jakob & Harper once again and seeing them brings back what an incredible story there’s is and was but it also lets me know that The Assassins can go on and on and you still won’t have enough.
This short novella gives us a more in depth look at Jakob and Harper’s relationship. We’ve seen a lot of Jakob and Harper in the previous Assassins books, but this time we get more of their story.
From the moment Jakob Titov laid eyes on Harper Allen he knew she was the one. Harper had a different idea of how things would play out. She’s been hurt before, so she is more of a love them and leave them type of girl now. Jakob is determined to prove to her that not all guys are terrible. He wants to be her forever guy and once he convinces her the rest is history. For twenty years, they’ve been living their best lives, but when their daughter comes home ready to throw it all away for a boy, the two revisit their past and show Allison the ups and downs of their relationship. Through love and loss Jakob and Harper fall more in love with each other, showing Ally that while it wasn’t easy, it’s turned out just how they wanted.
I have been waiting/needing/begging for Jakob and Harper’s story since I first got hooked on Toni Aleo. And let me tell you, this may be a novella but it packs the punch of a full length novel. I absolutely LOVED getting to see more of Jakob and Harper and to see how Jakob won Harper over. To read about the things they’ve gone through and the losses they’ve suffered that only made them stronger in the end was heartbreakingly beautiful. I didn’t even get past the first chapter and I was in tears because of how much I love these characters. Every single Toni Aleo book gives me all the feels. She is truly amazing, and this book was an absolutely great addition to the Assassins series, and got me super pumped for the next book!!
