You’ve known Harper Allen and Jakob Titov since you met them in Taking Shots. You know their story already, right? Ha! You only think you do. In One-Timer, they’ll tell it for themselves. Harper has been hurt so many times, and she has no interest in anything more than a one-time thing, but Jakob Titov has other ideas. He is looking for his forever. He has his sights set on a girl who is so good … girl who is so good at blocking his attempts, she could be a star goalie in the NHL. Jakob is persistent, though, and he knows what he wants: Harper—forever. together, he knows they’ll make one hell of a team.
The last twenty years have been even better than they could have dreamed. But when their daughter comes home, informing them she’s giving up everything for a boy, they know it’s past time to tell the truth about the shutout they scored all those years ago to get where they are.
It wasn’t easy. But sometimes, that one-time thing leads to a fairy-tale kind of ending.

This is a novella about Harper and Jakob Titov life after retiring from NHL, the kids are adults now, and deciding what type of job he wants. Their daughter Ally is in love with a dirt bag, and not only does she want to live with him, but move to Texas with him. The parents are upset because Allison has a full ride scholarship to Bellevue college. They don’t want to see her give up her dreams and regret them later. You get to visit with Elli and Shea and see into the lives of Harper and Jakob. I can’t wait to read Allison’s book. You know it’s going to be great!!!
Wow! What a story! We get to finally see Harper & Jakob’s story & how it all played out. They have a great relationship with two wonderful kids. When one of their daughters comes home & informs them that she is in love with a guy who really isn’t that good for her, they decide to tell their story & how they got to where they are today. Harper had her guard up around Jakob forever & wouldn’t let him in. He knew that they were meant to be together. Jakob didn’t give up on Harper & it paid off. They have been through so much together & their love has grown even stronger. Toni Aleo did a wonderful job telling their story. She had me hooked from the start. I love how she ties everything all together.
It’s no secret that Taking Shots is my favorite book with it’s amazing supporting characters, Jakob and Harper, Shea and Elli’s best friends. It was pure brilliance for Mrs. Aleo to give us a look into Harper and Jakob’s story both past and present in One Timer.
This book finally fills the gaping hole we all have been feeling, a missing piece to the puzzle. I absolutely love that we get Jakob and Harper’s point of views on Shea and Elli’s relationship and to see the history behind Elli and Harper growing up as best friends and a look into their lives now. Jakob and Harper give us serious couple goals with how devoted they are to each other and all the things they have been through and had to overcome. Their love is timeless.
Jakob and Harper’s story is amazing and completely relatable. All of us want to think that our parents met and poof…happily ever after. When, in fact, dating, loving, and lasting marriage all take a great deal of strength and work. This book has proof of this in spades. We’d always gotten snippets of Jakob and Harper in other books over the years, but their story and the reasons for telling it are a perfect match. This book left me hoping to read more about them in future Toni Aleo books. She has a way of pulling you into her writing and making it feel as if you could hop into the pages as a part of it. We already knew Jakob was the romantic, but his character is so thoughtful and wise in his words and actions. And, he was so calm….a characteristic this reader shares with Harper! This book should be a required read for people recovering from broken hearts, because it will make you believe again AND it reminds you true love isn’t easy but it is worth the time and effort.
One Timer is a novella that gives readers the chance to see how the romance of Harper Allen and Jakob Titov came to be. Harper isn’t looking for commitment, she’s more of a hit it and quit it kind of girl. She’s been hurt one too many times to let any guy get close to her. She sees Jakob at a photoshoot for the Nashville Assassins and knows he’s a sure thing for a one-night stand, but Jakob has other ideas. He sees Harper and her purple hair and knows what he wants which starts with for and ends with ever. Harper isn’t going down without a fight, but when an injury sidelines Jakob, her feelings can no longer be denied.
One Timer is a jam packed novella with all the feels! Harper and Jakob are one of my favorite couples that we originally met in Taking Shots (The Assassins Series Book 1). Their story spans 20 years and, to an outsider, seems like a fairy-tale. The truth about most love stories is that things are never easy, but the best things, the things worth fighting for never are.
I love this series and the latest addition didn’t let me down, it was all I expected and more. Jakob and Harper have been part of The Assassins franchise since the start but this is the first time we get the full story on Ellie and Shea’s best friends.
In a different approach, We hear the story direct from the couple themselves as they share it all with their daughter. Showing her what real love is. He loved her from the moment he saw her, she wanted a one night stand, Jakob worked hard to earn Harper’s love and ayttempots to convince his daughter she should expect the same from a man.
I absolutely love how this gives you a little more of Harper and Jakob. I absolutely love their story. Harper and Jakob have instant chemistry. It was enjoyable to be able to see if through their eyes as they tell it to their daughter. This was a well written book from beginning to end. A few very touching moments in the storyline. Toni has a wonderful talent for telling a romance and this one proves that. I love how they show their daughter that love is not all roses and sunshine. An amazing addition to this series. Highly recommend.

One Timer by Toni Aleo is a continuation of Jacob and Harper (Allen) Titov’s (Taking Shots) love story 20 years later when their daughter wants to give everything up for a boy. Jacob and Harper tell her about about their own love story in hopes that it would persuade her to change her mind. Wondering what her decision will be but no spoiler’s here because you have to read this book yourself.
This book is part of The Assassin’s Hockey series by Toni Aleo and is just as well written as her other books that I have read. If you love hockey and romance then you need to read this book.
The author has a much better imagination than I have that is for sure. It was fun reading about what has been going between Harper and Jakob instead of just the bits and pieces the reader gets in other books. Sharing with the reader by talking to their daughter–genius. Let the count down begin to Posey’s story!!!!
The book that we all have been waiting for since the beginning! IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT!!!! Toni Aleo does it yet again with her latest book One Timer. If you have been reading her books you, just like I, have been waiting for Harper and Jakob’s story since her VERY FIRST book! If on the off chance that you haven’t been reading her… a) GO GET THEM NOW!!! and b) you can read this as a stand alone. Toni Aleo has endless amounts of creativity and talent as proven with the way each book she writes just gets better and better. This book not only tells you Harper and Jakob’s story of life and love but also gives you a different point of view from conversations in previous books and even some things that you might not have seen or caught from book one. The way that she tells the conversations between each character and the world that she creates is nothing short of amazing.
Harper Allen has been burned by love one too many times and is only looking for a good time. Jakob Titov falls is looking for love and THE ONE and he thinks that Harper is it. Will he be able to convince her that he’s not going to hurt her? Will she finally push him away for good? You definitely have to read this book to find out. I’m not going to give it away. If you’ve read other books of Toni’s you know the ending…. but you HAVE to read how it came to be. Go as fast as you can, one click to buy, go to the store to pick it up, order online. How ever you have to get this book do it! You won’t be disappointed. You’ll not only fall in love with these characters but want them as your friends. Only problem is you won’t be able to stop with just one book! They’ll become like your favorite go to snack… you can’t have just one!
Beautiful is the first word that has come to my head both times I’ve read this book. This is Harper and Jakob’s story. But it’s not told in the typical way. This is the conversation that a lot of parents end up having with their kids, right around the time they have their first relationships. It is the honest conversation that parents have about how they got together. This book is so full of love, without being anywhere near chessy. This is a great book to give a deep boost to you soul.
I was so excited for Toni Aleo’s latest! If you’ve been wondering and waiting for Jakob and Harper’s book, wait no more…This book is full of so many feels and ups and downs. It’s packed full of so many emotions that kept me reading and anticipating how their story would turn out. I shed tears, both happy and sad for these two. I adore the Assassin’s world the author has built, each and every character has stayed with me through each book in the series. I can’t get enough! Highly recommend!
I honestly found it very hard to connect with this book. I wanted to. I tried. I even stopped reading this book, read another book, and came back to this one in my effort to be drawn into this story.
It was extremely well-written with a good story line about two parents trying to prevent their young daughter from throwing away her life and goals for the future in order to leave town with a young man who had, basically, given her an ultimatum of leaving town with him.
Three-quarters of the story is told in flash back so that they can relay to their daughter how the got together and how hard they had to work to stay that way. I didn’t care for the peripheral characters – I think that may have been because some of their stories had already been told, leaving me feeling like things had happened in the past that may have been important to this story.
It was an okay read for me.
f you craved more of Jakob TItov and Harper Allen’s story then this is the perfect treat just in time for the holidays! We got glimpses of Jakob and Harper in Taking Shots, Toni Aleo revisits this iconic couple to give us all the details of a love for the ages in the making. Tough as nails Harper and unflappable Jakob make for a funny, sweet duo as they explain the way they came together and overcame everything for love! In addition to their cat and mouse romance Shea and Elli’s story unfolds through the eyes of their friends which gives this newest Assassin’s novel a well rounded combination of old and new!
Once again Mrs Aleo has done it again
Harper and Jakob are amazing of course along with their story! I absolutely loved this book like always. It was great hearing all about their beginning and letting us take a trip down memory lane to remember why this series means so much to us and how we have loved them all since Shea and Ellie.
Can’t wait for Posey’s story and all the others to come.
This novella was everything I wanted and more from the Assassins series. As many Toni fans, we were always curious about Harper and Jakob story. In this novella, all of our unanswered questions are finally revealed.
It’s a story about never giving up and never settling for less than you deserve. Jakob wanted Harper and gave her the allotted space until he won her over. It was heartbreakingly beautiful.
The story takes place 20 years into their relationship. I think from all of her books, this story was poetic. If you’re a diehard Toni fan, this book is for you. More so if you’ve read the first Assassin’s book.
I give this book 7+stars
Loved Jakob and Harper. We first got to meet them in Taking Shot so it was nice to see how their relationship started. Their daughter tells them that she wants to leave school so she can follow a guy to Texas because she thinks that love is all sunshine and roses. Her parents get to tell their story and that it wasn’t as easy for them as she believes. Loved the characters and the whole story.
I received an ARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
4 1/2 stars
Jakob and Harper get to tell their daughter the story of how they fell in love again. Love is never an easy path especially when the girl of your dream won’t even admit she is dating you. Jakob had to work hard to get Harper to love him. Why he might have fallen in love with her quickly, she had to be convinced. Sometimes realizing that love is not smooth, but worth fighting for makes all the difference.
I adored that Harper and Jakob finally got to show their own story. I can’t wait to read about their children in future books.
You want one night…how about a life time of nights? < One Timer took me back to the beginning! To get an up and close look into Jakob & Harper was like getting your favorite sundae with all the toppings. Get wrapped into the love, patience and devotion that Jakob has for Harper from the get go. To see their relationship grow and get Harper’s point on her falling in love was perfect. The twists, turns and laughter are everything and more. Get ready to fall in love all over again...but not just for that One-Timer!

One Timer was a short novella within the Nashville Assassins NHL series by Toni Aleo.
Aleo took us back to the beginning in a very unique way. Harper Allen and Jakob Titov were Elli and Shea’s best friends, respectively (Book one, Taking Shots.) It had been so long, I didn’t realize they didn’t have their own book. In One Timer, Aleo told us Harper and Jakob’s story through their first born, Allison. It was creative and also a way to set the stage for Allison to have her own story within the Bellevue Bullies series – or one of the other spin off series!
In going backward in time, we were able to relive some of Elli and Shea’s story through a different perspective while also getting to know Harper and Jakob better. I totally fell in love with Jakob. He was confident, funny and romantic. A true love story.
All in all, it was a quick and entertaining read. I enjoyed going back and revisiting some of our earlier favorites while simultaneously prepping for the future. Next up is Posey (Elli and Shea’s second child) in Power Play, the second book of the Nashville Assassin’s Next Generation.
