Newman made an unethical mistake for a law enforcement officer and withheld evidence pertaining to a murder investigation. On top of that, he cheated on his girlfriend and lied about it to his friends and his partner. He was on a downward spiral to nowhere without a job, friends or his dignity. So he ran away, seeking solitude in a small cabin that held memories of his grandfather. He was solely responsible for his actions, and had no one else to blame. Loneliness took over his life until Amelia knocked on his door with her cute pink hair and brazen attitude. He could already tell she was going to be a handful and he really wished she would go away and leave him to wallow in his grief and despair.
Amelia is at the end of her rope and is desperate to find her brother. Most of the people in town spoke very highly of Newman and she felt that she could trust him and that he was the one for the job. She found him sexy and handsome, as well as sad, troubled and brooding. Amelia sensed that Newman needed to feel wanted and worthy again, and she realized it would be difficult breaking through his gruff exterior. She knew that deep down inside, Newman was a man who deserved someone to listen to him, comfort him and love him, and she wanted to be that woman.
Amanda Siegrist’s One Taste Series is one of my favorites and I love all of the books in the series. I had been patiently waiting for Newman’s story and she accurately portrayed him as a troubled but good man, who was searching for redemption and for the right woman, to make his life meaningful once again.
I have read the entire series, from Book I, One Taste of You, Zeke and Zoe’s story and it has been fun to follow these Sex and the City type ladies, but instead of roaming the city looking for love, it seems to find them through the mysteries they become involved in.
Lately, I seem to find all the notes I take when reading slip by the wayside when it comes time to write the reviews. My mind seems to be in two different places and the characters dictate which scenario will be played out as I type.
Newman…what can I say. He got what he deserved when he cheated and the lies began to run rampant. He doesn’t have very good coping skills, so he tends to act out instead of facing the tough decisions. But…I feel people deserve second chances when they feel remorse. It can be a learning experience, when the offense was done ‘innocently’. He never did it with malice. He was stuck in a corner and panicked…
I love to see a character earn their redemption. None of us are perfect, so why do we expect perfection from others? Something to think about when we are placing blame and judgment on someone else.
We do need some laughs and giggles to help us get through the tough times of kidnapping and danger that dogs the unlucky siblings, Amelia and Adam. Why were they targeted?
Now…I think this will be the last story told in this series and I love the way Amanda Siegrist wrapped it up, especially when she wasn’t expecting the story to be told. Thanks so much to the reader who insisted that Newman needed a chance…All the characters made an appearance, plus we meet a couple of new ones. After all, Newman needs some love too. He just needs a smack upside the head, a young man in need of a role model and the sister who sure could use a hand raising him.
Amanda keeps her novels…pretty clean…and loves her happy endings. Don’t we all?
I voluntarily reviewed a free copy of One Taste of Redemption by Amanda Siegrist.

When Amelia’s brother is in trouble and the police won’t help, she is forced to look elsewhere for help. When Amelia walked into Newman’s life, it was at a time when he needed someone the most even though he insists otherwise. I thoroughly enjoyed this action-packed romance. Highly recommend!
This is the fifth book in the One Taste series. I truly enjoyed reading this book. It was well written. It was a page turner and I was hooked from the first page. I thought it was an action packed and a heart warming story. I look forward to reading more stories by this author. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book is so aptly named with it being about Newman. Yes he was wrong and made some bad choices but this is his chance and he takes full advantage of it. A great mystery with some thrills and chills, we follow his journey. There’s plenty of introspection and yeah he allows that inner voice that has done him in since he was a child govern his actions. Through it all we find out he’s not a bad guy and kinda take that journey with Mel the one person who seems to believe in him. She’s a pistol and just what he needs to end his pity party and set off in a direction that really sets him up for the good things he deserves and to forgive himself. It’s a great story that rounds out this series of standalone reads even though they are all interconnected. I’ve probably said it too many times about this author but I gotta say it again. I love the way this author does her twist and turns and brings it all together in the end.
Well now, truth be known I started not to read this particular book. Newman was just not my favorite character in this series. In fact I wanted to bop him upside the head (and then some) several times. But then I thought to myself that their had to be more to this guy than just the obvious. Kudos to the author for a job well done and convincing me there is still good in people, you just might have to dig deep and fight to see it.
Ms. Siegrist not disappoint me with Newman’s story. She delivered a well written heartfelt book with characters my heart just broke for, even Newman. Newman is self destructing. He’s fighting inner demons that have wrapped around his mind from a young age. Always striving to be perfect and just falling short. Amelia (Mel) is one tough cookie. Being raised in an abusive home, she has let it shape her into a woman no one is going to abuse or take advantage of. She is now a very strong independent woman who is often looked down on for her past and of course her pink hair. But she too is struggling. She has been given custody of her 13 year old brother, Adam, who she can’t get through to and seems to hate her. But Adam is just a mixed up teenager with no male influence he can talk to. But suddenly Adam goes missing and the police won’t take Mel seriously, she has no one to turn to but the disgraced detective that the town likes to gossip about. From here the story took off taking my heart and my soul with it. I felt their hurt, pain, determination, love, forgiveness and so many more emotions I can’t even put into words.
2 Thumbs Up and 5 Amazing stars for an Outstanding read that I Highly Recommend.
I have loved every book in the One Taste Series but I have to say Newman’s story is my favorite.
Newman was a Detective who through many bad choices lost it all. While “licking” his wounds at his Grandfathers cabin, a pink haired tornado came busting in. Amelia needed his help to find her missing brother but Newman was done with that part of his life. Amelia would not give up.
Eventually he gives in and decides to help if only to get her to leave…….
So many times throughout the book I thought I had things figured out but the twists and turns kept me guessing. I loved Newman’s tortured soul from the beginning but I fell in love even more.
The characters are very believable. I can picture each and everyone of them. It’s almost like this story was ripped from the headlines and made into a book. Thank you Amanda for giving Newman a voice.
We met Newman in previous books, and he wasn’t all that likable of a character, but I think One Taste of Redemption is going to make you change your mind about him. He’s home, nursing his wounds from losing his job as a detective when Amelia shows up at his door. Her 13-year-old brother is missing and she doesn’t care that the local police just think he’s run away, she knows differently, and she feels Newman is the only one that can find him.
Amelia has had to endure a lot in life. A father was abusive and her mother dumped her brother Adam off with her before taking off. But despite her rough past, Amelia has come out swinging. She’s not afraid to talk about what she’s gone through. She’s an incredibly brave character and if there’s anyone that can help Newman learn to forgive himself, Amelia is it.
I like these two together and no matter how much Newman wants to beat himself up about his past, Amelia is right there with him. The book is titled Redemption so you know someone is going to work on earning it. Very well-written with a hint of characters from the series we’ve come to love, this is a wonderful addition to the series. Nicely done.
How much did I love One Taste of Redemption??? If I could give this review 100 hearts and stars, I totally would. Amanda hit it on the spot of swooniness!!! I loved Newman! He stole the show and my heart. He is rough around the edges and has a tough attitude. The kind I gravitate towards and won’t let go!
Lets talk about Amelia. She is bold and sticks by her truth! I adored her and knew she was the perfect match for Newman. The tension that rose from the pages told me that there was more to these two than the eye could see. I was not disappointed.
The story line had me glued to my Kindle. The world stop for that day and I was lost in their world and came to love the side characters as well. Great story written by an amazing author!
Another great romance crime mystery from Amanda Siegrist. I swear every time I read one of her books I am blown away again. In this book she managed to take a character that should be the anti hero. We know him as a cheater and liar. But Amanda Siegrist found a way for him to be the hero and a favorite character to readers. Newman used to be a detective. That is until he cheated on his serious girlfriend and that betrayal lead to him to lie during a murder investigation and even made him a suspect. Now he is living in a cabin that his grandfather left to him. He just wants to live alone and punish himself for his mistakes. When Amelia comes banging on his door asking for help to find her missing brother he tries all he can to get rid of her. He learns quickly that’s not an option. Together they try to find her 13 year old brother that the police chief has decided is a run away and not worth looking for. As if looking for a missing person with no real clues isn’t hard enough, Newman also is trying to resist this beautiful, feisty woman that may just be his perfect match. While he wants to be the bad guy and hate himself, Amelia sees who he truly is and won’t let him punish himself anymore. Talk about a perfect match. This book has it all: drama, humor, romance, mystery, suspense… I couldn’t put it down. I suggest this book to all romance and mystery fans. Warning: you will be hooked!
Get ready to get so invested in this storyline! After making self-destructive decisions, Newman has secluded himself from everything in order to recover from what he has done. Amelia’s brother has gone missing, and rumor is that Newman would be the only person who would help in their small town. After approaching him at home and refusing to take no for an answer, Newman decides to help Amelia, with her helping him as well. Throughout the course of the investigation, his old partner and co-workers come to help him, and both Amelia and Newman start to heal from their pasts. The ending is a total twist in my opinion! I didn’t see it coming, but I also didn’t see the resolution of Amelia’s brother’s abduction. I was also really surprised to see who was involved – this story kept me guessing on all fronts throughout the course of the book! While I did get confused at moments (which were probably from not reading the books previous in the series), overall I enjoyed the book!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
One Taste of Redemption is the fifth book in the One Taste series. It can be read as a stand alone. I had not read the previous books yet still was able to enjoy this one.
After destroying his career as a detective, Newman goes into seclusion at his grandfather’s cabin.
Amelia goes to Newman as a last resort to get his help in finding her brother.
The story is action packed and full of suspense and is a journey in finding redemption and forgiveness.
Amelia knocks on Newman’s door asking for help finding her brother. Desperately needing his help, she ignores his brash & rude attitude & refuses to leave. Newman, no longer a detective, has done things to hurt himself, his friends, his co-workers, & his ex-girlfriend that are unforgivable in his eyes. The last thing he needs or wants is a sassy, tough woman demanding his help. As they spend time together trying to figure out what happened to her brother, he realizes he no longer wants to live a life of solitude & knows he needs to make amends with his friends. With Amelia’s faith & trust, Newman believes he can finally forgive himself & ask forgiveness of those he hurt. A good story of redemption, forgiveness, & finding love when you least expect it.
This is the 5th book in this awesome series, and is Newman and Amelia’s story. Newman is a tortured soul who is an ex detective as he destroyed his career, and prefers to live in solitude. Amelia is desperate to find her missing brother, and is recommended to approach Newman by some of the people in town. This is a wonderful story which is heartbreaking, heart-warming, and is filled with suspense as well as action packed. I was hooked and intrigued throughout this addictive page turner, and recommend for all readers.
Once upon a time he was known as Detective Newman, now no more-through his own fault. He suddenly meets Amelia Benedict who is as tenacious as she is beautiful. Living in the small town of Napleton his name is given to her as someone who could help find her lost brother…unfortunately he doesn’t want to help.
Yes, the lead character is an arrogant, pain in the backside who whines quite a bit but I found he does have some redeeming qualities. It’s funny how you can dislike a character then when reading things from their point of view, find out they’re not the devil you thought they were were! I can’t say Newman is a fuzzy, warm man but I quite liked him in this story. I liked his self honesty and no excuses policy. Amelia I like immediately, she, for all of her depressing upbringing, is a strong, sassy female lead character.
You definitely feel the full gambit of emotions throughout this book. The light humour makes you chuckle and it helps to balance the darker elements of the story. There is danger and fear with the suspense element; a sense of frustration, anger, heartbreak and love in more than one form. There’s the love of a brother and sister, of a friend, a husband and wife and of a lover.
Once the action and drama starts to heat up it’s full on and you can feel your heart beating rapidly. The old baddies versus the goodies scenario never gets old and never fails to get the adrenaline pumping.
