I loved this book and immediately ordered the next one!
Real characters with expertly written ‘true to life’ thought processes. This book is like sitting down with your cup of tea and chatting with the characters. So like Maeve Binchy who was my favorite writer. Also written/edited expertly – it was such a pleasure to read without mentally crossing out grammar errors which has recently become a hazard of reading today’s books.
Very nice story
I loved the twists and turns and coincidences that brought people together on the tiny island of Roone. After finishing it I found and read 2 more set in the same place with many of the same characters. If Roone were real I’d probably love to live there as well. I’m a fan of Maeve Binchey and Roisin Meaney is a new favourite.
Predictable but an enjoyable summer read. I liked the characters.
Maeve Binchy – move over!
Reminds me some of Jenny Colgan, which is a good thing. Quirky, enjoyable characters living on a small fictional island off the west coast of Ireland. Low key romance, life issues and a touch of magical realism.
I aldo read the second book in the trilogy, “After the Wedding” and liked it. Wish the third book in the trilogy or available in the US on Kindle
Great summer read!
You like Maeve Binchy, you’ll like this book
Loved the characters and life on the island.
Loved this book. Could hardly put it down. Am reading the next one now.
Enjoyed this read !!
I loved this book that takes place on a wonderful little island in Ireland. The characters were all so real I hated for the book to end. I wanted to know more about their lives.
I had a lot of fun reading this series of books and I hope sometime there will be more.
It was a pleasant read, true, in everything but the main character. I liked the language and the feel, the subordinate characters, and even the MC some of the time.
BUT — the main character drove me batty. She moaned about how she was so kind and giving and always thinking of others. She complained that her fiance wasn’t the same. BUT — she put their home up for rent over his objections. She decided, again without his input, that they could stay in a tiny room off her salon above a pub, then was SO hurt when he couldn’t sleep for the noise, and, at her own suggestion, he went to stay with his brother. She decided their sexual relationship didn’t matter for the months she’d rented out the house, too. She expected him to give up his amazing job, that he truly loved, and then moaned because he had the audacity to think she might move to his location instead of him giving up everything for her. Again, she plans it all and demands his compliance, all the while telling herself how sweet and loving she is? No. Sorry. She’s a manipulative, selfish … well, you know.
So yeah. I think the author is worth giving another chance, but this story was annoying.
Just a really nice story
A charming story with wonderful characters set against a backdrop of an idyllic island off the coast of Ireland. Romance and heartbreak are keeping the locals busy as well as the tourists who are also under the spell of the island. Great summer read.
I loved the flow of this story and the realism.
Loved learning about the island of Roone. Ireland books intrigue me, especially since I learned of my Irish heritage loved Nell, also, since my name is Nellie. Great character development/struggle!
A nice happy story that is a very easy read. I have also read the two follow-up books written by the author. They were also good and refreshingly, they were not a formula or rewrite of this first book.
