On paper, Chris Brennan looks perfect. He’s applying for a job as a high school government teacher, he’s ready to step in as an assistant baseball coach, and his references are impeccable.
But everything about Chris Brennan is a lie.
Susan Sematov is proud of her son Raz, a high school pitcher so athletically talented that he’s being recruited for a full-ride scholarship to a Division I college, with a future in major-league baseball. But Raz’s father died only a few months ago, leaving her son in a vulnerable place where any new father figure might influence him for good, or evil.
Heather Larkin is a struggling single mother who lives for her son Jordan’s baseball games. But Jordan is shy, and Heather fears he is being lured down a dark path by one of his teammates, a young man from an affluent family whose fun-loving manner might possibly conceal his violent plans.
Mindy Kostis succumbs to the pressure of being a surgeon’s wife by filling her days with social events and too many gin and tonics. But she doesn’t know that her husband and her son, Evan, are keeping secrets from her – secrets that might destroy all of them.
At the center of all of them is Chris Brennan. Why is he there? What does he want? And what is he willing to do to get it?

This book was a great read! I really enjoyed the characters and the author kept you wondering. It had a twist for sure.
Good book but al little unrealistic at times.
It’s been awhile since I read a book that I couldn’t put down. This was unputdownable!
I didn’t care for this book. I have always enjoyed reading Lisa’s books, but not this one
A bit too unbelievable on the action side but well balanced on the personal side. Who knows? Maybe our government is thwarting potential attacks like this?
I have loved all of her books.
Scottoline is predictably intriguing, with great characters. Plots are always packed with unexpected surprises. One of my very favorite authors. She never disappoints..her work captures me from start to finish…always wanting another!
There were so many twists and turns to the plot
Story relevant to today’s news
It kept me reading every day. It was good. I liked it very much. It kept me trying to figure out who was fault.
Meh
I loved this book. At first I was doing all kinds of guessing games about the main character but as I read on it got really involved. I loved the twist. I didn’t see it coming!
Enjoyed this book!
I didn’t finish it
Loved the twist. Scottoline is so impressive
Wonderful book. Author gets the reader engaged up until the end
this book is hard to put down. The plot twists in unexpected ways, keeping you guessing. As with other Scottoline books you are drawn in by the characters. Highly recommended.
This book is full of surprises, right up to the ending. An excellent read!
I liked the surprise in this book and the “parts” and how it was separated and presented to the reader. I loved the part in the acknowledgements where she was also talking to me (people like me), and how the author can relate, b/c she’s one of those people too;-) This was my first book by this author and i was happy to find she has written many, many more and that our local library, which no offense, NEVER has a lot of books, had like a whole row of hers, so that’s wonderful! It was a very mild thriller, with a touch of romance, which I wasn’t expecting, and not really wanting, but that I thought was kind actually kind of nice.
Not as wonderful as usual. The characters and story were a little too predictable. Sorry.
Excellent!! So many twists…
