Some families we’re born into Some we find for ourselves When Serenity Alston swabbed her cheek for 23andMe, she joked about uncovering some dark ancestral scandal. And meeting these newfound sisters might be the only way to get answers. The … only way to get answers.
The women decide to dig into the mystery together at Serenity’s family cabin in Lake Tahoe. With Reagan navigating romantic politics at work and Lorelei staring down the collapse of her marriage, all three women are converging at a crossroads in their lives. Loved the whole dynamics of the three sisters who recently found out they were related by DNA!
One Perfect Summer: Fantastic writing and dialog. I loved all the characters, the challenges, and surprises that they all went through. Brenda Novak really did an amazing job of telling this story. It could have been a true story. Serenity, Reagan, and Lorelei were such strong characters throughout the story that it really made the story so compelling. They were strangers for their whole lives until they each decided to do DNA testing and it opens a whole can of worms. It brought three strong women together so they could find out together the truth behind the mystery of their lives and to make new connections and friends. I like how they were unsure of each other in the beginning but they came around and became each other’s rock and friends. I like all the twists and turns through the book. Great story!
I totally love this book! I would love to see a short series made of the sisters to find out how thing turn out further down the road! Brenda writes such wonderful books that you feel like you are a part of the story yourself. I have read many, many of her books and not a one disappoints. This one had an ending I was so not expecting! You should really pick it up and then you won’t be able to put it down!
I listened to the audio version of this book. This story of three women who discover through DNA testing that they are half sisters was a glorious telling of how family may not always be what you thought it was and how love and belonging is wonderful no matter where it comes from.
I tried to figure out which woman I liked the most, but all three were pretty great characters and I would love to have any of the three for my friend or sister. Ms. Novak never disappoints with her characters and her plots always carry you along a journey that you wish would never end.
The narration by Erin Bennett was wonderful!
I’ve awaited the release of this book for quite some time, and once it was out, I downloaded it. I listened to the audio version of One Perfect Summer by Brenda Novak. I have been a fan of Ms. Novak for years and love her books, no matter which genre she chooses for her latest story. Whether it’s a romance, small town USA, a thriller or mystery, or in this case, women’s fiction, I’m confident it will be fantastic! One Perfect Summer is another well written book with enthralling characters and an original storyline.
This book follows three sisters who have just found each other. There is a mystery to be solved. The half-sisters set out to find out who their father may have been. Since they established their connection through DNA testing, they have very few clues as to the identity.
I thoroughly enjoyed their journey. It’s a difficult task to develop the stories of three main characters and fully flesh them out. The talented Ms. Novak does this with finesse. I became vested in all three women.
There is a romantic arche in this book, but it is by no means the central focus. It’s a story of three women facing their lives with many unanswered questions where each must face their future and ones that look so different than what they had expected.
Serenity is searching for the clue that would explain how these other two women are related to her. She has an established family and doesn’t want to approach them until she has more information. It is Serenity’s love interest that is the strongest. I enjoyed that aspect of the story and wanted her to find a happy ending!
My first Brenda Novak novel. It definitely won’t be my last. Lots of twists and turns I didn’t see coming.
DNA test results bring together three women that are sisters but don’t know how they came to be. Come along on the journey of discovery and growth that the three sisters find during their summer together. Brenda Novak does an amazing job of telling their story and her descriptions of Lake Tahoe makes the reader want to see the beauty for themselves. I highly recommend this book as a perfect summer read!
A very sweet story. Can we get part 2???
I love the dynamic between the tree sisters. I thought that the story line was fresh and totally current. I was fascinated with the ideas of DNA testing and it convinced me that I never want to have that done. I like that everyone has problems and at the end of the story their problems are still there but they are managable just like real life.
A simple DNA test for research ends up with three half sisters coming together to meet and to figure out the connection between them. Each sister is dealing with personal issues, but in true Brenda Novak fashion, family support is essential and is given freely. I didn’t expect it to end the way it did, but can definitely see Ms. Novak continue this in a series, which I hope she does!
Brenda Novak never disappoints. I loved One Perfect Summer. Brenda Novak brings wonderful characters to life in this book. The sisters bond while dealing with some big issues in each of their personal lives. The situations make you consider how you would react if faced with these issues in your own life. The Hatch brothers need their own book.
One Perfect Summer was another great read by Brenda Novak. Serenity didn’t expect to discover a dark secret when she swabbed her cheek for 23andMe. But she discovered two half sisters that she never knew existed. She starts to question everything about her family. The three sisters decide to spend time together at Serenity’s family cabin in Lake Tahoe. Serenity, Reagan and Lorelei are all facing difficulties in their lives and meeting each other may be what each woman needs at the moment. I really enjoyed reading about these three women who are finding themselves while getting to know each other. I can’t wait to read more by Brenda Novak.
One Perfect Summer by Brenda Novak was a story about family and secrets with a bit of mystery. Serenity decided to join an ancestry site, but the last thing she expected was to find out she has half-sisters. Two of them to be exact. She wants answers and to get know them. So, she decides to invite Regan and Lorelei to her family’s summer home. I loved that we get not only their story as they meet and get to know each other, but also learn about their separate lives and what they are going through. This women’s fiction story was emotional and intriguing.
Happy reading!
Serenity Alston joked about the results she would receive when she sent in her DNA to 23andMe. Little did she know the results would be anything but ordinary. When she finds out she has two half sisters she contacts them and they all agree to met. As they spend the summer together in beautiful Lake Tahoe they become first friends and then sisters. They share everything and some hard decisions are made in each of their lives. This is a heartwarming story about the bonds of sisters. I highly enjoyed reading it and I know you will too. Highly recommend!
I loved this book, doing a DNA test and finding long lost sisters was so enlightening for me and my girls. We are trying to find out who my dad’s biological father is since he was raised by another family who was close to his biological mother. Love reading all books by Brenda Novak!
Brenda Novak out did herself with this book, hope she come out with a sequel
Wow! Blown away. So so good. Not the typical story of half siblings finding each other! This one had an interesting sibling connection that I did not expect at all. I enjoyed all three sisters getting to know each other and learning their stories.
Brenda Novak writes the *best* books – I always fall in love with her characters and want the story to continue into other books. I know this was a one-off book, but still, I would love to learn more about Finn and his brothers. As it is, following the sisters was amazing. And oh, the ending, WOW! I did NOT expect that. I was trying to figure out what had happened all throughout the book, but I never thought of this. But I’m glad the sisters found each other, even though they’re not real, there has to be situations like this all over the place. This book is definitely worth reading, and will take your mind off whatever else troubles you during these weird and troubling times in this world. Thank you, Brenda!
One Perfect Summer by Brenda Novak has Serenity Alston surprised by the results she received after submitting a DNA test to 23andMe. She learns that she has two half-sisters. The three women will be spending the summer together in Tahoe. It will give the three women a chance to get to know each other and try to identify their common link. Each woman is going through a rough patch. Serenity just finished testifying at her husband’s trial after turning him in to the police. Lorelei discovered her husband cheated on her with someone unexpected. Reagan had a one-night stand with someone from work and cannot face returning to her job. Each woman will need to overcome their issues before moving forward. One Perfect Summer is a light read that touches on an interesting topic. Imagine taking a DNA test and finding out you have two siblings. I liked that the three women who were at an intersection in their lives. It was touching to see them go from strangers to true sisters. The point-of-view switches between the three sisters which can be confusing in the beginning until you get used to each ladies’ voice. It does mean that there is a repetition of information. It does, though, allow us to understand what each woman is feeling and thinking. I wanted to find out how the three women were related and came to be separated. When the solution was revealed, I was surprised because it came out of left field. I liked Lorelei’s daughter, Lucy and how she helped an injured man. I did find the pacing a little sluggish and there is foul language (too much) in this book. I was happy with the epilogue that showed the women rallying around Reagan for an important event. One Perfect Summer is a sweet story about sisterly bonds, second chances, overcoming the past, finding love, and family.
One Perfect Summer is definitely one of my favorite books by the amazing Brenda Novak. All three sisters had something going on in their lives that kept me interested from the very beginning. I love how each sister had their own point of view. I didn’t want it to end
