I love Heather Moore’s books and One Summer Day was a fabulous romance.
I really like the dialogue the author has going within this story. I’m appreciative of struggles and triumphs presented here. The cover art is so uplifting and delightful and matches well my feeling after reading the story. I felt like loving my husband more, I noticed more ways he shows me he loves me, and I enjoyed contemplating the book in my down time and on my walk. I love books that give wholesome examples of how to be fun and physically intimate. I look forward to the next in the series!
Macie is simply trying to do the right thing for her daughter. What she doesn’t expect is her strong feelings for her ex’s brother – the brother she actually met first.
Holt knew he liked Macie, but his feelings are now off the charts. Can he get past the obvious hurdles in order to have a relationship with her?
This book obviously has a lot of emotion to it. The subject matter alone is heavy. But, the author is able to work things out and still make it realistic. I appreciate how real the characters are and that the ex isn’t demonized, just flawed. In fact, all the characters have some sort of flaw, it’s just a matter of how they seek to overcome those flaws.
Romance – PG / kissing
Language – PG / PG13 – mild cursing
Violence – PG / fist fight
My rating – 5 stars
I’m so excited for a new contemporary romance series from this author! Her writing style appeals to me and I especially appreciate the maturity in her characters and their genuine personalities. Macie and Holt both have their struggles and regrets, but coming to know each other opens their hearts to hope and healing. I loved the ranch setting and the cozy atmosphere. It was impressive how Macie always treated her mother-in-law with respect, even though it must have been hard with some of the words and attitudes that were well-meaning but hurtful all the same. Holt is such a good uncle and opens Macie’s eyes to how wonderful it is to have a supportive and encouraging partner in raising a child. There is plenty of conflict with Macie’s ex-husband encroaching on her newfound peace and Holt’s new hopes for a deeper relationship with Macie. There are complex family dynamics that come into play, especially with issues with the ranch and their mother’s health. The sweet friendship and romance between Macie and Holt, and the fun personality of her daughter bring a lightness that balances the heavier themes. I can’t wait to read more in the series!
(I received a complimentary copy of the book; all opinions in this review are my own)
I LOVED the whole feel of this one. It’s set in a small town in Texas, Prosper to be precise. It just feels like a small town intimate and everyone knowing everything about everybody else. The author did such a great job on the setting.
The main character is Macie. She’s come to Texas so her young daughter can get to know the only grandparents she has left. I loved the bravery of Macie to do this. Macie has gotten divorced from Ruby’s dad. And she knows that she’s going to hear all about it from his family. But still she comes, on her own.
Then there’s Holt. He and Macie have a bit of a history. But both of them try to pretend they don’t still have feelings for each other. I really liked Holt. He was so good with Ruby. He does everything he can for his parents, and his siblings. And he’s willing to back off when Macie needs him to.
This was one of those books that just grabbed my attention from the very first page. I can’t wait to read more of this series!
I was sent an e-copy of One Summer Day as a gift from the author. All opinions are my own.
A great start to a series. A clean romance about second chances.
Some relationships are very tricky to navigate, but nothing seems as sticky as an attraction to your ex-husband’s handsome brother. To clarify, Macie met Holt first, but suave and outgoing Knox stole her right from under his brother’s nose.
This author does a fantastic job of portraying the broken parts of Macie and her heart, as she struggles to give her young daughter, Ruby, a family support system, and in spite of the loyalties her child’s grandmother shows towards her ex. There’s a hazy mist of hope whirling throughout Macie’s trials, but man, that woman is as tough as nails and willing to swallow her pride to do right by Ruby.
I was kind of mad at Holt and Macie for trying to hide their true feelings at first, but given the complicated nature of the family dynamics, I could understand. And wowza! Those true feelings were quite explosive, so naturally, trying to hide dynamite doesn’t last for long.
I’ve decided that this author could write the phone book and I would love it. I’m looking forward to guzzling this new small-town Texas series.
Content: mild+ romance (kissing, swoony, implied cheating); mild language

What a sweet book! I loved the characters! I loved how there was the theme of forgiveness while also realizing that just because you forgive someone doesn’t mean you allow them to hurt you again. I loved how this was a second chance of love romance. Holt and Macie are such a sweet couple and I am so glad they got together! This is the first contemporary romance I have read by Heather B. Moore where she wasn’t a co-author and I am definitely looking forward to the other books in this series!
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
When you marry the wrong man, can you correct it by finally marrying his older brother? Macie fell for the smooth talking Prosper brother Knox even though she had met his older brother, Holt, first. A mother’s love is blind and Heidi Prosper can’t help that she doesn’t have all the facts about her second son. Holt and Macie have more than a few obstacles to their love, Knox being only a small part of that. A three year old girl can help overcome all obstacles. I truly enjoyed this book and look forward to more of the Prosper family.
Really cute second chance love story by Heather B. Moore! One Summer Day is a great love story that’s clean but spicy. It has great characters with flaws and heartaches. I like the cowboy town with its small town feel and people. And the ending is very happy!
I received a complimentary copy of the book. All opinions are my own and are expressed voluntarily.
Being the fan of Heather B. Moore that I am, I was so excited to start her newest series, but quickly lost my enthusiasm, and instead turned to disappointment. Talk about keeping it in the family! The whole situation made my skin crawl for reasons I care not to delve into in this review. I know it’s supposed to be sweet and true love and all that but I hated the premise. The only saving grace of this book was sweet little Ruby and the picturesque backdrop of Prosperity Ranch, though I did have my issues with this Texas town and some of its inhabitants.
I was born and raised in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and I know that Prosper, Texas is in North Texas and nowhere near San Antonio, like it is portrayed in the book. I know this is a trivial fact, considering this is a work of fiction, but it really bothered me. There is also “cliche” Texas twang that no Texan I’ve ever known has used in their language and reading it was quite cringy to me. Holt is sweet enough but something about Macie was bothersome to me, and the entire time I’m reading I’m trying to put my finger on why, and never did quite figure it out.
I had such high hopes for this series, but I am sad to say that it was not an enjoyable start for me. The writing itself was top notch and I could see this series holding promise, so I am not giving up just yet, but it is by far my least favorite novel by this author to date.
One Summer Day welcomes readers to Texas and Prosperity Ranch. Small towns, cowboys, and the town’s founding family are the focus of the first book in a brand new series from Heather B. Moore.
Macie may be young but she’s grown up quick, beaten down by life. It’s no wonder when she hangs around Holt, who is everything her ex-husband wasn’t, she’s drawn to his kindness, honorability, and respectfulness.
Responsible to a fault, Holt Prosper sat back and allowed his brother to steal the girl. Now she’s living in his parents’ house with her little girl, and he’s not sure what to do. What happened between her and her ex?
This book is packed with plot lines. Many are resolved some will most likely continue through the entire series. A fresh take on second chance romance, One Summer Day is a delightful and fast read that made me smile and sigh in contentment.
Disclosure statement: I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Talk about awkward! What do you do when you find yourself falling in love with your ex-husband’s brother?? Add other family dynamics and the situation gets even more complicated! Good story development. I enjoyed the characters!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
One Summer Day by Heather B. Moore (4.5 stars)
I’ve got to hand it to Ms. Moore. A scenario of falling in love with your brother’s ex wife/falling in love with your ex husband’s brother takes guts to write. She pulled it off, though!
It was a story with lots of flawed characters and many snap judgements being made; in other words, real life and real people. The vulnerability of the heroine felt sincere. As did the hero’s worries about the ranch and his brother and his whole family. Written with a very real oldest brother complex.
I loved the moments in this book where Holt and Macie learned to know each other’s true character traits. And learned to trust one another. (Their passionate kisses were lovely, as well.)
I also really respected the author’s choice to have Macie’s ex husband, be complex; not evil, just morally weak and struggling to grow up. It wasn’t necessary to make us hate him and I’m glad that the author chose to make him real.
*poor, **ok, ***good, ****very good, *****something special
A sweet, second-chance story. It can be easy to judge people for their mistakes, but we all make them and hope to grow and learn from them. It also takes courage to face up to them. I have to say I was really impressed with how Holt and Macie handled things, and loved seeing them get their HEA.
Clean, well-written and well-paced, I recommend this book.
I received a free copy, and this is an honest review.
I am so excited to have a new series by one of my favorite authors to delve into! This one is set on a ranch in Texas and I just love a good rancher/cowboy lead character. Throw in that Texas charm and yup, hello Holt.
Is it weird that Macie falls in love with her ex-husband’s brother? I think it is. I mean, I think Holt is awesome too, but seriously. Awkward. I just kept thinking the whole time how weird it would be to know your wife slept with your brother. Who is still alive and coming to family dinner. I don’t know. Don’t worry though, I can easily set aside my concern and mostly focus on Holt and Macie who are two great characters deserving of happiness and love.
How could Macie not fall for Holt as she watches him fulfill every hope and wish she had going into a marriage before? Holt is all that and a bag of cookies. Chocolate cookies. I loved how easy it was for Holt to extend kindness, respect and love to both Macie and her daughter. Both Holt and Macie are ready for love and the attraction is definitely there. Hummm yumma I love lots of kissing and I sure got it with this book.
This is a great start to this series and I’m really looking forward to the next book, releasing in March. One Summer Day is on KU if you have that.
Content: mention of affairs, kissing

My thoughts about this book:
• The opening of this story caught my interest right away. I wanted to find out who Macie was and why her marriage to Knox failed. Holt, Macie’s ex-brother-in-law, wanted to know the reason, too.
• Holt was a very kind man. I enjoyed the way he handled children. He could outsmart his niece, Ruby, most of the time. It was fun to see this side of him.
• The dilemma presented in this novel: do you tell all the facts about what caused a failed marriage or do you try to protect others by not telling the unsavory truths? The truths will make you look better, but will they hurt others?
• Moore does an amazing job with her dialogues between her characters.
• The writer’s words painted clear pictures that helped me to visualize the scenes and the emotions of the characters.
• This was a clean read and I appreciate that.
I was given an advance copy of this book. My review was voluntary and my opinions were my own. I highly recommend this Prosperity Ranch romance and I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
I really liked this first book in a new series by one of my all time favorite authors. Macie wants her young daughter Ruby, who’s adorable by the way, to get to know her father’s parents, because they’re the only grandparents the child has since Macie’s mom died. So they fly to Texas to spend the summer at Prosperity Ranch. Macie didn’t know her ex-brother-in-law was still living at the ranch. Afterall, it had been 4 years since she’d last been there. Holt Prosper was even more handsome than she remembered.
Holt Prosper is trying to keep Prosperity Ranch afloat and turning a profit, but it’s hard with younger siblings in college and his brother Knox, Macie’s ex-husband, still irresponsibly chasing the rodeo dream and continuing to ask for ‘loans’. When his former sister-in-law comes to stay for the summer, Holt realizes his feelings for her never went away. He might need to move into his unlivable house before the work is finished.
This was an unusual storyline but I think the author did a wonderful job with it. It’s kind of a second-chance-at-love story since Macie had met Holt years before. Knox seemed to be the kind of guy that enjoys the chase but loses interest soon after he gets the girl. On the other hand, Holt had not forgotten about the girl he’d met years before, and he really cared for Macie and Ruby. I think if Macie hadn’t been at a such a vulnerable point in her life when she met them she would’ve been able to resist Knox’s charms and would have ended up with Holt at the Dirt Dance.
I thought Ruby was adorable and could totally picture her excitement at receiving pink cowgirl boots and not wanting to take them off even at bedtime. I felt for Knox and Holt’s parents, Rex and Heidi. Knowing your grown children aren’t as responsible as they should be is one thing. But to find out they aren’t living the values you strived so hard to teach them is heart-breaking. Especially for Heidi who seemed to wear rose-colored glasses concerning Knox, and didn’t know the reasons for his and Macie’s divorce.
Holt is a wonderful character–respectful, loyal, trustworthy, protective of those he loves, and handsome on top of all that. Macie was a great character too. Sure she’d been irresponsible after her mother died but she tried to make her marriage to Knox work until she realized he didn’t care about her and Ruby, and he wasn’t going to change. After their divorce she did her best to take care of herself and Ruby without help until she no longer could, then she sucked it up and went to Texas determined to do whatever was needed so her daughter could have a relationship with her grandparents. It certainly wasn’t easy to be around her former in-laws but she did it. I can’t wait to read the other books in this new series.
This was a really fun contemporary romance. Holt made a dreamy leading man, and I liked seeing how Macie asserted herself and decided to go for what she wanted. The chemistry was great. This was a little bit edgier than Heather B. Moore’s other contemporary romances (a little bit more swearing and a casual beer) but still clean. I’m excited to read the other books in the series.
I read an ARC provided by the author/publisher. All opinions are my own.
