Boy meets girl, boy wins girl, boy nails girl — boy’s gone by morning. I think for sure it must’ve been a dream because there’s no way a guy could look like that, touch me like that and be so in tune with me, then just disappear leaving me with nothing but a good story to tell my friends. When he walks into my bar three months later, everything I thought I knew and what we’d had disappears in the … had disappears in the blink of an eye and the blinding light of the three-carat diamond on his fiancée’s hand.
It seems what I thought was a dream is now my most complicated reality, and I’ve got absolutely no idea how to fix it.
Or if I even want to.

I love BJ Harvey books! Grab this one!
First I have to say that this is the first book I have read by B.J. Harvey and it will not be the last because I was completely blown away by this story. I mean this story had me yelling at my kindle then swooning over this couple and then angry wondering why things were going the way they were going. But I stuck it out and I am so glad I did because this story is a gem. I will say that if you do have triggers regarding cheating men then know that there is that in this book. But in the end things get better and you’ll understand why things were the way they were.
Millen meets Kenzie and sparks fly between them. When he sees Kenzie he is instantly attracted to her. The two have one night of pleasure and he’s gone in the morning. Kenzie is not sure what happened because sparks were flying between them and she thought he was going to stay around. Fast forward three months later and Millen walks into her bar with a woman on his arm wearing a ring on her ring finger and Kenzie is floored. At first she sees red and wants to give him a piece of her mind but Millen talks to her and says he can explain.
This is where the story starts to pop off and I mean pop off. I wanted to reach in my kindle and knock the eff out of Millen but he reasoning behing everything made sense in the end and I forgave him and was happy with the ending. This is a must read and I hear it is going to be a series so I will be reading the other books.
* A review copy was provided by the author for the Blog Tour *
I have loved BJ Harvey’s Books since I first found her writing. And now she is an automatic read for me. After reading One Shot it still rings true.
I was pretty anxious when I started this book because I was nervous where she was going to take this story. After reading the blurb I knew it was going to touch on a hard limit for me and it did but in an acceptable way. Meaning I understood why it happened once everything was explained. But let me tell you the angst it caused….WOW!! If you love an angst filled romance you don’t want to pass this book by.
This book and characters were so well written, Ms. Harvey had me overlooking an aspect I normally don’t. When an author can do that for a reader, you know it has to be a GREAT book. The flow and pace of this story was spot on and all worked well together. I loved the majority of the characters we meet in this story. There is always the ONE character who I can’t stand….you’ll know who it is once you read this book.
One Shot is the first book in BJ Harvey’s newest Chances Series. It is a complete standalone and is told solely from Kenzie’s POV. I want to believe the other books in this series are going to have interconnecting characters so I think reading this one as soon as it comes out is the best move. There is NO cliffhanger so no reason to wait!!
In this story we follow Kenzie and Millen’s story. Theirs is one of chance meeting. What happens when you meet the person you know you’re meant to be with but families, secrets and loyalties get in the way?? Can Kenzie and Millen find their true HEA?? Read this book to find out.
But be prepared to have your heart taken on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. You will laugh, cry, swoon and definitely want to throw your kindle. But just know you’ll end up with a huge smile on your face in the end.
I would 100% recommend this book to any reader who loves ANGST!!! This was a different side to BJ Harvey’s writing and I am interested to see if she keeps it going. If you like a story that takes hold of you right from the start and doesn’t let go until the very last word, then this is the book you should read!!!!
5 One-Shot stars! A steamy read where girl meets boy and boy meets girl.
Sweet baby Jesus! One Shot by B. J. Harvey is a delicious and addictive book. Every written page was a great bookish pleasure. I couldn’t put it down. I devoured it as a starved bookworm. This book has a smooth combination of angsty and hilarious moments. It is perfection wrapped in a sensual cover. Everything that is in and out of it is perfect. If you want to spend a good time, you should one-clicked now.
This book contains wonderful characters, a great word building and a brilliant plot. B. J. Harvey delivers a compelling story where LOVE gets a new meaning because when you find it, you mustn’t let it go. You fight against everyone and everything that could separate you from your soul mate.
There is nothing wrong when it comes to fight for real love. That is something Kenz and Millen will learn together (especially Kenz).
I love the intense attraction between the main characters. It was explosive, like they couldn’t keep their hands off each other. When they are together, the atmosphere charges with sparkling electricity.
“You’ve won this round, Beautiful, but I’m a persistent man. I will be back to try again.”
Kenz is a woman who knows what she wants and when she met Millen she set the rules which Millen must follow if he wants to get the girl (if you know what I mean) Kenz doesn’t want a one night stand, she deserves better and picking boys are the bar she where she works is not her style. Only Millen will be the sexy exception.
“You’re gonna be the death of me, Kenz. Just when I think I have you figured out, you surprise me.”
Gosh! Millen is just Millen. He is cocky and so lethal, impossibly handsome and loyal. He already has his life “planned” but Kenz will turn his world upside down. She is the only woman who have captured his attention in many ways. His soul recognizes her. His heart beats for her. She is his but things won’t be easy.
“You’re trouble.”
“And you’re such a good boy.”
Kenz and Millen are like magnets. The interaction between them is refreshing. They challenge each other. And fate will challenge them.
“Hope is a bitch. It gives you a sliver of a chance, makes you see things that aren’t there. Hope lets you hallucinate, turns you into a starving fool in the desert falling for that oasis on the horizon.”
This is a stunning book, a beautifully addictive and unique masterpiece that will captivate you from the first pages. I can’t wait to read the following books in the series. I need more Millen and Kenz. (Well to be honest I just need more Millen). Talented authors like B. J. Harvey made me have BIG expectations on men. I highly recommended you this book. Let B. J. Harvey ruin you.
Take a One-Shot. You won’t be disappointed.
“Too much talking, not enough moaning.”

Gahhhhh! Ok…so I read this book AFTER i read Third Strike (the 3rd book in the series) and I already knew what would happen with the plot twist. That didn’t bother me because I am not all that worried about spoilers, if an author can still make me feel that punch to the gut about the twist even though I know how it will end…. the writing of what leads up to that twist is what takes me there…. so to me that says a lot about the author’s ability to tell a story. That was what happened with this book. I already knew what would happen and how it came about, but it didn’t take away from that feeling that someone punched me. I was a bit mad at Millen and Kenzie for how they BOTH treated Drew. I know that he made a few mistakes, but he didn’t do them thinking that he was making mistakes at the time. he had limited knowledge of things when making said mistakes and they both treated him poorly because of their inability to communicate properly with each other and those around them…. but I will get off my soap box about that now. I totally felt this book and thought it was a great story. I am totally looking forward to reading more from this author!
I loved Kenzie and Millen, separately and together.
Kenzie is strong and kick ass
Millen is sexy and tough, but also sweet and caring
Together, they are on fire
Lana is, and always will be a mole…a big fat mole…that’s all I will say about her
This was a typical best friends sister romance it at the heart of it we get a lot more. It was lighter drama for the first half but the author wasn’t pulling any stops when it game to the second half. My heart aches for Ashley and Drew. We can see that they are perfect for each other but it’s too hard with Millen (Who is from book 1 in this series). Add in crazy chicks, forbiddenish Love and heart break in spades this is a book not to miss. I’m sad to see this series end but One Short was the perfect ending for these characters. 4 stars #2OCCJD
Kenzie has an amazing weekend with Millen, not right away mind you, she puts him through a few dates first that way she knows he is serious. After having this wonderful weekend, they part ways and Millen goes home… never to be heard from again. A few months later, after Kenzie has attempted to move on but never forgetting Millen and the spark they had, a childhood enemy comes into the bar to show off her fiancé, who ends up being none other than Millen. For Millen, Kenzie is his one but he is already entangled in a web that is too thick to get out of. With family and moral obligations at war Millen has to figure out what the best course is, will it be Kenzie?
This was a quick entertaining read. The steamy chemistry between Kenzie and Millen burned up the pages. There was drama of epic proportions, some O-M-G moments and a few moments that just made you squirm. There is an aspect of this book that does bother me, but in the end it didn’t really matter. I give this 4 stars and am looking forward to the next in this series.
BJ Harvey is a new to me author and I was so excited to give this book a listen. Stella Bloom and Joe Arden are two for my favorite narrators and they did not disappoint. One Shot is an emotional, sexy, angsty, heartbreaking listen with lots of laughter. When Millen Ross meets Kenzie Sharp the spark is instant. They are both drawn to each other like a moth to a flame. They share a few heated, glorious nights together and then Millen is gone, in the blink of an eye. His abandonment leaves Kenzie, broken and confused and struggling to get over their intense connection. Fast forward 3 months and Millen walks back into Kenzie’s life and up ends her fragile sense of calm. Family secrets, betrayal, lies, deception and obligations create a chasm between Millen and Kenzie. Can they over come the obstacles that stand in the way of their happily ever after? Or will the power of love bring these two star crossed lovers back together? This was a fantastic listen with ALL THE FEELS. I laughed (literally LOL’d), I cried, I was angry and my heart broke for Millen and Kenzie. Plus wonderful secondary characters (Gabby is the best friend we all wish we had) make this a wonderful listen!!
This was totally a page turner. Once I started, I couldn’t put it down. It was so damn addicting!
Kenzie and Millen’s story was one that will stay with me for a while. It’s one of those stories where the hero and the heroine can’t seem to find a way to be together, always having something come between them and their love. What started off as a challenge turned into something serious.
Millen happened to stop into the bar where Kinzie worked and from the moment he locked eyes on her, he knew that he had to have her. She sure gave him a little run for his money though because she wasn’t one of those that was easy to convince into hitting the sack. She comes from a family that was broken because of infidelity and she swore she would never, EVER be a woman to get involved with a married man, or a taken man at that. She definitely was not ever going to be the other woman.
When Kenzie and Millen hit it off and they start a “relationship” she finds herself being ghosted after having the best weekend of her life with Millen. She couldn’t understand why all of a sudden he would disappear and never return her unanswered texts, so she takes it upon herself to remove herself from his life and move forward. It hurt like hell but she’s a strong woman and knows she can move on.
When Millen shows up again to the bar, she has no idea that he would be a taken man. The problem is, was he already taken when she slept with him, was he playing her from the get go?
This is where everything evolves and we start getting answers as to the why’s and how’s. This book, my god this book was so damn good. I was rooting for Kenzie and Millen from the get go because I knew there was something wrong with that picture and I knew that Millen wasn’t a coward and therefore, he would make things right with him and Kenzie. She also was a great, strong heroine and I loved her for being strong and standing up to what she believes and isn’t afraid to go after what she wants.
Wow the obstacles these two face before they get their happily ever after. I enjoyed this book so much I read it in one sitting, I just couldn’t put it down
You can feel their attraction and chemistry with their first meeting. I love how flirty they were.
Kenzie is skeptical to start anything with Millen, she’s done with liars and cheaters.
Things are going well till it goes radio silence, frustrated with his no communication she moves on only to see him walk back into her life with a fiancé.
I like Kenzie and I’m glad she wanted to kick his ass, I was interested to see how this was going to play out.
This was my first read from B.J. Harvey and what a read this one turned out to be! It started off amazing, sizzling with chemistry and completely captivated by Kenzie and Millen. And then the bomb drops and you’re like WHAT.THE.EFF?!
Everything was instant between these two, but they both felt something deeper as they spent more time together. With Millen’s other obligations, he has to leave with the promise of keeping in touch and coming back to her. But as time goes on with no word, Kenzie is left wondering what happened and where things went wrong. And then Millen comes back to town, engaged to Kenzie’s high school nemesis. At that point, I became Anger from the movie Inside Out, I was literally blowing a fuse at the point and just wanted to punch the crap out of Millen. And I was darn sure that his reasons would do nothing to appease me. But despite all of his reasons, more truths started coming to light and I found myself engaged until the very end.
I can’t say that agreed with Millen and Kenzie’s actions in the aftermath of her learning the truth about his engagement. It was crossing the line a bit for me even if Millen had things he was obligated to.
I definitely didn’t love this read, but overall it was an enjoyable and quick read. There is a happy ending, but it’s quite the roller coaster before you get it.
Kenzie is a manager at a Bar, when a very good looking man catches her eye. Kenzie isn’t one to date the customers, but Millan is a hard man for her to resist. So after ” a few games” these two find themselves in bed and quickly in love. Kenzie has no reason to doubt Millan, so she is caught off guard and hurt, when he doesn’t answer her texts, or return the next weekend as promised. The whole thing just reinforced her fear of trust, which developed from her own mother’s infidelity. So instead of pursuing a real relationship, Kenzie goes back to her comfort zone, “Friends with Benefits”, until Millan returns to the bar– a return, that includes a big shock.
After the way everything went down and knowing her personal history, I was surprised Kenzie bought into Millan’s explanation so quickly, and that she would be with him prior to him resolving his situation. I found the ending too abrupt, and left some loose ends, one being that Millan, continued his lies of emission, and once again kept Kenzie waiting. So, in my opinion, HEA ending would have been Kenzie finding a new relationship with a more honest man.
Great read
One Shot is my first book by B.J. Harvey, and it will not be my last. Now for the reason I chose to read this book….the reviews…the bad ones, yep, you read it right. I had to understand why??? Anyway, I really loved this book, loved the writing, loved the characters and loved the story. When you meet someone and you just know you are meant to be with them, but then circumstances get it the way of your HEA, that’s what this book is all about. One Shot contains LOTS of drama, lies, deception and of course very steamy scenes. Looking forward to the next book in this series.
The book started slow for me, but once I was hooked, I couldn’t put it down. I liked Kenzie and Millen. They faced a ton of obstacles, some of which I saw coming. Yet this book still had my heart racing. I wasn’t quite sure how their story would end, but it all came together. I would have liked to have Millen’s POV, just to know what was going through his mind during their ups and downs. Overall I really enjoyed this book and found it to be a satisfying read.
“Sometimes Fate can he a spiteful b!t@h and Destiny can join in on the party to add to the inevitable heartache.”
I enjoyed reading this book by B.J. Harvey. The characters were well developed, there are secondary characters that I hope get their stories told and I was cheering the main characters on all the way through. Well most of the way. At times, he is a little strong in his desire to get his way at the expense of her feelings and emotional stability. I found him extremely selfish at times, yet I understand where he was coming from.
My absolute favorite line (paragraph actually) from this story is:. “Awkward meet Mortifying. Also here are Shame, Embarrassment,…and her friend I’m to Have to Move to the States and Join a Woman-Only Commune with Cats and Unlimited Batteries.”. Hahahaha I’m going to memorize this and use it in a conversation someday.
I recommend this story which is book 1 of a new series.
From the end of the prologue this book had me on the edge of my seat, captivated and anxious. When Kenzie and Millen meet, the power of their attraction is like a current sent straight to the heart. When the universe delivers you the one person that you know is your forever only to have them ripped away and then show up some months later on the arm of their fiancée, what do you do? These characters will have you drawn into their story and biting your nails hoping that fate couldn’t be this cruel. Their story is not only one of love, instant attraction and drama it is a story to teach us how far you will go to honour your family even if it means walking away from the one person who makes you happy. It will show you sometimes the person you vowed never to be just might be what you become to have your one shot at true love. This story is witty, drama filled and steamy, it will have you apprehensive and falling so in love with these characters it will be sad to say goodbye. This is my first book by BJ Harvey but will certainly not be my last.
